  1. 300 total? Or just the rod? I'd suggest a Zodias rod. I bought one in June and now I have three! They are sensitive, light and quickly becoming my favorite rods. I haven't used a Casitas but the few people I know say they are good work horse reels.
  2. I regularly drop shot with my medium powered spinning. No problems no need to get a ML. I'd go with the baitcaster.
  3. Weightless Texas rigged worms, if it is shallow enough wade in to give you some extra distance. Or use a heavier weight for your jig or bullet weight to get the extra distance.
  4. Weightless zoom finesse worm, fluke and heavy drop shot.
  5. Google, searching for bass related info.
  6. I just want object the comment you should get a Daiwa or Shimano. I am a Shimano fan, but I have three Carbonlite/PQ combos. The setups are rock solid, balance well and use them in my rotation. I agree you shouldn't go cheap if you are learning to use baitcasters but when you say cheap, don't get a 20 dollar combo. It will turn you off on baitcasters quickly, it will frustrate you as you will lose confidence while picking out your birds nest. Baitcasters in my opinion really increase your versatility and I find I am more accurate with them. They are better for heavy line and lures when needed.
  7. Unfortunately don't have 893c I have the 894c. I have that paired with a Curado E7, still not great balance, but might balance better on a lighter rod. Maybe someone can chime in on their thoughts.
  8. What type of weightless plastics? Senkos would be fine. i'd stick with the 853C if you are getting a Curafo 70. If you're getting the 893C id get a standard sized reel to help balance, if that matters.
  9. I use 10lbs P line copolymer. I also use 30 lb braid with a leader.
  10. That's great, but I still love fishing with my combos.
  11. So I'm done and ready for the opener tomorrow. Here are my 2016 addition to the family. 3 Zodias rods, a 7' Medium Glass, 6'10 ML and 6'10 Medium. for reels bought a Metanium XG '13, Metanium HG '13, Curado 200I HG, Curado 70 XG, Core 100 MG and Chronarch E5/E6/E7.
  12. So I decided I'll just use the 70 XG that I bought earlier on the Medium Light. I was going to pull the trigger on another Metanium but they had a core 100 mg in the corner all by itself on clearance. Felt bad for it like an older puppy that gets ignored, so I picked it up instead. ? Will put that on my Medium Zodias.
  13. I'm torn between getting a Curado 70 or get my first Aldebaran. It is going to be paired with either ML or Medium fast. I was going to use it for drop shot, small jigs and plastics. May use it for small cranks. Which reel would you choose? All baits range from 3/16 oz to 3/8 oz
  14. Important thing is you gotta love your gear or it will not get used. Having said that and I know I'm late. I would've steered you towards the Zodias rod. In my opinion it is the best rod I've used in that price range. Maybe just keep it under your hat when you need another combo. Have fun with your new rod.
  15. What I would recommend. Zodias just has the it factor in that price range.
  16. I really think you should just buy it. If you don't like it, sell it for 150. Done.
  17. Your setup can be used for everything. A medium fast rod is a great all around rod. I would even use it for crank baits in a pinch. Welcome to the addiction.
  18. Yeah I saw that, I winced. I'll never buy it at that price. In fact I wouldn't buy any of the 50Es even at the average sell price lately. I'd rather just buy the Curado 70s.
  19. It is a misconception that it is a finesse reel. The only thing you may have a problem is line capacity. I've used it for pitching in heavy cover, no issues. It is just like the 200 size just less line capacity.
  20. If they are the Gen 1, I'd get it. If it's the red one that is getting phased out, I'd say no and save your money for a Zodias.
  21. Versatile rod, can be used for bottom contact to top water.
  22. I would agree about price if I wasn't living in Canada. The GLX in my opinion is a great rod and loving them. Not sure why they don't get the love.
  23. old Crucials with cork were awesome.
