  1. I saw these, I never heard of them before. What would you compare them to within the Shimano level? (IE Citica, Casita..etc) I'm going to say go for the Cardiff, of course you may not like that because it's a round reel. I had one before and it was a good reel. I've been regretting selling off my Cardiff and Calcutta 200s.
  2. I owned an older version. It was rock solid and a smooth reel. The downside for me was the form factor. It just didn't palm as well as the Shimano reels I had. It just felt giant in my hands.
  3. I've never had a desire to get one, I'm sure they work fine. Everyone gets a lemon now and then. I grew up with Shimano and have stayed with Shimano with most of my reels. I ventured a few times but I find myself always picking up a Shimano.
  4. The Eagle I own is a 2pc rod I use as a trunk or take on plane rod. Sensitivity wasn't great, but it was good enough. Of course I've only tested it on smaller salt water game fish. I'd say if you are using it for moving baits you prob can get away with it. It balanced well with my Curado 70 XG. The rod is the 6'6" medium fast.
  5. Just placed my order at Digitaka, first time ordering from them. I got the regular MGL. Of course in my excitement I accidentally used and old shipped to address. I sent them a message to fix it, hopefully they catch it before they send it! Are they responsive usually?
  6. Thanks all, you guys tipped the scale. I'm ordering one from JLS. I have two met 13 and love them, but all this talk about the MGL being better makes it hard to believe there is better! DC reel can wait later. Ha I'd be kicked out to the shed. ? I'm also buying a nrx but waiting to get a deal on a 852C. Just missed one! Want to put the mgl on it.
  7. So I was about to pull the trigger on a MGL this morning but I hesitated after I thought I made up my mind. For the past 3 weeks I've been trying to weigh the pros and cons and if I really do need a DC reel. I mean the advantages I've seen and I've seen the advantages on casting distance done by a reputable youtuber, but does that extra 10-15 feet really worth 120 bucks more? I'd like to get everyone's opinion before I do it! The main reason I probably am so hesitant is this is probably the last big purchase my significant other will allow for 2017! Especially after I bought a Conquest 100 not long ago.
  8. Congrats! Way to keep at it!
  9. 12poundbass is right, don't go cheaper or go with anything that isn't mainstream. Like I mean don't go buy a reel made by X manufacturer that goes with a 49 dollar combo. I did this and it put me off on baitcasters for years. I gave it a shot again but using a bit higher end, it was night and day. Don't go to cheap on the reel! I would also start off with mono, not floro or braid. Go buy a big spool of Big Game, so when you back lash you don't lose out on the expensive line! If you do go floro, do not cheapen out on that either.
  10. Berkley Big Game is my primary line of choice for mono. I'll buy Siege or XT if they go on sale.
  11. Thanks for the tips and yeah I noticed not much is said about the 854C. I just think I'll be using it much! The 852C was the one I really wanted!
  12. Great! But Sounds like you'll be getting even more anxious for the season to start.
  13. All you NRX 854C owners, what do you guys use this for? I wasn't planning on getting a heavy rod for my first NRX since I already have two GLX 4 power rods (894 and 854) and I find I don't use to many rods in this power range. However this guy is giving me a good deal, I was originally interested in the 852C he had, unfortunately he sold it. Especially you northern fisherman if you own one. What do you guys use it for and how often, will I use it more often because it's a NRX? (I use my GLX 854C as my pitching and jig/worm, I use the 894 for deeper water jigs/worm.)
  14. At that level I've been satisfied with the BPS Carbonlite and Veritas. I've fished a Mojo Bass before, I personally didn't like it but that was the last generation. Don't have experience with the other sticks.
  15. Wow nice, that looks great!
  16. You can turn in whatever reel you like it doesn't matter the quality. The discount is based on the price of the reel you want to buy. I can't remember, but it's like 100 dollar reel 10 off..etc up to a certain point 500 = 100 off?
  17. Personally I love the 70, this thing rocks. I can pitch, cast, ...etc with such ease. Although I'm biased the other way and like Shimanos. Like others have stated though, do what you really want, if you don't you will regret it and sell for a lower price down the road. Or thinking out of the box, instead maybe return, wait for spring classic. Turn in an old reel and get a super high end reel during the reel trade in offer.
  18. I'd say it's a toss up, go with either. Normally it's a no brainer and say get a crank bait rod, but because of your lake and region you would need both. If I had to make a decision I'd go with the flipping and pitching and use the spinning rod as a cb rod for now.
  19. Paloma knot is the easiest knot in the fishing world. Like river bass bass showed you, maybe using a specialized hook is the answer.
  20. IMO I'd go with the Calais at that price, because you can buy a a Citica easily down the road. I don't see a Calais go that low often.
  21. That looks good, great job.
  22. I use a ST Croix Avid 6'6" Medium Fast, I use it for top water (buzzbaits), spinnerbaits and swim jigs.
  23. I'd pay 60-80. I'd rather pay for a used I series for a few bucks more. Don't get me wrong they are still good solid reels, but like another poster they are harder to palm.
