  1. The specs definitely is a light lure rod. If you aren't going to go that light, I'd definitely sell it. I'd use that for drop shot and small spinners.
  2. I really don't care for Amazon reviews. As for Shakespeare, nothing is wrong with them. They can catch fish like any other rod, if you like'm go ahead and use them. Personally after buying my first Veritas at 40 dollars, it opened the door for me and haven't looked back. The Veritas was so light and way more sensitive for plastics, I was like WOW. This is what I was missing. So I can't see myself going back to Shakespeare, Ugly Stiks..etc unless I need an a beater rod for cat fish or carp. That is rare though as I spend most of my time bass fishing.
  3. Hey Icemonkey...good to see another tortured soul, having to wait for bass season to open up over 3 months from now. There should be lots of places to choose in the GTA to see a NRX. The one that gets the most attention is Pro J's. They carry a lot of brands and they carry a good inventory of G Loomis and Megabass I hear. I haven't been there myself. I live in Guelph, so I don't go to the city much. Natural Sports (Kitchener) carries them but they don't always have a good selection of Loomis rods to check out. It would be hit or miss, Hamilton's Fishing World usually carries a decent selection of Dobyns, G Loomis and St. Croix. Call ahead of time and ask if they have any available in store. My vote would be to get the MGL HG or XG from Japan and then get a NRX. I own the MGL and it's just unbelievable, that is all I have to say. I haven't caught a fish on it yet, I've only just tested it with a practice weight and thrown it on the local rivers using a Mepps, still too cold to catch anything but casting and retrieving is just a pleasure.
  4. What I'm trying to say is the danger of using a heavier rated line vs the rods recommendation. If you have 50 lb test on a ml/xf and you get snagged on a tree, don't use the rod to try and free it with your rod. Use the line! Of course I hope no one uses 50 lb braid on a light stick, I just wanted to make my point clear. Using line that is heavier than the rod rating.
  5. Yes that is what I use in general too (braid). Please note though when you have snag DO NOT use the rod to snap the line. You're asking for trouble. Use the line to snap a snag. That is the main thing about using higher rated lines, in general I don't even do that on light line either. A rod is usually more valuable than Line.?
  6. Ha I almost walked out with one too from CT but changed my mind.
  7. I'm about to pull the trigger on a pond hopping combo for me and sometimes my wife. I was going to buy a 843C but I noticed they have a 844C, what I was curious about is that the range on the 844C was 1/4 oz to 1 oz while the 843C was 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz. It threw me off, because I was thinking, wouldn't the bigger range make it a better all around rod? Does anyone own both or fish them both? All I know other than the power difference that the 844C was stiffer. Is it too stiff for the lower range? My wife or I would probably be fishing baits around 3/8 oz to 1/2 oz most of the time. If someone can provide me their insight it would be greatly appreciated!
  8. At that price that is a good deal. It will serve you well as a work horse rod.
  9. Previous version, I own one and like using it for 1/2 oz, general lots didn't like the previous version. For me I don't see an issue. They are great rods still.
  10. I went to bps Toronto Spring Classic, loaded up on Rage Tail menace (6 packs), rage crawls (3 packs), rage chunks (2 packs), zoom chunks 1pk, some Berkeley jigs round head (4 packs, spinning rod sock, trokar 5/0 flipping hook, 1/2 oz tungsten, mustard snaps, 2 kvd 1/2 oz swim jigs, a bps hat and hook pin for my boy, some fudge and a good ole time with my boy. 160 Canadian.
  11. Wow nice!
  12. Stradic, my favourite lines.
  13. I agree with fishballer. What are you using it for?
  14. Bootytrain has one, maybe he'll post or maybe send a pm. From the sounds of it, it is a good reel.
  15. You might be able to find the parts if you look. I also would like to know how far you pushed it to the point of needing all new gears. I have two of them and will never let them go! I may have to stock spare parts......
  16. Actually I'd recommend getting the close out on the CI4+ Chronarch for 199. If you can swing it, otherwise see my previous post. ?
  17. I own the previous version. Great reel, buy it and put the rest of the savings on more tackle. ? Buy the current version in a couple years for the same price when they release a newer one.
  18. They fixed the TWing problem awhile ago, so you shouldn't have a problem. In my opinion just flip a coin.
  19. Good luck brother bass fisherman. I'm doing something the same somewhat. I promised myself to not buy "new in the market lures". I went through all my tackle last week and many unopened packages that I realize I probably will never use. What my plan is from now on is to focus my spending on the tackle I will use daily and not fall for the new shiny things. ?
  20. Chronarch MGL, it is already released. ?
  21. That's the Stradic, we are talking about Chronarch.
  22. Pad crashers are good I have a couple in my box. When they don't chase my LT frogs, I will use a pad crasher.
  23. Get your money back and get the CT from where I said to get it. It's good deal unless BPS is selling it that low?
