  1. Thanks for the input guys, but looks like I lost out by not nabbing them on Friday. They are now all gone. Both sold over the weekend! Dang it.
  2. My two are curly tailed grubs and inline spinners. I catch multispecies with both.
  3. What drives me away from expensive jerkbaits and swimbaits aren't because they aren't "worth it", it's because of the waters you and I would be fishing. Pike eats, destroys many of my baits. That is the number 1 issue I won't get a 110.
  4. Definitely as a beginner use 40lb test and do what WRB recommends regarding tape. Further use a 3/8 practice weight to practice. It is possible to use 20lb test on a baitcaster but not the best idea for a beginner. I only put this light of line on reels that can handle it. Like a Curado 50E/Chronarch 50E/ Chronarch 50MG..etc. Further and this isn't because I'm knocking Kastking, but in my opinion you should've stuck with a tried and true platform. You could've gotten a used Citica, Tatula, PQ etc... for cheap. When I started to learn as a newbie years ago with BCs, I just bought a cheapo store bought platform, I kept backlashing and backlashing and it turned me off from using baitcasters. This was until I actually bought my first tried and true BC. I haven't looked back since. Kastking it seems free spools easy and like I said I've seen even a veteran with BCs get a serious backlash if they aren't paying attention, it definitely seems not newb friendly.
  5. So I can get a super deal on the NRX, this would be my first. (40% off) the blue one is being phased out.. I'm wondering about what can I use it for? I also want to know if it will be a disappointment if I get it as my first. My plan was the MBR 842 but I'd have to pay full price, same for the 893c. The guy at the shop says he never stocks those. The 853 and 854 are his best sellers. I have the glx version and didn't want to get a redundant rod yet. ? I also can nab the IMX 803c and other IMX at 20-30% off and all the mossybacks are getting clearanced too. Same discount. Worth getting any of those?
  6. I've seen another guy who isn't a newb at bc, have the same issue. The only other advice is the spool tension knob. When casting just do a nice easy toss, maybe start a side arm motion. Do not swing hard, let the rod do the work.
  7. Nice, I love my Shimano 50 size reels. Finding those are rare, by chance did you pick that up from kijiji? I was eyeing it, but didn't pull the trigger. I've been battling, if so..thanks! You helped me. I'm surprised you picked up Shimano, I thought you were a Daiwa Fan? How is the Kast King working out for you?
  8. Feel the same, but I kept the Clarus and Sellus CB rods. They weren't half bad.
  9. Well in my opinion, Shimano couldn't get the Compre right before. It felt so awkward, it would be nice if they did it right! Like they did with the Zodias.
  10. Uniknot is a staple knot that you can apply everything fishing and technically a knot that you can use for everything from spooling line on a reel to connecting a leader.
  11. For my top water and frog rods, I really don't pay top dollar because sensitivity isn't really needed. (use a Veritas 7'3" MH/F for frogs, Veritas MH is more like a H or a Crucial MH/XF 7'2") However, since you are using it for a Carolina rig, I would suggest getting a Heavy Fast Shimano Zodias. They are great rods, the best thing about the Zodias rods is that they all have an all around taper. Of course if warranty is an issue for you (1 yr for Shimano) then I'd pick a St. Croix Avid H/F. 7' would be the minimum length. Warranty isn't issue for me because if it doesn't fail within the year, then it's normally not a manufacturer defect.
  12. Hey let me know if the SV really makes a huge difference with certain applications. Specifically skipping...I'm pondering grabbing a Daiwa just for that. I saw a video that this woman claims she's just the average fisherman and it showed her skipping like a pro with the new Tatula SV! That Chronarch looks to be in supreme condition!
  13. Seeing your reel type, that is also going to hinder you. A BPS Pro Qualifier, Lews Speed Spool, Shimano Casitas or Daiwa Tatula will probably do better in casting lighter lures. The Bionic Blade in my opinion (experience) couldn't handle the lighter lures, even if the rod was in the range. Of course this is the older Bionic Blade I used (6 years ago). If you want to do lighter lures and stay with a lower budget, I'd stick to a spinning setup.
  14. He's got it! Stay within the lure range of the rod you are using, in general the sweet spot is the middle of the lure range. Also NEW2BC4BASS has given good advice too!
  15. Works fine just apply the KVD l&l. I've used it as mainline before, definitely I'd use that line for heavy cover, stumps docks...etc.
  16. This but I'd be using 30lb braid with a leader from 8 to 14lb.
  17. You did good, no matter what you say or do they will never change. I've been cut off before like that, the last time was I was on a school of large mouth bass. Another angler in a canoe saw me catch 3 fish in a row, they then decided to row over the area I was fishing and throw their line. I was annoyed, I just shook my head and went to another spot. They didn't catch a single bass, the best part. I usually just go away when things like that happen, not worth the effort.
  18. The Rattlin raps will use like any other lipless crank. Yo yo or ripping or even a standard retrieve. Scatter rap I'd prob use in more open water as I would think if I fished it like a square bill through a stump field might be an issue with snags.
  19. Here's my Walmart haul. I went back today and picked up more. That I didn't need, but I convinced myself I needed more backup.
  20. I played with one when a local Pro brought one in. He also had it paired with the new Tatula SV. It was a pretty looking combo, felt good paired with each other. I will probably pick up this new Tatula eventually because of all the hype on ease of skipping. After I pick up another MGL XG, Scorpion DC and Alde. So many to get!
  21. In Canada i can get them for 650 which is super high. ? Ive been waiting used or sales up here. Hard to find. Paying the duty doesn't make it worth it at this time.
  22. Have fun with the rod if you get it! I know I did and still do, I do still want to get my first NRX. I have been waiting for a NRX 842C used or get a NRX 893C. Everytime they go up, some one gobbles them up here locally.
  23. Basically the 3 powered I use for 3/8 oz and trailer for the 4 power I use 1/2 oz. I tend to fish 3/8 oz most of the time, so my 853C gets the nod most of the time. 854C if you use the 1/2 oz more. If you like longer rods get the 893 or 894C. For me I use the longer ones for deeper water. Same weights.
