  1. So I just added the following: Crucial Spinning 6'8" ML/XF - Stradic 1000 FJ (Thanks to DarrenM LOL) Compre 7'2" Medium/F - Daiwa Lexa 100 7.1.1 Crucial 7'2" MH/XF - ? Either putting a Curado or Citica on it. Yet to do decide.
  2. I can throw farther with my BC's than Spinning. That is even though I learned last season how to throw a bc. It could just be technique and how good my spinning reels are compared to my BCs though. Normally I don't buy high end spinning reels buy cheapies from retail stores. I usually buy mid tier BCs so that could be the biggest reasons why. That could be part of the difference, also like Darren says once you get more comfortable throwing a BC (Free spool) I'm sure you will get equal or further.
  3. I own a variety of rods. -> Shimano, Abu Garcia, St Croix, Okuma, BPS and Quantum. Bottom line, just get one you like and feel.
  4. I've been fishing in general since I was a kid (5). I was accustomed to fishing Saltwater more than Freshwater. I just started getting serious into LMB/SMB fishing last year. Overall been fishing a lot over my life, just now that I'm land locked (Freshwater) is really my only option and now I love it! I never thought catching such small fish would be this fun. (Comparable to the Pacific/Atlantic)
  5. So how good of a deal is this? I perused the Spring Classic Flyer for (Ontario, Canada) and noticed the Lexa 100 is on sale for 109.99 and with a reel trade in it would be 20 off further.
  6. Ah yes that is true...Do you make trips down to BPS from Sudbury? Yeah you are right, should focus and be patient. I just think I'm suffering from withdrawal. (haven't bought anything since end of January.
  7. So I've saved up 600 bucks and am not sure what to do. Here is my issue. I want to get 2 rods at the very least - ML Rod for finesse fishing plus my lightest power is M (6 Casting and 1 Spinning) and figured it's time I need (want lol) to get at least 1 or two in that range to fill my rotation. The other I'm in the market for is a deep cranking rod (7'6") at the very least. Also would like to get another Medium 7' F rod as I like the 7’ more than my 6’6” M/Fs I have (AVID). Here is what is killing me. Go new route and take advantage of the St. Croix Promotion – so lets say I buy a ML/F 6’9” – Roughly 200 and then buy the 7’8” big cranker (Mojo) which would get me the two rods. I want and then get the Rage Rod in 7’1” Medium/F. – Lets say after the crazy taxes here in Ontario it would be 400 bucks. This would leave me with 200 bucks to buy three reels. I could get right now another prolite for 40 and if I take advantage of the BPS reel trade in (this weekend) I will have to pay 75 (Canada some reason still hasn’t changed on prices, especially now they have no excuse on the exchange rate in US.) Or I could scour and look for deals. I usually like to buy better reels than rods (It seems my mind is slightly changing). I also love with St. Croix rods, although I haven’t used a Rage rod yet. Buy good deal rods – Used – I could be patient and wait for good deals on used rods and reels on BR or Kijiji (Like Craigslist) or sales. Probably find everything I want for half the price, but it might take forever, but I’d probably could save 200 bucks if I went that route for other things. I guess the problem is the monkey!! MONKEY is telling me TO GET IT NOW!! Would it be better to buy new? or just keep being patient?
  8. Wow I'm green with ***. I wish I could afford all of that! Nice setups! Really nothing to write home about for me. Bought a BPS Pro Q Tournament Combo 7' M/F with a PQ Tournament 6.4.1 reel. It was on sale for 79.99 so I said what the heck. I plan on upgrading the bearings on this reel, it would be my guinea pig for future upgrade projects (Would be my first). Not "new" combos, but I also bought two reels (BPS Extreme 5.3.1 and Prolite). I put the Extreme on my 6'6" Clarus Cranking Stick M/MF and the Prolite on my Shimano VROD 7' M/F.
  9. I don't see any disadvantages really. They are good reels, I have a mix of them among my Shimanos. They don't take a back seat "only", I use them as part of my frontline arsenal. (Extreme - Crankbait, PQ - Frogging, Prolite - Small Plastics).
  10. I go where the structure is - Visible is my preference (Vegetation, trees, stumps, rocks..etc..etc..) I don't dislike deep water or finesse fishing I'd like to try, but I am a product of my environment at my local lakes.
  11. Thanks for asking the question, I am coming into some cash (finally) and need two-3 more (ML, M/F or M/XF, MH/M) rods/reels to be fully prepared this season. (Technically not need, it's want LOL) I am hearing great things about the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rods, I'm going to have to check them out.
  12. x2 has them all covered right there.
  13. I would look at this thread to give you an idea on what rods you should be getting as you start building your arsenal. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/114246-perfect-arsenal/
  14. I'd say either add a 7' MH next, but yeah you have a good start in your arsenal.
  15. Welcome to the forums, totally agree this is an awesome site with very knowledgeable members who will definitely help expanding your knowledge!
  16. Welcome to the forum.
  17. I have a spinning version of the Tourney Special (1pc), they aren't that bad and I like using it with reaction baits (small cranks, flukes..) like Blueebasser says, moving baits wouldn't be bad to use them for. Or you could use them as your insta-bank fish moments. Personally I'd drive back, I usually go to my BPS about every month or two, they have a good return policy on their own products. So usually you can go over the period, just explain what happened. My BPS is about 1 hour and half drive.
  18. 1. 7' MH/F - Jigs, Plastics, Spinnerbaits..etc 2. 7' Medium/F - Treble Hooks and other lighter lures/baits 3. 6' 1/2 - 7' Spinning for weightless and very light baits.
  19. I have caught a 5' ft blue shark, weighed around 60lbs. Also caught a skate, didnt getthe weight butthe wing span was around 48".
  20. I was planning on throwing more crankbaits this season as learning to use the dropshot more.
  21. Braid is usually recommended, but not necessarily required. I saw a guy pull up a 6lb bass out of slop using 12lb mono on his spinning setup. Which I haven't even done yet my PB is 3lb range. Never broke the 4lb range, of course 4lbs up here in Ontario, Canada is good in most parts...so 6lbs is pretty d**n great. I was pretty envious as I was fishing in the same area with the same exact frog! Anyway, you just have to be more careful and patient I would think.
  22. Definitely would advise trying a frog over the weeds. I'd also second trying to the island and rock crops. Have you tried using jigs? That may eliminate most of the dinks and look for a bigger bite.
