  1. Nice! I'm contemplating on getting that one.
  2. Hey aren't you the Quantum junkie? I think you are just mad that no one likes them junkie reels! Just kidding.
  3. Centrifugal as others stated, set it and forget it.
  4. Thanks for the update, I'll probably grab one when on sale again. ****Moderator Edit: Start a new thread for rod questions.
  5. It's fun to watch, I had a bass last season totally miss..but why it was so memorable was that this bass (looked like around 3-4lbs). Jumped out of the heavy mat and was so eager he totally flew out of the vegetation about a foot over and hurdled my frog. The most athletic largie I've ever seen, especially to come out like that in a heavy matted cover. Wish I caught it on camera. Anyway, I always do the set the hook phrase on topwater, but there are times when you just know they got it good and I won't wait the (2-3 seconds or finish my phrase "Set the Hook"). Maybe "when you know it" just set it.
  6. I didn't realize when I voted I could vote more than 1, I would've also voted BPS. Anyway, I voted Shimano - I own 4 200s (B, E, G) Curados, (G) 3 Citicas, 1 Chronarch 50E, 1 Curado 50E, 2 Chronarch 50 MG, 1 Stradic 1000 FJ. However, I do own a few BPS reels 1 PQ and 1 PQT, 1 Extreme, and Prolite. I also own 2 Daiwa Lexa 100s, 2 Abu Spinning and a Quantum Energy PT. The Shimanos see most of the days fishing as well as the BPS reels.
  7. Capt Bob, that you? Did you hack Hootie's account?
  8. Out of the three in normal circumstances (If the Revo S wasn't suspect), I'd pick the Revo S. Having said that I have no experience with any of these reels either. I am only going by reputation and popular consensus. Since it is suspect, I think the Accurist should be the way to go. I believe a couple people have owned one on board, the one that comes up is Darren M. Maybe send him a PM and ask him if the Accurist would be a good reel to learn from. The only Quantum I owned ever is the Energy PT, very solid reel and would be a good one to learn from.
  9. So you liking the Bionic reel then? How does it compare with a PQ, that is assuming you have one. I do agree that the reels get smoother when you start paying in general the 100+ range, my most expensive reels are Chronarchs. So I don't have much experience above that, but one day I will take that jump and try a core or maybe buy the new Shimano offering if the rumors are true. You can still find bargains for higher quality reels if you can be patient at the price you can afford. However, it is really hard to do so (be patient)! That PQ will be a workhorse for you.
  10. x2 a few of these posts could be interpreted the wrong way.
  11. I'd 2nd the Compre honestly. Own 2 of them and a 1 Veritas. Both imo are about the same level with the exception that I find the Compre a bit more sensitive than my Veritas. I do own a Clarus cranking rod, it is a solid rod so though if you can't shell out the extra 20, it is a decent choice.
  12. Just bought 3 Bomber Square Bills, 1 Robo Worm 4 1/2" Aaron's Magic Green, SK Super Fluke Houdini, SK Super Fluke White Ice and my first package of SK 1/4 Tungsten bullet weights. But I have to now buy another River 2 Sea Spinnerbait in White/Cht as a big pike took off with it today. He must've been in the 30-40" range, I just threw out my remaining Berkley Vanish Floro because I used it as a leader and the knot slipped. That is it for me, can't handle it anymore. Biggest regret on paying for the crap. I have had no issues with P Line or Mono leaders ever. 2nd time for me the knot slipped, first time thought it was me, this time it can't be coincidence. Another DON'T BUY THIS!
  13. I've bought Shimano products on sale more at local shops. Of course I look more locally because to buy stuff on sale online to be shipped to Canada isn't worth while some times! That would be another avenue.
  14. HA man that is awesome!
  15. All I k now is I'll be trying to take advantage of the clearances that will happen!
  16. Two weekends ago was Pike opener, I decided I needed to go fishing as I needed to get my fix until bass opener which is June 22nd, 2013. Anyway, after spending a couple of hours I decided to go home, when I came around the corner a guy was all startled while he was stuffing a 36-40" pike in a shopping bag. I was like what on earth is he doing? He stopped and stared at me thinking I was going to say something. Nothing I can say or do anyways since we "ALL KNOW IT'S PIKE OPENER RIGHT?". So I moved along, apparently the guy got lucky and caught it on a worm and bobber. The way he acted made me think afterwards that he doesn't have a license or knows the local regulations. In hindsight I probably should've called the MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) cause I suspect that some of these guys I did saw don't have a license. I am also a victim of being stereotyped as I am looked upon as part of being a "foreigner" who keeps things no matter size or season, because of that it gets more personal when I see them do it. So totally can agree that a few bad apples can cause others who follow rules and regulations get lumped into a category. Kudos to you for helping the fish out.
  17. I have two of these reels and they are good reels. They roughly go for around 130-140 retail, I bought both mine below 100 one at the BPS reel trade in (89.99 plus it was on sale) and I bought one at a local store who had it on sale for 85 if I remember correctly. So I'm sure you can find a deal somewhere. However, saying that I still find I use my Shimano and BPS PQ reels regularly, they are serving more as a back up.
  18. A 7 ratio would be fine for this, but I do use for my topwaters the 6 ratios because I find sometimes I going to fast with a buzzbait. Just a personal preference,
  19. Citica G or Curado G are fine, you won't be wronged by either reel. The other reel I'd recommend is the BPS Pro Qualifier. If you upped your budget another 50, I'd highly recommend getting the Chronarch. I think it would look pretty bad ass with your veritas.
  20. Capt. Bob - I'm not offended I was just stating what some guy off the street might perceive, that St. Croix is the only "Made in America". My last post was more of a response by the other guy too.
  21. I normally use beaver styled baits on a jig and more so when I Flip or Pitch. I'm not sure why they aren't hitting it. Of course you put a general statement though. Like the previous post, do you know if there is fish? have you caught fish with a different plastic? Are you using the same color? ..etc could be a lot of things.
  22. I considered trying my first Abu Garcia Revo BC, until I read your issues. I was going to pull a trigger on a S that was on sale locally at $84.99. Thanks for that! Instead I spent the money on 2 Chronarch 50Mg.
  23. For starters I would just stick F if you're only getting one rod. Not sure where you are located, but I might add that a Veritas usually is underrated. Meaning the MH is not a true MH, it's between Medium Heavy - Heavy. It might be better to get the Medium/Fast version. Shimano are pretty true to the ratings imo.
  24. I would go with the Veritas, I own one and they are a solid rod...especially at that price (69.99) you can't go wrong. However, I would really make sure before you buy one..make sure you inspect the rod for any visible defects and any nicks in the blank or damage. I bought a 7'3" MH/F when it was on clearance for 49.99, best 50 bucks on a rod I ever paid. Honestly don't have much experience with the Shimano Sellus, but I did own a Convergence, they are a good entry level stick. I'd go the step up though as you will get a limited lifetime warranty from Shimano.
  25. I don't own a Crucial cranking stick, I own a Clarus. I haven't had a problem with the backbone or scared of it breaking with a fish on. Mine is the M/MF version and the biggest fish I've battled on it so far was a 3lb smallmouth and largemouth. Never once did I feel like it was under powered. Of course it hasn't been tested by something bigger, but we all know a smallmouth is one helluva fighter.
