  1. Congrats! If you're going for higher end Shimano, I'd save and get the MGL. Much better than the CI4+ Chronarch. Not saying they are bad, but might as well get the new and improved version.
  2. The Chronarch MGL and Met MGL (JDM) the casting distance was basically on par, just the overall feel the Met was better to me. Both MGLs get better casting distance than a Curado 70. If I had to guess it would be 5-10 yards better than the Curado 70. This one place I fish I can basically reach the other bank (beyond) with the MGLs (river mouth), the 70 it just falls short of the bank. However, the rod, reel, lure and line are part of equation. They aren't the same, so it isn't scientific.
  3. It sounds like definitely user error. Sorry, but you can't blame a reel that a lot of people use and say they have backlash issues constantly. I'm sure they wouldn't be so popular then. I think you should get some help with someone who has experience with setting up a Daiwa reel. Even though I prefer Shimano, I owned a couple Daiwa reels and in my opinion the Daiwa braking system was a little more user friendly with backlashes.
  4. I use my Curado 70 XG for pitching or target short distance casts with jigs and worms. I use the Chronarch MGL XG for jigs and worms too but I use it for longer distance or deeper water. (extra line) The Met MGL I have, use it for moving baits (spinnerbaits/bladed baits, crankbaits, swim jigs etc.) I agree you get an extra few yards with the Chronarch MGL. Met MGL vs Chronarch MGL - It's kind of complicated, I say the Met is just little bit more refined in my hands, but if you compare the USDM prices . The difference in price is not worth it. Go with the Chronarch MGL. If you are buying the JDM version of the Met vs the Chronarch MGL (USDM) price, it's far more reasonable. I'd go with the MET JDM in that scenario. I would've bought more Met JDMs but here in Canada they have been cracking down it seems on anything I buy now internationally. So I opt to buy the Chronarch MGL from now on and not get dinged with the import tax. Either one will put a smile on your face. At least for me it does.
  5. I have a XG in both flavors. The Chronarch MGL wins in overall performance, if you thought the 70 is smooth. That being said both reels I could use all day long. The reason for edge is that the comfort, casting ability (effortless), retrieve,etc...just performs that extra mile.
  6. The Curado 70 is well received and some think it performs as good as some higher end reels. I honestly can't see how you are going to find any better than the reel "cheaper". You might find a reel that is close in performance. I guess that is where the subjective part is for everyone. If I had to guess a reel that would be in the ballpark, it would be a Daiwa Tatula CT. I've never used one but if I went outside Shimano, it would be Daiwa. Shimano for me is what I prefer.
  7. Goto FFO Fishermans Factory, 60 dollars for Veritas M/F. They fish between a M and MH. Would be a good all around rod.
  8. Maybe the one everyone is waiting for? A NRX equivalent 100 dollar rod!?
  9. I do this! I'm going on 5 years on some of my reels. No issues at all and I don't feel any less confident, I've never had my "braid" break midline on a cast. I've had that happen on all other lines though. I respool all my non braid lines every season or if it requires a change. I use leaders with my braid, I rarely use braid only.
  10. MBRs all the way, I have an E6X and IMX. My next one will be a 2 and 4 powered to complete my set. These will be my tourney rods. I really didn't believe the hype of the MBR series until I got my first. They really are that versatile.
  11. 1/4 oz would be too low if you are using a light weight plastic. If I was throwing 1/4 oz t rig worm I'd go with a Medium Power rod. However 1/2 oz should be fine. What brand is the rod? Another thing to note is that all brands have different power/action even if it says MH/F. Like my Veritas MHF actually fishes more towards the heavy side, while my Loomis would be like more a medium. Try a medium powered rod, see if there is any difference. I personally would use that power anyways for light plastics.
  12. I'd get the Curado I the 6 gear ratio for all around, especially since you can get them on clearance now. Then I'd pair that with a E6X 843C MBR, it is an awesome versatile rod. Use one for tournaments and I can fish every technique with ease. Don't feel under or over powered.
  13. I liked their power/action with the previous line than the newer ones. I would repair, no brainer for me. I do not like the newer ones.
  14. So I was in a tournament last Wednesday, I had 4 rods with me as a co-angler. (3 bc and 1 sp) 2 of the 3 were 6 gear ratios for all around, while the 3rd was a 7 ratio for plastics/jigs. I have 3 XG (8 Ratio) reels, I would never use them for general purpose nor would I use the 7 ratio as a general purpose, either. I find the 7 and 8 gear ratios were way too fast for a lot of techniques, I know people argue get the faster one and "slow down". I don't want to focus on "slowing down", I want to focus on catching fish, enjoying the scenery/nature, relax and have fun. No need to make "work".
  15. I'm with Roger. Shimano Met, 50-70 sized reels, Chronarch, Conquest and Stradic for me.
  16. The MGL is a better reel. Missing out, yes I help the bait monkey. Looks like everyone will be happy about the aluminum frame on the Curado.
  17. That just means you get to test your skills. If it isn't a population issue because of the catch and eaters.
  18. Kawarthas, Bay of Quinte, if you like camping too - Algonquin Park (Rock Lake/Coon Lake) is my favorite (I catch numbers there and once in awhile the biggun), but you're only a hope skip and away from the river. I'd do that on a daily basis. Hrm sounds like a challenge to check your skills? Or just too much catch and eat? Never been to Rice.
  19. Welcome to the boards. Fishnkamp is spot on and welcome to our addiction.
  20. I'd like to hear this opinion too. I'm hearing rumblings they are quite good from the local pro's that I know. Of course they are a sponsored.
  21. Interesting we have the opposite opinion. Of course I haven't tried an apples to apples comparison, I haven't put them on the same rod/line/lure. I'd get more JDM Met MGL if it weren't for the hit on import taxes. The Chronarch is a better deal when I get dinged!
  22. I own a Metanium MGL and a Chronarch MGL 150 XG. Overall they are both neck and neck but I'd give the slight edge to the Met MGL with casting distance. However both are smooth as heck and great casters. What I would base my decision on though is cost. If you buy the JDM version of the Met MGL vs the USDM Chronarch MGL then no contest, get the JDM version of the Met MGL. If you are talking USDM Met MGL vs USDM Chronarch MGL, the difference in price isn't enoughworth getting the Met in my opinion. I'd buy the the Chronarch MGL. However, if you are living in Canada...I've been getting dinged lately on import taxes when previously I hardly ever had to pay. On a Tacklewarehouse order recently I had pay 7 bucks on around 30 dollars worth of tackle. If it wasn't for a gift card I had, I wouldn't have ordered it. So if you are in Canada I would buy the USDM Chronarch MGL. I hope that was clear! Welcome to the forum.
  23. Mumbly if you're selling let me know.
  24. From what I understand they are, a 6,7 and 8.
