  1. Last year I tore some bass up with the shakey head. I was using a cheap spinning rod and reel, but I would like to upgrade this year. What is a decent rod and reel set up good for the shakey head? I think I would like to stick with a spinning rod and reel since I do a lot of close pitches in trees. As far as my budget, I would like to have less than $150 in the rod and reel.
  2. Wow they are kind of expensive..If I had a little bit newer boat that I planned on keeping for a while I would definatly be going with the power steering. But this was just kind of a cheap first boat and I planned on doing a little work to it from the start. I will probably stick with the cables, and hopefully get started on it this morning if it will ever warm up and quit raining. Thanks for your help brother.
  3. I do have a jack plate and I am not sure if the cables have been replaced before. Im not quite sure what you all were saying about taking the motor loose from the boat to take the cables out? I have already pulled the cables through the tubes to clean and lube, and left my motor attached. I do suspect it to be a pain in the butt to replace, but I will just have to watch out for all of the wiring like you said. I dont think that I will have to pull my gas tank, because the cables run over my cranking battery and out the same holes as the fuel lines and wiring, but I may pull it anyway to make it a little easier and to clean up. Also I doubt that I will do it, but how much is a power steering set up? Thanks for all of your help.
  4. Well just got my first boat, and I have been trying to get everything fixed the way I want on it. The steering was very very tight, so I took that dual cables off of the motor. I took brake cleaner and cleaned all of the old grease off of the cables and the tubes that they go through. I then put new marine grease on the cables before I re- attached it, I tried to turn the steering wheel but it is still just as tight at it was. I have done alot of reading and everyone says the cable is probably frayed making it bind, so it will need replaced. So my next project is taking them off from the rack one by one to see wich cable is bad, if not both. My question is how can I find replacement cables so I can get an idea on price before I give my local marine dealer a call?
  5. I have an Academy about 45 min away from me, their h20 crankbaits are nice. Also picked up a 25 pack of h20 3/0 ewg hooks for 3.99 they are just as nice as gamagatsu. Also had their senkos on sale .40 a pack!!
  6. I am going to be getting my first boat this week, it is an older boat (88 Stratos 189V). The top of the rails and some of the side is kind of faded almost like the clear coat is gone, has almost like a rough texture. Is their any way of shining it up to make it look a little better?
  7. I just ordered me one tonight. I was just going to get the Mg tournament speed spool but the bb1 was marked down to the same price. Let me know how you like yours, mine cant get here fast enough.
  8. Just put in a order for a Lews BB1 and Mojo crankin rod along with a few Normans.
  9. Just looked at it online after you commented. Looks like a good reel, and the external lube port is a plus also. I may have to go see if Gander MTN has one and try it out. Thanks
  10. I thought I was set on the Shimano Citica, but I picked up the Abu Orra sx the other day and fell in love with it. I know the orra feels a little heavier but not enough to bother me. I just wanted to ask some of you that have or have had experince with both of these reels.
  11. Well I went to the fish and boat show this weekend in Nashville,TN and came back with all kinds of goodies. While I was there I purchased a new Kistler Carbon Steel 7' Heavy. I figured I would make this my new jig/worm rod this year. Has anyone used these much? I figured $35 for a brand new Kistler was a pretty good deal so I had to have it.
  12. Hi guys, as the title says I am new and live in Kentucky. I have been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod, but have picked up mainly bass fishing in the past 3 years. I fish mostly Barren River Lake, but plan on touching a few more waters here in the bluegrass state this year.
