  1. Why not? Kinda like oval races going back to dirt for a few races. I will say one thing: my Humminbird has definitely not made me a better fisherman. I could slap a Humminbird 360 imaging unit on my boat and unless I know how to fish it's not going to help me. I get your idea though. Strip them down and force them to use pure talent. If people watched Jersey Shore, I don't see why they wouldn't watch your idea!
  2. I have several Abu Garcia rods and one is a Veritas. I love it and have had no issues. It feels a lot lighter than all of my lower grade rods. I also feel like it is sturdy and tough enough to handle most fish. I caught a 15 lb striper on it and I feel like that's good enough for me as my odds of catching a Largemouth that size are slim to none.
  3. Yeah, they are what they are. It's not like a Revo Winch and won't ever be. I just hate to shell out more money! I also hate to get rid of them because they still work and I can only have so many rods and reels. I thought if I could enhance the performance drastically I could see my myself using them a few more years. It would be the equivalent of hot rod-ing a Gremlin...
  4. Ignorance is bliss most of the time, but could a $25 set of bearings make a $49 reel fish a lot better? I don't know. No one will know until they try. And if it does make a world of difference then were you better off spending the now $74 or was it better to spend $129 on a Revo S? And if that $25 set of bearings doesn't make that much of a difference (in this case on a "cheaper" reel) then why is everyone buying them? Devil's advocate.
  5. Good info Tom. I noticed that the FLMB were stocked in a small, timber-flooded, northern arm of the 40,000 acre clear water lake I fish. The lake will never freeze over where I live. We don't have that harsh of a winter. I would say there is plenty of forage for these fish in this lake.
  6. I hear the name Boca come up when talking about bearings. What company would makes drag discs?
  7. What would be some components that a novice could install to improve your average baitcaster's performance? I don't have any issues with a reel. This is a generic question. I have some Abu Garcia Black Max and Silver Max reels and I don't necessarily feel the need to replace them with more expensive models. I just want to know if there is anything simple to do that could improve the overall durability and performance.
  8. I don't have time to read the entire thread, but I did notice the argument of realistic, life-like presentations. What about the stinking treble hooks guys? I've never seen shad in the wild with trebles on their belly. And what about that big plastic lip on the cranks? I'm on the fence but if fish shunned everything that wasn't 100% life-like we'd be in trouble. Forget about the line, what about that metal arm on the spinner bait or that huge black bristle coming from that "crawdad's" head?
  9. Ok, I want to catch the dumb breed then.
  10. You'd be able to hear me across the lake hollering.
  11. So, basically a larger, younger fish? The only thing less desirable would be less predictable fish behavior?
  12. What's the difference here between the two types of fish? I have heard that Florida's grow rapidly. Is that the only difference? The lake I fish has been stocking fingerlings since about 2009 or 2010. Apparently I've been fishing an area where they have been stocking them as well. I guess they were right under my nose without me knowing. How would I identify these fish? Should I try to target the Florida strain over native bass?
  13. "Beaver-infested water" You gotta be careful around those beavers these days! Glad you guys got all your gear back!
  14. Some people's kids....somebody needs to knock him in the head.
  15. 77, 77, 83, 83, 73, 70, tomorrow 54, Saturday 58 High temps for the last few days
  16. I heard a retired law enforcement officer make a good point one day. He said he never allowed toy guns in the house because he didn't want his kids making light of a weapon. He raised them around firearms and taught them to respect them. This seemed like a great idea to me. No one can tell you how to raise your children. God Bless the NRA! I'd rather a young child learn how to respectfully handle a firearm with responsible adult supervision, than sit around playing video games and becoming a degenerate.
  17. I've had several generation Revo S's and the 3rd Gen fouled up on me but I returned it to Bass Pro for another. I figured it was a bad reel, not a bad product. I love it and it is smooth. Can't say anything about a Citica as I've never casted one. It could be the best on the market for all I know. As far as the brakes go, I don't know why you wouldn't want the reel. They are easy to set. Generally you want to have an even pattern on the brakes such as 3 on 3 off or so and so. This way they are counter balanced. The Orra SX is also an awesome reel and about 30 bucks cheaper than the Revo S and only one bearing less.
  18. Racing stripes...Depends...they just go together.
  19. I'm waiting for somebody to say Eddie Rabbit.
  20. I think Depends would have been a better sponsor for Talladega. It would be a better fit...pun intended.
  21. Daytona and Talladega are some of my most favorite race weekends. I like this time of year because the All-Star (or whatever they call it now) and the Coke 600 are coming up but by far I love watching Talladega. Is it because of the wrecks? Of course, but I also like the pack racing. The good thing about the plate tracks is we get them twice a year. And on a final side note, I am glad Juan Pablo Montoya did not win Richmond. Not because I hate him or dislike his origin, but because as a self respecting NASCAR fan I could not watch a post race celebration where the winning primary sponsor was Depends! Am I wrong or was that his sponsor!?
  22. Sam's LSU comment was completely uncalled for!
  23. He's a million times better than Geno Smith!
  24. I can think of two things that feel better. One is sneezing...
