Will still go with the Silver Thread. Not as expensive as a lot of others but have great success. Have caught many large smallies on eight pound fireline with a 6# Silver Thread leader. Use other pound tests too and a great bang for the buck.
I can have a bad day in the rain as well as sunny. Given a choice I prefer off weather you might say. Days with a bit of overcast can really help a bite as it covers our motions a bit better I believe. Also if it rains there's less people on the water...less pressure.
Win...win
The two lakes I have fished have been 65 to 70 here in Tennessee and it's been tough. Lots of bait and short fish. Fishing our tues night classic today. Weather looks like rain and rain.....we will see...could be good.
I spend hard earned money on good reels and keep them for years. I also maintain these reels so I trust them to work...drags included. Have caught hundreds of steelhead and salmon trusting a drag using from six pound test to fifty pound test. No complaints. Also trust for bass too.
People who like to back reel.....that's awesome. It's all part of the game and what you like and feel comfortable doing.

Had a big spring chinook make a run one time on a surf rod with a penn jigmaster reel. Oh My Gosh. Wasn't ready and drag was a bit light. Took skin right off the old thumb. Happened fourty years ago and still remember the pain.
Thanks for the memory update
We to (wife and I) have seen this battle (cancer). Our daughter went to be with the Lord this year ....she was such a fighter and we were there for her for everything so I can relate to you and yours.
May God Bless you more and more.
Found out if I keep my mouth shut in the rain I will float!!! Like fishing the rain...like fishing on football weekends...anything to have the water more to myself.....
Now thats it's getting closer to winter....whoooohooooooooo
Hair flys and floating flys...
Double uni....has caught many many fish with no problems at all. I use four wraps on the fluro side and five on the braid side. And it's quick. Although that braid from Trilene was not happy with this knot so quit using it. Power pro and Suffix....all good
We always learn but my biggest learning memory was on remembering and getting re-enforced on this site was the verticle hookset for texas-rigs. Day in....day out...this is money.
Have had a fish in my hand with a small rattle trap still wiggling while hook was in finger....oh so painfull. Had to squeeze the little guy till he died and then was able to pull out trebles. Not sure how the above can say there is no pain but hats off to him. Have had hooks in me several times and pulled out myself....always felt something....but not joy....maybe relief when was out and didn't have to go to Doc.
Tight Lines
After this year:
Acute pancreatitus
Double Hernia operation
Draining of cist's of pancreas (over a liter)
Enlarged (ugh) ********
and Last but not least I lost my little nurse to cancer after a nine year battle.
It's been a year I hope to never see or feel again. Now that I'm able to fish better now but still healing and fearing I'm just glad the good Lord has given me another day on the water with so many other gifts I used to take for granted.
Tight Lines
Love wind......especially on the Columbia...turns the ol smallies on. Norris too. Have caught many smallies with waves breaking over back of boat. Spinnerbaits or cranks...sometimes a heavy jig.
Awesome answers....I had to slow down due to cancer in the family and acute pancreatitus on my part. Only when I was curled up in pain did I not want to go. When the kids were young we camped in the volkswagon camper bus two to three times a month and was awesome. Went to different places...new adventures and they and I loved it....mom too. Going to the same fishing hole for three or four months would be like eating at McDonalds for that amount of time......ugh.
Good luck
