  1. Work sharp...awesome and quick
  2. I believe the owner of Bunch Marine runs this show and I have been going since I moved to East Tennessee nine years ago. It has grown and grown and personally....I really enjoy. As far as wife friendly....if she likes fishing it's a great show. If not...you can stay an extra day and take her over to the tourist area around Dollywood.
  3. Used to live just down the road from these company's. Have owned both....and both company's have gone through many changes. Doesn't Gary now work for Temple Fork or one of the other fly rod company's.
  4. Have gone back from braid to ten and twelve pound mono. I have felt I was being to sensitive and over reacting. So far it has been good. This winter will tell.
  5. Catch quite a few bass in water in the low 40"s next to bank. Have even used an A-rig along ice and had large mouth nail it. Fishing is an adventure at times.
  6. Sorry to break this to ya but I might pick a different ....buddy....
  7. Many times I hear .... What am I thankful for..... I'm thankful I don't live up North....although it is pretty to visit.
  8. Sweet
  9. There's also something to be said to arrive at the boat ramp on a quiet cold morning (hopefully not much wind) and have it all to yourself.......whoooooohooooooo
  10. Lifting....all the best...very best for ya.
  11. Just purchased a Dixie custom rod out of Tennessee. Lifetime warranty and the action is spot on. May be getting more. (jerkbait special) Spinning rods in the store had great action too but the lifetime warranty I've heard is amazing. Good Luck
  12. It's a personnel thing but on my bass spinning rods I pretty much stick with ten pound braid maybe eight in winter and six to twelve pound leader depending on waters fished. I also use a simple double uni and it works well....good luck.
  13. I love the sun rises and sets all times of the year. Sometimes it's not about the catching but the experience. I do real well early on cold days....usually fish are deeper on the smallie lakes so temp I don't believe is a big issue....they like the shadows too. Not to say you can't catch them on sunny banks...I do. But it's an all day thing. Have fished some brutal days where you dip the rod every other cast and the wind is blowing but they still eat.
  14. Well.....back home safe and sound. Was truly an awesome trip even though there were some burps. We arrived on Tuesday and checked into the Seven Gables which is an older motel but awesome. They let us BBQ out front and the boats were in front of the rooms like in the old days instead on three floors up like at the host motel. I had told my wife (who loves to golf) we would golf Tuesday and the last practice day Friday. Didn't feel like I needed to fish friday as I wanted to get boat ready and tackle and just chill. Well....golfing was excellent on Friday and I even beat my wife which is unheard of. We also had some good friends come along and so this made the trip even better. Pre-fishing was good....found some fish way down lake and thought I would have this end of lake to myself mostly.....NOT. Believe there were four tourneys this weekend. Anyway ..... Saturday dawned pretty windy and rainy but not to cold and within a hour I had two solid fish in livewell. Now this was a no cull tourney so the first five in the livewell stayed. Well I ran down lake and fished my third spot and went to start the boat and click...click...click....sadness. Non boater was awesome. His nickname was Peanuts and he's from west Tennessee and was a huge help and a class act. As we were floating out in the lake we try and pull the cowling off....now this is fun if you've never down in in the waves in heavy cloths. So anyway he starts tapping the starter and I turn the key and the boat starts...whooohoooo. Am I nervous....yes. So I keep motor idling and the alarm goes off after about an hour. So turn off. Now you guys don't really know me but I like to fish a spot for about five minutes and if there's no customers ....or I see no fish I leave. Well this really really crimped my style....I was nervous. So I fished water I was new too and the excuse's go on and on. I ran back to be close to the ramp with no more keepers in live well. This was the first day in all my time fishing here that I hadn't put a limit in boat so was kind of sad but oh well. Found out it was very tough for everyone. Second day dawned clear and frosty. My good friend who had brought his boat to practice out of let me use his boat the second day. This was the first time in my life I have ever borrowed a boat....was nervous. Filled it with gas and used about five gallons....maybe. There were too many buttons and gadgets and lights. Was nervous so didn't want to go to far. My close up plan had fish...lots of fish but too many short strikes and this made it tough. Ended up getting four small keeper spots on mostly a drop shot and one on a spinnerbait. My non boat too was a class act but had a rough day...rough. Could not hardly get bit even though we were on top of the fish. I gave him my bait and within a short time he lost it and didn't want another. We've all had those days....(too many). I could hook the dinks...but keepers were tough to come by. All in all was a great time....wife had good down time and was so glad she came. I ended up on the boater side just out of the top 12 by about a pound and a half....close but..........who knows what would have happened if my ol boat would have worked....who knows. But....that' my story....and I'm sticking too it. Tight Lines All P.S. Thanks to all who helped on the side...was awesome. Oh...am going to try and enclose a picture of a rock structure by the lake on one of the spots I liked fishing. Spoooooky!! Having troubles
  15. I do both with success....I just try and walk quietly....your in there home. There was an exception back home in Oregon on this trout stream that cattle would cross frequently. I called it the Crooked River Shuffle. You drug your feet across the bottom as you walked and then fished below you. Was crazy good. Trout waited for the cattle to cross for their food to be stirred up. So....I too stimulated the hatch!!!
  16. Well I've done my prefishing....(been up there for a total of six days....now leaving this morning with my wife (whooohoooo) and a couple friends and going to do the official prefish and then tourney on Sat/Sun. I must say...I would think that approaching the 70 year mark I would be more calm, cool, and collective about this journey......NOT. Muscles will be sore .... hope stomach calms down .... etc...etc. Kinda funny....gotta smile....Love this stuff....Praise God I still get to compete. Thank you FLW. Semi Finals here we come..... Will try and give a good account of the journey next week.....Tight Lines All
  17. Been a strange year........
  18. Wow
  19. Aug through early October is best!!!!!!!!
  20. It's official....heat was turned on in the house yesterday for the first time....fall is finally here. Lake temp dropped ten degrees and the grass is now not growing so fast. Yeah....fall has arrived.
  21. OH.......MY......GOSH
  22. Wow....learned something new and interesting.....thanks
  23. Always loved the color of the water and bass in Culaby. I fished the Necanicum too for over 40 years and when it rains here in Tennessee the water in Beaver Creek sometimes reminds me off the old days. Used to have a big addiction to steelhead and have fished almost every legal stream from the Columbia to almost the California border for them to just say I did it. But chasing smallies on the Columbia was my favorite to the tenth power. Tight Lines
  24. Well Saturday finished off our Tuesday nighter's for the end of year. Was fun to fish the lake for a whole day and weigh in at four and get eight hours of fishing. Ol Melton Hill did what it does best to me and did a 180 on what would work for us. Weather was windy and cool, cloudy and water temp dropped ten degree's in less than a week. Then the sun came out and sky's cleared but still was windy. Pretty day. Anyway....we had a limit in the boat in about two hours and were stoked. Almost all on a bait that "Never" hardly works for me on the HILL. A spinner bait...sheesh. I could get bites on a jig and my son caught fish on a jig but me....swing...miss....swing...miss. Spinner bait....yes....and on a new war eagle I bought too. Have never tried one of those...thinking I like em. Then.....sadness.....had two small spots for the last hour and a half I wanted to fish....yup...fish were there and they bit. Sad part was they all came off....and were better fish then we had in well. Oh...finished just out of the money.... Good part....got to fish with son another day and look forward to next year.
