You came on here asking the question...sooooo sounds like you have some cares. Do the right thing....not something you'll regret the rest of your life.
I remember once many years ago camping in Oregon on a lake and we got up early to hit the water and started hearing all this comotion. Well we sneaked down to the waters edge with flash lights and there were hundreds of fish by the bank. Mostly trout....there were tons of bugs in the water next to the bank that the wind had blown up shallow threw the night. The little fish were eating the bugs and bigger fish were chasing the smaller fish. Was cool seeing the ol food chain working.
You can also get a small line counter to maybe help. But 50 to 75 on each is great. Have done for years. When starts to get frayed or faded (I use yellow) I switch it over and use the back side. It's like new. This was can get two to three years or more off spools. Six or seven foot leader is good too.

I go fishing to enjoy the great outdoors and it's quiet and beauty. Love hearing fish jump, birds sing...etc. Have no desire to "bring home" in the boat wether it scares fish or not. Don't get enough time on water as it is. But to each his own for sure.
I've been using 15# power pro for cranking and having no more problems than I would using fluro and I don't have many probs using fluro. Casting distance has been great. I play around with brakes according to wind. I also use a shimano chronarch 51 mg.
15 # Power Pro (yellow) and a six foot leader of Silver Thread flurocaron in ten or 12. Have fished an 8# leader with no troubles too. I use a double uni. Five wraps on the braid side and four on the fluro....tight lines
Bubba did it in style...awesome. First time...but then I don't watch much but wife said a first. Was when he did the hand clap thing with so many fans. Was cool. Class act.
Done the seed thing outdoors and with fine soil, a light mist couple times a day you will be rewarded. Unless of coarse a rabbit or cat wants to snack or dig.
Tried some 15lb Power Pro on my crankin stick with a 12 fluro leader yesterday. As long as I didn't snap cast life was good. Caught a bunch of fish up to four lbs. Fun day....believe I'm keeping it on.
The only thing I can add to all this excellant advice is try and block out all the baggage we carry on our shoulders. I would use the texas worm (but in a 1/8 or 1/4) and throw it out by targets. Just focus on the line and your feel for little ticks. Pull it in slowwww...wiggle once in awhile and just focus on enjoying what our great Lord has created.

She probably just responded very quickly thinking you wore out a reel and wanted you to have a new one!! Get the new one and put that reel with original handle on one of your dads rods and put it in a special place in your boat. MEMORIES!!
