  1. MOST of the time once youve landed a fish and get a good grip on their jaw, they mellow out and kinda surrender. In my small boat or on shore, if it takes a minute, Ill dip them in the water and pull em back and fourth to keep em wet and get some oxygen. Most cases they dont swim off or kick away until I let go. In the bass boat, toss em in the live well.
  2. Had the same situation Monday morning. Ton of fish,.. All under 2 lbs
  3. Ive done some research, but wanted a few more opinions. Ive got an 18` bass fiberglass bass boat with a 150 on it. Right now the prop on it is a ss 14-1/4" x 21" pitch. I have a friend who has a 23" also stainless that wants to sell it to me for $100, and looks in good shape. He said Ill get a little more speed and gas mileage which the mileage is what Id like to see improve. From what Ive read 23-24, primarily 23" is where to be with this size boat and motor. What do you guys think? Any other modifications to improve performance/mileage? Thanks in advance!
  4. fish rarely smash senkos like other baits. Sometimes I find I fish on the line I didn't know were there because the bite was so minimal. When I do feel the tap, I wait a few seconds. Simetimes they spit it out and its a loss. Many times a tap tap is a take and a spit. But if I see the line goin, or slacking, I make that time to set it. Ive watched fish take senklos quite a few times, and especially smaller ones, they grab it, swim away and gulp it down as they go "takin their time" and don't inhale the whole thing all at once. If you feel one big thud, swing for the fences! The big ones just take it all. "
  5. hah got em. 3/8 n 1/2 oz each of swim and hvy swim, and a couple pitchers
  6. Nice fish! when I first began fishing I heard jigs jigs JIGS!!! So I got a bunch and never had much luck. In the past year Ive used them maybe twice, but with the experience Ive quickly gained think Imma try them again. Im goin to grab a few swim jigs too... this being one of them.
  7. skinny but long enough, another 22" tonight. now best 5 @ 105"
  8. I think if the reel isn't the pros own design, they may opt to use what they are used to. Some people just stick to what they know works, and new products don't always mean better. Im sure 85% of the people who buy these reels don't even know what pro uses what anyways. When I used to race bikes, I had Dunlop as a contingency sponsor. I had to place top 3 to get paid anything. The uk made ntec was the best tire made, at $530 a pair I used these. These were the only tires I used, sometimes the US version of the same (cheaper but less grip) since I started my first track day. My last year Pirelli came out with a new tire that was supposed to be awesome and a hair better at $100 less a pair. So, at $100 less, Id break even or save not having to hit the podium, but did I want to risk running something I wasn't used to mid season, and pay to have the suspension re tuned on my bike to match several times over and re adjust, or stick to what I know the last of the season? I stuck to Dunlop. Lots of people asked why who don't get it. Not to mention another motive, I was able to join the AMA who spec the same Dunlop tire.
  9. BAM! my top 3. but I wouldn't ever limit myself to any particular brand. everyone has something different to offer. I stick to these brand because of the action, sizes, and colors. If I know zooms junebug red is a good color, its the same in a worm or brushhog. but not the same pour in another brand, if even available. Strike kings senko in watermelon red isn't a match to gary yamamotos, its lighter, so In really clear water, I prefer the SK over GY, but most waters I fish in aren't crystal clear, and the GY has better action. For low viz water, I prefer a darker bps pumpkin. Its a color and worm that works, and cheaper. These 3 brands have almost everything I like to use, but if I ever have a situation where maybe I could have had a few more bites with this tail, or color from someone else, better believe Imma grab a pack for next trip despite the brand name.
  10. Replacing my 18" with this 21.5" for a 102" in 5 total Martin and I didn't have a great day, but we both got decent fish. 5lb and 3lb and a gazillion missed bites.
  11. I wonder how a snakehead would do as bait in big water (8-12") Im a fan of using big lures and plastics to catch bigger fish. I heard theyre good in saltwater. I wouldn't introduce them anywere they didn't already populate tho.
  12. What is that bait hes using? That thing lasted way longer than anything I ever use. Looks like a pearl fluke, but it lasted forever
  13. I miss understood too. I had more 15-18" ones I could have put, but figured I could do better within a month. Im fine with either way, but prefer top 5 as well. Maybe next month? Missed one fish the first week then. Got these 2 biggest today, but hopefully can top em by the end of the week. 18&19" 98.5" overall so far in 5
  14. dark color to black 12" mag worms t-ridded with light 1/8oz bullet, large senkos, mid to large top water poppers, and hollow body frogs. Havent done much night fishing, but those work well for me. Ive tried jitterbugs, but haven't had much luck with it yet, but its the small one. Eventually Ill get the larger one for night . Think my fav is probably the popper cos of the startling effect of the hit.
  15. it was pretty hot here today. a little chop on the water. thought I could burn some spinners through it. went deeper n deeper, slowed down, went to squarebills, changed to weighted t rigs, then about an hour and a half later got bit up with a good ole pumpkin senko, and zero dirt senko.
  16. #2.... 19" #3 20.5"
  17. went out to the glades today for a few hours, we got about 30 fish, but all dinks, 2 lbs maybe the biggest... 1 bowfin, a flat on the trailer riding back, and a bad sunburn. Maybe tomorrow.
  18. not sure yet. last summer I had no clue what I was doing yet lol
  19. some nice fish showing up here! should see a bunch more popping up this weekend. When does this end, Monday some time?
  20. trimming some does help side to side. Also shorter "legs" reduce the chance at a lost strike if the fish hits from behind. On one of mine, I put a rattle inside, and another some small split shots for small ratle and a bit of weight for on top of heavy cover to make them easier to find, and get the belly to poke through a bit more. helps at night too
  21. I know some states they are illegal to throw back or even to have on you. Im not sure if its a law in FL or not, even though Ive heard it quite a few times... even from people who hardly fish, but I didn't see anything on the FWC site about it other than they encourage killing them, and any other invasive fish with the exception of peacock bass updated 4/17/2013. It didn't say you cant though.
  22. very nice!
  23. #1 22" didn't realize the lighting was so bad. was in a hurry to grab a tape measure and find my phone, get these and throw it back before I looked
  24. dang! cant believe I missed it!! Next year I guess. Thanks for all the above info though, at least I get the idea now. So I guess qualifying was at the beginning of the year, and you have to qualify to compete? Makes sense I guess. Probably cuts down on having 500 boats out at once lol.
