  1. What part of the alley? The finger canals just north or just the alley?
  2. Well. That was probably the worst day of bass fishing ever. We started out on Alley fishing the main canal and the finger canals. Had no bites on the usual morning lures so we switched to wacky worms. We then got a few bites and the bass weren't even bigger than 1/2 a pound. So tiny. Then that front came over and shut whatever bite there was down. We picked the boat up and then went to Holiday Park. I know a kinda secret spot where the bass tend to school up. And boy were they. Hundreds of them. You could see them. But they weren't bigger than 1/2 a pound, any of them. We caught about 20 on topwater and then got sick of the little rats. We fished some marsh access points with wacky worms later with no bites to show. We left and were back at home by 12:30. Water was 16 feet deep in Alligator Alley. Water temp was 66-67 degrees. Looks like it'll be a couple months before it gets good.
  3. I went to order a bunch of lures online off the Gambler website. They wanted to charge $12 shipping as the cheapest option! ***.com was out of stock and so was another website. BPS has nothing online. I found a website called FishFreakOnline. Cheap prices, 10% off and free shipping! My package should be arriving today.
  4. Hey guys. I'm planning on fishing Holiday Park/Alligator Alley this Sunday. However, a cold front is expected to come through Saturday night. I'm worried the fish might have lockjaw, but I still would like to go anyways. I think I can be successful if I figure out the right things. Would it still be worth it to go? What lures and techniques should I use? Should I downsize lures? I was planning on fishing the finger canals on Alligator Alley for bedding fish first. Thanks anybody for your help!!
  5. I've never used the ribbon tails or the creature baits. I'll have to give them a try as well. I believe there was just a tournament in Lake Okeechobee and the winning boats were using a Gambler Big EZ and a Crawdaddy.
  6. I'm posting this because I wish I read something like this a long time ago. I've been bass fishing in South Florida now for about 6 years. My favorite lures have always been a Zoom Superfluke in watermelon red, or a 5" blue wacky worm. Those are my lures. It's what I use, and I did well with them. I've been to the Everglades and caught over 100 fish in a day on these lures. I catch 3-4# fish every now and then. They work. I've used topwaters a couple times but I pretty much stick to those lures. My friend was telling me about how amazing these new Gambler lures are. I thought he was full of crap. I've even fished with him, beside him, and he didn't seem to be catching much more/bigger than I was with my wacky worm. He would just cast out and reel back. No twitching, no pausing. It was almost a topwater. It worked for him. He gave me a few lures. I threw them in my bag and kind of forgot about them. A trip after I was fishing with my friend. I was using a wacky worm, he was using a fluke, and we were fishing in a lake we both knew was very good but we had only caught a couple... My favorite lures were not working. I remembered the Gambler Big EZ. I tied it on, cast into the lily pads and started reeling back. It was like flipping a light switch on. Bass were exploding the water surface like snook to get to that lure. I couldn't believe it. In the past 3 trips now I've used only the Gambler Big EZ and have had tremendous success. Not only am I catching more fish, the fish are better quality. The big EZ is a big fish magnet. I caught 50+ fish in one day and the smallest fish was over 2 pounds. These are on residential lakes, fished by foot. This is unheard of. We nailed quite a few 4-6# fish as well. The rig: Gambler Big EZ (Copperfield, green, all white, dark blue) rigged with a 1/8 or 3/8 oz weighted 6/0 or 7/0 worm hook with the twist-keeper. Rig it weedless, cast into cover, reel back just below the surface like a topwater so it makes a little v wake. Unbelievable. I'm posting this because if you haven't tried these lures you need to. I can't wait to go to the Everglades this weekend and try these lures out!
  7. Btw PM me, we should go fishing some time. I'm always looking for bass partners to explore new lakes with.
  8. I too am from Broward County and the bass fishing can be very tough. It seems as if all the good lakes are west of 441 and the more north (into Boca/Boynton) you go the better. Canals suck. Big lakes suck. Those are good lures. My go-to lures are a zoom superfluke in watermelon red and a dark blue Gary Yamamato senko. Also a Gambler big EZ in pretty much any natural color rigged with a 1/8 oz big hook reeled on top can be deadly. Look for any lake with structure. If there's no lily pads, underwater grass, green goop or sawgrass on the shoreline, it's probably not worth fishing. You can see all these types of structure on Google Earth or Google maps. Residential lakes always seem to do better. It also seems like the bite has been better after 2PM versus a morning bite. Good luck!
  9. Really appreciate the information. It helps a lot. I like the looks of the L68A canal. I'll have to give it a shot next time I go out for sure. Quick question. How do you get out to the flats, safely? I'm going to be completely lost when I start fishing Lox... Thanks, DH
  10. Hey all, I've only been to Holiday Park a handful of times and only have ever fished deep in the middle canal with very good success. But I know people catch bigger fish in other areas. I'm looking to start fishing the other areas but the only reason I haven't explored is because I don't want to get lost. Does anyone know any other decent areas? Not looking for specific spots, just general areas, I can do the rest. I've been studying the Google Earth view but I can only see so much. Is the canal that runs north to Alligator Alley any good? Or the one that goes south? Or the one in the middle that shoots off northwest from where all the airboats usually take pictures? Here's a picture so y'all can see what I'm looking at: Thanks so much if anyone can help! I really appreciate it. DH
  11. What's going on everyone. Dolphin_Hunter here from Pompano Beach, Florida. If you don't know where that is, it's about an hour north of Miami, Florida. It's in the sweet spot of Florida where I have all kinds of fishing at my disposal - the Everglades is half an hour drive inland, and the ocean is minutes away available for offshore fishing. I love it. I'm 20 and I have my own boat. It's a 14 foot Pro-Sport (I think). It really is a ghetto boat, but hey, it floats, the engine runs and it catches fish. I like all kinds of fishing, whether it is Largemouth Bass or Mahi-Mahi and Sailfish offshore. The name Dolphin_Hunter comes from my favorite fish, the Dolphin (mahi-mahi). Biggest catches to date include a 5# bass, a 24# snook, and a 32# dolphin. There's a ton more but I won't get into all that. Look forward to posting with you guys! DH
  12. What's going on everyone. First post here. I'm about to go make an introduction post over in that section soon. I live in South Florida and I'm fortunate to have the Everglades just a half hour drive away! I bought a boat sometime last year and because of work, school, repairs and weather, I just hadn't had the time to fish like I've wanted to. I decided about a week ago to finally buy myself a trolling motor and force myself to go fishing. I went with a Minn Kota and I absolutely love it. But enough ramble - onto the report. Made the decision last night to hit up some old spots out in Everglades Holiday Park to see if they still produced and to try out the new trolling motor. First trip of the year and it's a beautiful morning, lots of cloud cover, no wind. Made it to the ramp, splashed the ghetto boat, and made the journey into the glades! Tossed an original floating rapala at the first spot and immediately hooked up... Very good sign. From that point on fish were flying in the boat all day. When the topwater bite slowed down, we switched to watermelon red superflukes. When that slowed, we added a bullet weight, and then when that slowed down we switched to a blue wacky worm to catch the last 25 or so fish. Mostly small fish but a couple nicer 2 to 2.5 pounders were mixed in. We tried to get as many photos as we could, but with fish popping all around the boat, it was hard to stop fishing! My buddy Cross with a nice fish: And me Total tally ended with 84 fish, all caught and released. SUPER fun day for sure, and of course the regular Everglades hawks and gators that are always awesome to see. Going out in a couple weeks again to try some different areas and hopefully land a couple 5+ pounders. Also, I'll be getting a GoPro in a couple weeks to make video fishing reports. Excited for that! Can't wait to see what the rest of 2013 will bring. Tight lines everybody, DH
