  1. You can purchase the stronger spring from Bryan at The Tackle Trap in Al. Not hard to swap out but it will test your nerves for sure. Very small parts can go flying.
  2. Hedgehog Studio The Tackle Trap PLAT Japan Tackle Direct from ZPI Leciel Style
  3. I have a friend who will buy it from me. I’m hoping I like it but I think I found my place with Daiwa. Even if it performs well, my mind will say “it’s not a Daiwa” Maybe I shouldn’t of bought that expride for it already lol.
  4. I actually did pre order one. I was too intrigued not to. I’ve tried Shimano in the past and they didn’t do it for me. I know I won’t get stuck with this reel if I decide I don’t like it. I do prefer Daiwa but hopefully this reel is the one to change my mind haha.
  5. The August time frame is what was given to them by Shimano. It is subject to change, and probably will. Left hand reels are going to ship roughly a month after right hand. Last I heard it will be Oct/Nov for lefties.
  6. Not everything is just for appearance. That particular reel is only cosmetic except the spool swap but I have a lot of others that have internal parts polished, different gears, fast worm gear upgrade, along with cosmetic parts. I have no shelf queens and I fish all of my gear. That’s why I bought it so I get enjoyment out of using it. I do have some fishing lures at work that I keep around to look at and dream about fishing haha.
  7. If it’s just for bladed jigs then I think the Zodias would be just fine. I picked up a new 7’2 mh (non glass) expride tonight for $202 from Simmons sporting goods in AL.
  8. Thank you, sir. I can’t right now. That would be another mouth to feed and body to clothe. You’ll take away from my spending money. I got to buy what I can before getting married soon.
  9. Yes, I do. To most people it’s a waste of money or considered pointless. $500 reel with another $300 worth of parts installed. Dumb right... You can’t see the gold Zpi pg spool. Why did I do it? Well, because I can, and it makes ME happy. You can’t take money with you when you die. Spend it on things that put a smile on your face. Cars, fishing gear, guns, ect. This site doesn’t have many that are enthusiasts and feel the need to spend even more money on a reel, but there are a good many of them out there though. @Redlinerobert comes to mind for sure. He basically had a reel built for him by Ian Shields. Who is 110% hands down the best in the business for reel tuning.
  10. Are the drag spring washers installed with curve facing away like this ()
  11. I’ve never heard anyone say the 1st gen steez is uncomfortable. Anyhow, the new Curado dc is built off the Curado K frame. If you can find one to fondle then you’ll have a good idea. The large gearbox of the Shimano reels concerns me, but I know with this purchase I won’t get stuck if I don’t like it.
  12. Right, it’s a huge downgrade. The new Curado dc has peaked my interest, so I went ahead and pre ordered one. I feel like I’ve cheated on my wife now haha.
  13. Keep an eye out for the eBay coupons you can use. They had a 15% off one just a couple days ago. See if you can grab a Steez A for $300. Even a Steez SV103 or zillion 1016 sv would be a good choice. As much as I am a Daiwa fan, I think going from the Antares dc to a Tatula sv will leave you wanting a little more. Just a guess and I could be wrong.
  14. Their 702 casting rod was awesome. I wish they wouldn’t of gotten rid of it.
  15. The zillion 1016 sv spool is $70 from a US company in AL. It’s worth every penny as it’s a great spool in any reel I’ve used it in.
  16. The zillion sv tw is going to be a bit better of a reel. It has a free floating spool and will probably feel built just a little better. It is however not going to be some huge night and day difference vs what you already have. The difference in price would be my deciding factor. $40 or less I’m getting the zillion. Jdm vs Usdm is also not going to be a big difference. It’s always something little like an extra bearing or two, a bearing in place of a plastic bushing, or sometimes longer handle depending on the reel. Also remember there is no warranty on a jdm reel in the US if you should need it. For some that’s not a concern because we are ok with ordering parts and fixing things ourselves. Others who don’t work on reels would be better off sending it back to Daiwa and having it returned all ready to go and not cost them any $.
  17. Forget about the favorite and put that mgl on a zodias.
  18. Both spools use the same parts. I’ve taken dozens of sv spools apart to upgrade the spring and/or lower inductor ramp. Never once have any been different than the next. Daiwa has switched from the old style (black) lower inductor ramp to the new style (white) lower ramp and that’s the only variance I’ve seen. All the SV103’s I’ve seen use the newer style ramp. The newer ramp is the fix for sticking inductors that use to occur on earlier sv spools. E clip washer/s (some use 2) spring inductor inductor ramp felt washer You can purchase each part individually from PLAT in Japan but it will run you about $40 with shipping.
  19. Pick up any used sv spool and take off the parts you need to fix yours. I’ve seen them as cheap as $50-60.
  20. Added a 92mm ZPI handle to the steez also. Don’t mind the red bolt, it’ll be gone soon. Waiting on a small parts order from Mayumi at Leceil Style.
  21. Same here. I never found it to be an issue. With most of today’s reels being in the 6oz range I’m sure someone would complain though.
  22. The og zillion is a 12yr old workhorse reel that’s dang near bulletproof. The only drawback one could say, is it weighs almost 9 ounces.
  23. Ray’s Studio offers an aftermarket cast cap in a handful of colors.
  24. It’s a first gen tatula type r that was made for Cabela’s by Daiwa. Call Daiwa and speak with Thelma. She will get you all squared away. There’s also options for aftermarket cast caps too.
  25. PART 58 - it’s a small E clip on the non handle side as pictured below. It sits in a groove on the end of the worm gear. Trust me, it comes off. Daiwa has used this design to hold the worm gear in place for at least 2 decades.
