  1. Not entirely true though. The shallower spools like the steez sv 105 are not the best for larger line and bombing baits. I’ve hit my knot quite a few times. I was hitting the knot using #15 big game with a 1/4oz head and keitech 3.8 on Monday. The deeper spools don’t always have that issue but I’ve encountered it a few times with certain baits.
  2. You are far from bfs territory with that line size. Cut that in half and then you’re talking bfs. Casting things in the 4 gram and below range, like a crappie jig. For trusted sites - japan lure shop digitaka japan tackle
  3. Set the cast control knob so you feel the slightest wiggle in the spool when moving it side/side with your fingers. That’s it you’re done with setup. Put the brakes on what you think is a good starting point and work your way up or down from there. Leave the ccc alone once you first set it.
  4. Only thing I’m going to add is the #1 most well known reel tuner who tunes reel sent to him from all over the world... Some of which are very high end... He uses grease on a lot of the bearings and nobody complains about what he does. As for removing the grease a mixture of simple green and water plus some time in an ultra sonic will flush them out no problem.
  5. What reel are you looking to try a sv spool in? If your reel uses a 34mm free floating spool design, then go with the zillion 1016 sv spool. It holds plenty of line in larger diameters. I have mine spooled with #15 big game currently.
  6. One is lower/middle end and the other is high end. It’s kind of hard to make that comparison. The tatula is a good bang for the buck rod. I haven’t used any of the newer models but I have fished a handful of the original ones. The Steez will use a better blank and better guides. It’s up to you if the extra money is worth spending.
  7. I use the Engel 19qt on my ride 115x. Fits perfectly longways in the tank well. Rod holders are removable but I use mine. Some water, sandwiches plus some snacks fit just fine. It’s not going to hold ice all weekend but does fine for a 8hr river float. $50 I believe @ ACK.
  8. Some blue marine grease or super lube would work. I prefer a greased worm shaft over oiled.
  9. Each carrier has their own horror stories so I don’t feel any one stands out as the best. I use usps priority mail with insurance. Cost has ran me anywhere from $20-50 with about $30ish being the average price.
  10. Definitely a crappy situation. I’m still curious as to how can pvc be bent far enough to snap a rod in the strongest area but not break. Is it the super thin wall pvc? That would seem more likely to happen than with sch/40.
  11. You can install pixy type r 6:8:1 gears in the Alphas/sol platform, or you can also install the Alphas sv 7:2:1 gears in it. Tackle Trap in Alabama carries all types of Daiwa parts. They’re your one stop shop for anything you would need. http://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=898_660
  12. I’ve been looking for a nice jdm 2pc rod to keep in the trunk off and on for a bit now. After being told about Olympic graphite leader (who produces their own blanks and also makes some high end golf club shafts) from an online buddy who is constantly on the search for the best blank money can buy... I pulled the trigger on the veloce rv 6’9 mh/f. Build quality is great and the rod is light at 3.5 ounces. Won’t be able to test on the water sensitivity until spring but it feels nice and crisp, and for what they cost should perform just fine.
  13. Looks like the epoxy just cracked off the guide foot from being bent down. If they aren’t able to wiggle then I say fish it. Whoever that came from needs some help with packaging a rod.
  14. They make and sell carbontex drag washers for all kinds of reels. These are the ones most people purchase. http://smoothdrag.com-u.us/
  15. Daiwa spools are only sold as an assembly. It’ll have a factory bearing on it.
  16. Suffix 832 Seaguar smackdown PP super slick 8 PP original Daiwa samurai Daiwa J braid X4 Daiwa J braid X8 Any of those are just fine.
  17. They are the best in the business. A one stop shop for all your needs. Authorized service center for Daiwa and Shimano plus carry a large assortment of high end gear. Their reel tech/tuner is a friend of mine and his work is top notch.
  18. It does not get any easier than this for a line/line knot. I’ve been using it for years and it works fine. Slim enough to pass through micro guides and works with varying line sizes. I vary my wraps with line size though. Example 12# leader and 30# braid I only wrap up around 7 times. 6# leader and 10# braid I wrap about 15 times. Thinner lines require more wraps to hold without slipping through.
  19. Abu works japan offers them.
  20. My buddy has the fury 734 and it works good for the 90 and 110 size. Wouldn’t do so hot on the 130 though.
  21. I think you should really enjoy them. They come pre lubed and are very quiet.
  22. I bought a 2nd spinnerbait special I like it so much. At sale price I couldn’t say no.
  23. Rod power ratings are all subjective. There is no standard at all. Lure ratings are suggestions. I’ve had a mh that acted like a heavy and a mh that acted like a medium. Up to 3/4 is a bit high for most medium rod lure ratings. Generally top out about 1/2-5/8 for most companies. It sounds like a better rod might just be all you need.
