  1. i started kayak fishing on lake norman and mountain island lake. so long as you're smart and stay out of some of those crazy high traffic areas, no issues. even on the catawba, south of the lake norman dam is good for kayak fishing. i started out with a 10' sit in kayak and that thing helped me catch plenty of fish. but then i worked up to a wilderness ride 135 sit on top and would never go back to the sit in. i think for you, a 12' sit on top would be the right spot to start. that'll get you all over the lake and back! also important to factor in a quality life jacket that is very comfortable and one you'll wear 100" of the time. i use an onyx auto/manual inflatable jacket. and a quality, but lightweight paddle is a must.
  2. i saw it and knew it wasn't real lightning. Saw that actually happen right in front of me about 16-17 years ago in Orangeburg, SC. Working construction for my uncle and he did underground boring for fiber optic cables. We had about 500 feet of the metal rods pushed out with the drilling head on, pulling cables where a bridge had washed away. the 500 feet of rods started on one end, went under the river and came out on the other side with the drilling head exposed. we were working feverishly to get the auger head off ASAP before the storm because my uncle feared someone might steal it and they were hard to get and crazy expensive. we had barely got the head off and in the truck when about 25 feet away the lightning hit the rod on our side of the river and did the craziest-freakiest dance across the river, following the rods underground, and shot vertically out of the ground on the other side of the river and sounded like a cannon shot. thank god none of us were hurt, but it was as close as i'll ever want to be to that happening. needless to say, our ride from job site to the hotel that afternoon was total silence.....
  3. agree that a 1 year warranty is plenty to cover what should be covered by a warranty. i like to look for rods that also have decent replacement policies in case i do something dumb down the line....
  4. pflueger supreme either 30 or 35 size and the daiwa ardito travel rod 7'M (have TW price match the price that Walmart shows online). That has you at about $180 or so. casting call jamie at sportsmans outfitters and get a daiwa tatula for like $85 shipped, they have the 6'10"MHF on the website which is one of my favorite all around rods. then snag you the CT or SV of your choice and you're set. shouldn't put you over the $400 budget total and you'll have 2 very fine setups!
  5. Had some grubs and pro senkos in green pumpkin/black flake.... did the dye test on them with JJ's chartreuse, dipped for 7-8 seconds. I dipped both ends of each bait to show the thinner, the bait the more chartreuse you see. I also just happened to have the exact dinger you are looking to replicate and included that in the last pic Hope it helps!
  6. member gouger is also interchangeable with certain baits, see example above!
  7. that's the only rage plastic i consistently see on sale and yet i've never felt the urge to purchase one!
  8. Siebert's Dock Rocker is a great alternative to the arky style jig!
  9. if i can think to do it when i get home tonight, i'll test it out for you. even if i don't have the GY senko in that color (which i think i do) i'm almost certain i have some grubs in that color that i could run the same color test on.
  10. there's a lake i fish sometimes that is choked with lily pads, i mean the whole way around it. aside from the obvious frog, there's not a whole ton of other baits that these fish see. i'll rig a senko weightless, but texas rig style, and swim that thing over the pads and through the holes and clean up. i'll usually hit the frog through there first and if no takers, hit the same spots with that senko and sometimes catch the ones that passed on the frog!
  11. nailed it for me, both of those baits are useless in my hands (i know they catch fish, but i just can't seem to figure it out). Boom lures: 5" weightless stick bait (old faithful) bett's spinner blade, 1/4oz jig head and a single tail grub has been killing it on the river for me for 2 years now so that one stays in the boom category!
  12. i had and lost a couple 90's and never caught a fish on them. i decided to snag a 110 a few weeks back and glad i did. it seemed to run a little better and get on plane very easily. i caught fish on it the first 3 outings and haven't used it since. i'd definitely lean toward the 110 as a good all around size.
  13. if you're on a desktop, the only shortcut i can figure out is to right click on the trash can and hit open in new tab, then continue on repeating that. Then open up each of those new tabs and confirm there. Not light years faster, but faster no doubt.
  14. going to be close Kyle!!!!
  15. click on your user name and then click my attachments. on that screen that pulls up, click on the little trash can icon on the right hand side to delete. This is on the desktop, not sure if it'll be the same on mobile.
  16. well done, lots of fun coming up with skirt color combos!
  17. i had some daiwa and shimano spinning reels and sold them all and only have pfluegers now from trions up to patriarch and love them all. the supreme xt i have is just as nice as my patriarch in my opinion.
  18. rage craws and damiki air craws are about all i've been using lately
  19. he's a machine!
  20. Here's a party fowl:
  21. i like it for when i think a spinnerbait is just too much noise and flash, typically when there's more bluebird skies or when there's no wind and the water is dead calm. They're also much easier to target certain cover because i can cast them so much more accurately than a spinnerbait.
  22. No, more so that the fishing is simpler tougher when it's 15+ visibility so I'll make every last ditch effort to get an "edge".
  23. or you can stop giving the fish too much credit and fish the hi viz braid straight to the lure, it will still work! i only worry about a leader for fish visibility purposes if i'm fishing gin clear water. but in middle/north georgia there's not a ton of gin clear to be found. my PB was on a jig in fairly clear water with 40# hi viz yellow power pro. to the point that @Chris at Tech was making, i might not have caught that fish were it not for seeing my line slowly moving sideways, the fish just picked it up on the fall on a good bit of slack line and i might not have caught it had i not seen the line! my #1 reason for using a leader is to break off quickly and easily if need be, especially if fishing in a river with swifter current.
  24. and sometimes some pretty gnarly origami thank you notes!
