  1. well i've never used them at night, but i had some yamamoto single tail grubs in the glow in the dark color that were getting hammered during the day. they do glow, no doubt about it, but they didn't last long enough to see the dark since the fish wore them out during the day! need to restock on those things!
  2. hahaha same thing i thought before i opened it up.... was expecting a pic of a monster!
  3. nice fish and a late happy birthday to you!
  4. can't beat the excitement of a kid while fishing, it's magical!
  5. man there's some big fish on here this week!
  6. that makes a lot of sense to me man, really does. my usual instinct is to just kill it or slow down in hopes that the bass will "catch up" and inhale it. BUT what you're saying makes a lot more sense to me in terms of how the "real world" probably operates down under the water! i think i need to start doing that, much like what @roadwarrior was saying as far as a pop and then continue the retrieve. thanks for all the replies!
  7. they aren't very likely to close nor convert any of the stores, except for only the poorest performing stores. they're buying them so that no matter which one you shop at, the money goes into the same pockets in the end. will more than likely be business as usual at both chains.
  8. that's a nice one there man!
  9. wow chris, those are some nice ones! i've only caught 1 before and yours dwarfed the little guy i caught. the little one i hooked fought like a spotted bass on meth so i can't imagine what those fish must have felt like!!!
  10. i love throwing a hollow body frog in that situation!
  11. went to cabela's last night and found some evergreen baits marked down from like $17 to $7.88 and the squarebill was $3.88 so i had to snag a few to try them out! while there, might as well grab a few other things i had on my list....
  12. thanks but i don't think this is a shaky head jig though. i believe the one pictured is for plastic swimbaits and the a rig. i was using it to attach to the arm of a beetle spin, but really like the screw lock part for threading on a single tail grub and not having to constantly adjust the bait.
  13. with those baits, i'd think the 685cb would be the stick. that 682c might work, but it also might put it at the top of the limit with those baits. i had a 704cb that was good for lighter baits, but like fishballer said almost felt too whippy on those larger sized baits. i'd imagine the 685 would almost be the "goldilocks" rod.
  14. so i was fishing down in Florida, tried a new technique and then this question popped into my head.... was fishing a rage tail menace grub on a weighted swimbait hook and the fish were liking it! some were crushing it, but some were just kind of "bumping" it. i was mostly just steady reeling it in, slightly changing up the pace on my retrieves. so here's the question. if you're just reeling it in like that and get a fish that bumps the bait once or twice, what do you do? Do you just keep on reeling hoping they come back for it? Do you slow down the retrieve to give them another chance? Do you stop the retrieve completely and let the bait fall a bit like a stunned fish? Do you do something completely different than any of the above? Just curious what techniques you might employ and how they work for you.... Thanks!
  15. I had some screwlock type ball jig heads that i really like, only problem is i have no more and can't for the life of me remember where they came from! they may have very well been this model shown below which is a santone screw lock head. wondering if anyone knows of anything similar to this or if i should just drop these in the TW cart and subsequently spend another $44+ dollars to get free shipping? thanks!
  16. what size/weight jerkbaits you talking about? i'm not going to be a ton of help because i don't fish them a lot, but that'll help get you some good answers. although i had a 682C champion that was very good for mid sized jerkbaits and topwater.
  17. me too, it's why i prefer white or something highly visible when frog fishing. once that suckers gone, i'm reeling down and setting that hook!
  18. big game is great line to me, i also like the suffix siege as far as mono goes, but that's used more for moving baits.
  19. agree with all above, very nice reel and the 30 or maybe 35 size is better suited for bass fishing
  20. hear anything back from MB on your inquiry? i sent them one a while back and they responded very quickly and took care of me.
  21. i can't get on youtube from my office and that's where i spend most all my time online. sometimes i'm angry that i can't watch a video or two, but then most times i remember what garbage i watched on there the last time and i come right back to the forums.... probably blocked for a good reason i guess!
  22. any chance you can stand and fish in the kayak? that would obviously help quite a bit. i never flip, but often pitch. i'll do the roll cast as well the majority of the time. another thing i'll do is kind of a sidearm type pitch. i'll hold the line with my left hand on the left side of my kayak and keeping the momentum kind of parallel to the water, i'll move the rod toward the target and then release the bait to get it where i want. i was doing this a lot this past weekend on the river as i would float by a laydown and do this method to get the bait toward the back of the log and then retrieve it parallel to the log to try and pull the fish out from under.
  23. i've got every fancy new fangled high dollar lure just about, but this stupid 89 cent beetle spin has been working on the rivers man! modified a little bit with different head and grub, but that small little colorado blade calls them in for some reason or other! tried to do something similar 2 weeks ago with a little 1/4 oz spinnerbait with a single oklahoma blade/no skirt with same grub, but not a bite. switched back over to the beetle spin blade and caught 3 fish within 15 minutes.
