call lew's direct. you can get just the handle and use your current bearings/bushings/knobs. a 95mm carbon handle from them (handle only) was $32 shipped.
i have an onyx and have no issues with it. i've deployed it twice. once when i dropped it off the kayak into the water, deployed after about 4 seconds or so. once when i fell out of my kayak not too long ago and it deployed within 3-5 seconds of being submerged.
easy to pitch from a seated position with a little roll cast. but to truly flip (as in moving only line, not engaging reel) i'd have to be in the standing position.
that's me too. i have some lure wraps to keep it from scratching the rods, best way to do it and it eliminates those trebles getting buried into everything else along the way!
i'm using a curado 51e casting reel and a phenix recon 2 683c for the shakyhead and i like it! spooled with 15# braid and use the leader type/size of your choosing.
i'd opt for braid myself and would look at probably 40lb as a "happy medium". it's not that you need 40lb line strength either, it's just that the diameter will be better suited for the casting reel. i use power pro primarily, but the suffix 832 is good stuff too, just usually more expensive than power pro.
agree with the above posters. i'd throw it on braid like either 15 or 20lb on that spinning rod and the booyah pad crasher JR is a great frog and not as pricey as others.
also when you go to get that casting rod, maybe reconsider a MH rod in the 7' range. That's what i fish my frogs on and that MH will be much more versatile than the Heavy rod will be.
agree completely with paying the full balance every month. if you're really using this build credit, then simply make your necessary purchases (that you have the money for) and then turn around and pay that off, in full. debt mounts quickly and only gets harder to pay off.
