  1. i'd be stoked to catch a 6+..... i can't seem to break that 6 mark myself. i'm holding at 5lb10oz right now. that said, i'd just get a bunch of pics and put it right back in the water. something close to 10 though i'd be thinking long and hard about the replica mount!
  2. i've always seen them as pricey, but nice if you have the money. one day a buddy and i were getting killed by the wind, but we were determined to stay and fish. i probably paddled 20 strokes for every 1 cast. after a while a guy comes through in a Hobie pro angler and is just fishing, fishing, fishing with no problems. couple kicks and he stays right in place whereas my buddy and i were getting man handled by the wind. on that day, i realized just how valuable something like that can be. i myself have mine fitted to work with a trolling motor too, mostly hands free since it's steering with the foot rests. however, the weight of the battery sucks. i think the weight reduction of the pedal drive is pretty good vs the battery. not to mention, it's a cardio type workout vs the electric motor!
  3. nice catch man!
  4. 1. don't buy everything in every color, every size right off the bat 2. get a 2nd and 3rd job for buying tackle 3. only marry a chick with a lot of money that lets you fish all the time (this would eliminate the need for 1 & 2)!!!
  5. well like many things, there's no standard for what defines "finesse" or "light". 1/4oz bait is towards the lower end of anything i regularly fish on casting gear. many reels may be capable of throwing 1/4 oz baits, but not all are easy to do so with. the alphas makes it a breeze to cast in that range though.
  6. i've sealed a number of mine after using them for a bit. i just hit them with a magic clean eraser and then apply the sealer.
  7. i've tried the swivel hooks, but keep going back to the non swivel version. may just be me, but i feel like my hookup ratio goes down on the swivel hooks. i'd rather tie on a swivel somewhere above the hook if i'm having a lot of trouble with line twist. i'm not dropshot master though, so you might want to take my opinion as a less experienced one!
  8. a friend of mine made one when we were in highschool for a senior research project. he and one of the teachers had to get a ton of local approvals in order to make it fully functional. but he did and it worked! i grew up in Appalachian area of Western, NC and moonshine is still as popular as ever. My family on my dad's side was in the business for decades. My grandmother was the driver of the car as the lawmen would least suspect the girl to be the transporter. Her 12 brothers and sisters and my great grandparents were the manufacturers and she was the delivery driver. There's something about that cold/clear mountain water that's just right for the process! i'm with you.... that said the best moonshine i've ever had was from Boone, NC and was charcoal filtered or distilled whatever the appropriate term would be. it was a grayish brown that looked toxic, but good god was it potent and unbelievably smooth.
  9. i picked up an alphas sv 105 (JDM version of same reel) not too long ago. i haven't really been able to put it to the test like i'd have liked to so i can't give a fully knowledgeable review of it yet. however, right out of the box the thing was silky smooth. i was yard casting a weightless 4" senko with ease. it has the standard line guide which i prefer at this point over the TWS though i only tried that on the original tatula reels. i'd say the only reel setback i encountered on the reel was the short 80mm handle, i swapped mine out with a 90mm zillion handle and it's much better for my gorilla hands!
  10. i love walmart girls!!
  11. gaffy gone wild here
  12. i have the same recon 2 rod, but the 3 power and it's a really nice rod. i'd say mine fits in around the Medium Light range so i'd imagine the 2 power you're selling would be ideal for the lightest baits on the casting rod.
  13. i agree with that, in fact i think the MS mini slammer is on my short list of things to purchase on the next sale!
  14. too cool clayton!
  15. that sucks! i'd have probably gone swimming in 8 feet of water though!
  16. caught my PB earlier this summer on a homemade 1/2oz black/blue jig. The water in this lake is typically very clear, mountain spring fed. Also was using braid, yellow at that, which "i hear" you shouldn't use in clear water......
  17. that's awesome, i'm sure he enjoyed it!
  18. woooooooooooohooooooooooo! nothing like that barely even light out topwater strike! don't even need coffee to get you going if you got that!
  19. quite a few, but definitely: @Bluebasser86 he catches everything, every trip! @kickerfish1 - he might let me fish one or two of those sweet combos he's got! @00 mod - hopefully he'd blindfold me and take me to that Donkey Factory! @Dwight Hottle - for the smallmouth of a lifetime! @Wayne P. - to master the electronics and also the wacky worm!
  20. that was a great game! my in laws are big UGA fans so i watched that one too and that was another nail biter!
  21. I was about the same way, but afterward I was very glad she lined it up for us to go! Really was far better than expected They were very nice I thought. I think they operate a little slower than we do in general which just made for a nice laid back experience. There was little to no language barriers where we visited and people were very polite and inviting.
  22. the food in spain was different to say the least, but it was really good!! i'm sure you'll enjoy it! thanks john, like i said, i'd highly recommend the trip. we had a great time and my wife really appreciated seeing the country that her grandfather and grandmother always talked about. and yeah, i still had fishing on the brain for sure!
  23. i'm a longtime migraine sufferer and just the smallest amount of wine or beer gives me a debilitating headache, but not liquors.... so no wine for this guy, but my wife drank plenty of it and said they were all some of the best wines she'd ever had!
