  1. frog and it was the most fun i had all year
  2. I just bought a couple of used rods and reels from a local guy and feel like i got a good deal on some good stuff. I got 2 falcon cara casting rods, one is 6' Medium and a 6'6" Medium Heavy both are in good shape with some obvious signs of age since they're a couple years old but overall good condition! Along with the rods, I got a Shimano Curado CU-200 and a Shimano Calcutta (i think a 201D). I just picked them up on my lunch break so haven't had a chance to fool around with them much, but am stoked to get home and set them up tonight!! I ended up getting all of this for $180 so I'm pretty pleased! Now i just need to figure out the whole centrifugal brakes on this Curado so that i can set it up for pitching a jig. If anyone has a link to a helpful post or article about setting that up it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. i have a much easier time walking all sizes of spooks and easier time working with the sammy's, but for some reason just having some difficulty with this guy. perhaps you're right about needing some more slack. i know that the last time i tried the bait (last saturday) it was very windy and that didn't seem to be helping me out.... i'm just frustrated by it because of the raving reviews about the ease of use! i suppose practice makes perfect
  4. Ok, I appreciate all the input guys. I believe I just need more practice with it and maybe trying it out on a couple different set ups to see if that makes a big difference for me. I've heard great things about the bait and am looking forward to catching some fish on it! I believe the ultimate answer = USER ERROR
  5. May have forgot that little bit.... Model is TRC66MF so Medium - Fast
  6. That's pretty much why i had to post this topic, every review i've read says it's the easiest bait to walk period. I'm using 14lb mono, 6'6' St Croix Triumph and a 6:4:1 Revo S3. when i was able to walk it (slow) it had awesome action, but just couldn't get the same when i tried to speed up my retrieve....
  7. Thanks for the input guys, sounds like it's almost a personal preference. Although i like the thought of how it comes is how it's supposed to be fished....
  8. I wouldn't get all too caught up in that. Those are just someone's best guess based on the weather predictions which is just someone's best guess
  9. Well one spot you may check is Mountain Island Lake. It's the lake that is between Wylie and Norman on the Catawba river. There's some good fish in there and I've fished it a few times in a kayak. It does get a pretty decent bit of pressure but it's a good place to get some fishing in. One thing though is if the wind is blowing pretty good out there it can be rough for a kayak. Also, I've come across a couple of the guys from the group below. They are a nice group and may help point you in the right direction. http://hardcorekayakfishing.com Good luck
  10. Videos of Butch are unreal Tom those numbers of yours are unreal!! Awesome!
  11. Do you use a snap, swivel, clip, split ring, something similar/different or straight to the swimbait? I'm mostly talking about smaller-medium swimbaits less than 2 oz. If you do what kind and what size? Thanks!
  12. Does anyone have any experience with this bait? I've fished it only a couple of times now, but I'm having a hard time walking it. I have to walk it pretty slow in order for it to not just come dead straight back at me. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
  13. 5lb6oz Baby Bass Pop-R but obviously i have a ways to go based on these posts...
  14. I have a lifetime NC, bought a GA now that I live here and had a 3 or 5 day for Alabama, can't remember now
  15. We will for sure, easily one of the funniest things that I've ever witnessed.... I found the photo of him in the boat after I pulled him in....
  16. Last year I was fishing close to my dad’s house with him and my brother. My brother was in his bass raider and my dad and I were in my inflatable boat. I had built a wood floor and had a trolling motor on it. My dad was sitting in a fold up camping chair and had just got a bluegill that was bleeding a little bit. He leaned over to wash his hands and him and the chair went overboard. I jerked him in the boat by his overall straps and then proceeded to laughing til it hurt with my brother. Didn’t catch a whole lot of fish, or any monsters but I’ll never forget that fishing trip!!
  17. Evidently it's a misdemeanor in NC as well. We went fishing this past weekend for my bachelor party on Lake Fontana and one idiot in the group didn't have his license. We got stopped by the game warden and he got a ticket for $215 and the officers said it was a misdemeanor and would be on his record. I am fortunate enough to have a lifetime license in NC, but even in other states I never go fishing without a license, never worth it.
  18. I use braid on many applications, but I never use it with topwater lures. I find that it always get tangled up in the treble hooks on topwater lures, i assume because it floats, but not certain. i also like the stretch of mono on topwater, this helps because a lot of times i spaz out and jerk at the first site of the topwater crash. With braid i seem to jerk it right out of their mouth, but with mono i guess there's enough stretch that it helps just a touch with hook sets. May only be my personal preference though.... aside from that i like braid for tons of other applications.... powerpro is great, never tried Suffix, but have heard it's better?
  19. lost 2 baitcasters same day..... one was low end bass pro combo, but the other was a brand new Orra SX and mid range rod. long long story, but it involved the kayak, trolling motor, deep cycle battery going overboard, dog, tackle bag floating off.... all previous events mentioned were sparked from me trying to cast and snagging one of the rods in the rod holder behind me (that is one of the rods i lost), followed by the closest encounter i've had yet to drowning.... rods have since been replaced - upgraded is more like it - and i have since retired the thought of the trolling motor and battery on the kayak..... let me say that if there were any witnesses that day on lake oconee they probably got the best show they've ever seen on the water!
  20. i have the speed spool and it is a good reel. i have the 7:1:1 and it's a BURNER, very very fast on IPT. i like it, can't speak for the STX, but they are quite a bit more expensive i believe. i bought my speed spool at Dick's with a 20% coupon i found online so ended up getting it for like $80+tax....
  21. either reeling too fast, not being centered while putting the new line on or combination of the two??
  22. guy comes barging in there with his buddies or himself and intrudes acting like that i may be angry, but will move along and move on guy comes barging in there with his family i say move along and not penalize the kids for their dad being an a**..... fish and let fish
  23. Weather, water conditions, forage, time of day All of these are the most impactful in what i'm throwing. Any low light conditions i'm throwing topwater ~98% of the time, but aside from that I'm gauging the things mentioned above and them making a decision. I myself, like you, bought about one of EVERYTHING (or two or three) and found myself overwhelmed. I then figured out the way i liked to fish and started weeding out the ways i did not like to fish. now i try to limit myself some days so that i'm not spending my whole day tying on different lures. HARD to catch fish if you're constantly spending time in the boat tying on lures.....
  24. The buzzbait turned my thoughts on fishing from slow and boring to fast and exciting, buzzbait.......
  25. I'd have probably just called it quits or found somewhere else to go.... i'd rather the family get a chance for an outing than me, i could go anytime i'd like
