  1. man, it's going to change big time b/w here and there. water was in the 40-43 degree range and fishing was SLOW. only caught a handful, none real keepers. a-rig, rattle trap and jig were the only baits getting bit. Most were caught on the rig, then the trap and lastly the jig. by the time you get to the lake that water temp will be up and you'll find them more active than this week!
  2. one factor you need to weigh in here is that those baits you listed are 100% made in the USA. many of those cheaper baits everyone would like to compare this to would originate in Asian countries where they do not abide by the same labor laws nor copyright laws we adhere to. Many people will pay far more for goods produced in the USA. Let alone high quality, high demand items. It all boils down to preference, but you can't really make an apples to apples comparison between these baits you listed and typicals plastics, cranks, etc.
  3. i would like to throw some soft bodied swimbaits around there and let them flutter off those rocks. something like a zoom fluke or a paddle tail swimbait perhaps. that's just my opinion of course....
  4. check out those ascend kayaks at BPS, they have a really nice 12' SOT for less than $500 and as stated, craigslist is a great option. i'm looking for a yak for my wife as well, about the same situation as you.
  5. very cool! i look forward to reading the article!
  6. agree…. big fish though, no doubt
  7. I recently off loaded a bunch of rods that I rarely used to a member on the site with hopes of buying a new upgraded combo. however some stupid eyeglasses took the funds away. my wife managed some gift card money at work and gave me a $50 BPS card which i combined with my ~$15 rewards at BPS. I used that $65 and put towards a new Shimano Compre Casting Rod 7'2" Med Hvy X Fast for jigs. All I can say is WOW I like this rod for $109!! Super sensitive! I was dragging a 3/8oz jig on the bottom on sunday and could literally feel every little bump in the road. Best part was I was able to put it to the test and got a little bend in the rod before the day was over. Managed to land a nice little 4lber on the trial run! i have it paired with my older model bantam curado which didn't balance it as well as i would like so it's a work in progress, but I absolutely love the rod, may be my first of a few Shimano rods!
  8. not a fan of watching his info shows. certainly not any of them filmed in the food court of a mall..... glad you guys saved me any time that i would have wasted watching.
  9. I used to store mine outside just flipped upside down, never had a problem. although it never got too hot. now i store mine on the wall in my garage using a Rubbermaid Fasttrack Garage Rail and hook. Costs maybe less than $20 and you will NOT be disappointed. that is if you have the spot to store it.
  10. i know, based on the number of boats on any given day it's not secret in the state, let alone this site.....
  11. I would say that I'd like to keep it a secret, but if you've ever been there you know it's no secret. Busiest electric only lake I've found. Goes by the name of Lake Varner or Cornish Creek Reservoir.
  12. nice fish man, it has been tough for me here in middle, ga as well. i've been more on scouting trips than fishing trips with the water temps in the 30s. glad to see some nice fish! can't wait for the steady warm weather!
  13. Thanks fellas, feels great when you've had a couple dry runs to not only snag one, but one of a decent size at that! basshole, supposed to get some sort of nasty stuff today and/or tomorrow and/or wednesday.... who knows. if that whole traffic situation goes down again i'll be looking for a new place of residence before long
  14. So every time I've gone in January the water temps have been in the 30's and I haven't seen the first sign of life. I drove a little further today to find some warmer water (43 degree water temp) on a small electric only reservoir outside of Atlanta. The weather was great yesterday and even if it wasn't, I had to try out my new Shimano Compre Jig Rod the wife got me on Saturday!! I was trying a crank in about 7-12 ft of water and thought i hit a limb on my retrieve. Threw to the same spot and felt a definite nudge on the bait like the fish just "nosed it". I immediately grab the new jig rod with the terminator jig tied on (just placed my Siebert order, can't wait for them to show up). Toss it up to around 2 feet of water and start the drag back and about the 5ft of water mark, was a serious hard thump and then the line starts going! This little 4lb beauty felt like the fish of a lifetime yesterday after breaking my skunk streak! Not to mention when the feed is on this fish will be a chunky 6lber! Can't wait for some consistent warmer weather!
  15. weird, i was logged in as someone else as well just now. i was patbfishing123 for a while
  16. congrats and it would have to be Nemo
  17. i think you'll be happy with your delay! the lake should be much more lively around then. If i do not post back in this thread, PM me anytime after Feb 18 and i'll fill you in on my trip that weekend
  18. you might give some consideration to looking around your school mates for fishing partners maybe even a different but nearby school? just saying that the internet can be a great place to meet up with some weird people.
  19. thanks fellas. loosened that cast control knob and a little finesse got the side plate off. Thanks for all the input!
  20. I have a Falcon Cara Casting Rod CC-4-16M and that is about all I know. I'm unsure how old it is as I acquired it a little while ago in a trade of sorts. Any one have any additional info like possible year model or anything else, i cannot seem to find much on the interweb? Not sure if value can even be discussed (sorry didn't read every rule). I know it is 6' long, 8-15lb test, 3/16-3/8 oz lures. i've used it as a jerkbait rod thus far.. Thanks!
  21. Did this recently and put a dressed treble on the back of a couple
  22. Dick's has a hit or miss supply and then finding your size is unlikely. I did once find a St Croix hoodie there for $3.97 (not a typo that's three ninety seven!!) Online is going to be the best bet for this stuff. Bundle enough together to spend $50 and most every place gives you free shipping.....
  23. Thanks for all the responses fellas! As soon as I get out of this jailhouse known as work I will be backing off the cast control a bit and giving it another go.
