  1. Just ran into Brandon Palanuik at the BPS in Lawrenceville, GA. He had already spoke for the classic (missed that) but was wandering around checking out the electronics. A brief intro and conversation took place leaving me feeling that he's a super nice guy. I had never been for nor against the guy, but after today I think I may be on the for side. He was nice, easy to talk to and seemed really down to earth. Just another reminder they're human like the rest of us....
  2. essentially they already have mercury in their bodies, some with higher concentrates than others. certain algaes then produce higher levels of mercury, eaten by said fish, compounding the mercury problem.... each prey eaten by the predator multiplies the problem, the higher on the food chain, the more mercury..... another hotly contested source of the mercury is from coal fired power.... that's for another discussion, different forum.....
  3. hey man, one other area you might search is ncangler.com there is a good bit of info on that site specific to NC
  4. jason christie he's a classy dude
  5. fair point…. that's beyond my realm of deep diving so i can see the point. also, probably should be said that i'm just a slow person period so my "slow" is like turtle style and my "fast" is more of a moderate i'd say (I drive the same way, as annoying as that is for most) OP, perhaps you think about the 6:x:1 as you could really look to use that as a multipurpose reel. Although the more relevant point was made by jfrancho as he mentions IPT that for me is the definitive marker for the reel speed much more so that gear ratio
  6. being that he said that rod was the one in mind, i was just throwing it out that i felt that was the more important component. looks like i'm on an island by myself with the thought of a higher gear ratio. "treble hook baits" is a fairly wide variety of baits so we can all interpret a bit different. but for me it seems easier to slow myself down with a higher speed reel than to ever try to "speed up" with a slower reel
  7. i may be way off, but the rod is far more important based on hook type than the reel is. reel ration will be your choice based on preference for the most part. I think a standard moving bait ratio is 6:x:1.... i really like the 7:x:1 because i can make myself slow it down, but it's hard to speed it up..... for $130 you have plenty of fine options.....
  8. my only set back on the veritas is that the trigger is fairly uncomfortable.... maybe just be my hands, but it just rubs awkwardly. i would suggest holding one before buying.
  9. Yeah i tried some flouro, terrible mistake.... not to mention it's priced in the mid-range of some of the types of line??? Just picked up some invisx red label, looking forward to giving that a shot.... i wouldn't even mess with it if i were you.... that little 100 yards will cause you more problem than it is worth....
  10. that thing looks purdy
  11. another for the speed spool from your list. although i agree with the curado if you can swing it
  12. my big drawback is giving up my pockets…. i have such convenient and functional pockets on my vest that i don't think i could give up that factor for the inflatable one. also i have to say you brought up an excellent point with the float trip dilemma…. would have honestly never really thought about that until it would obviously be too late! OP, most importantly find one that fits well and you will wear. an awful experience of mine on Lake Oconee has forever ensured my PFD will be on 100% of the time on the water….
  13. my personal experience with PP vs 832 is that PP wins that one every day. i can't say what the scientific reason/explanation is, but 832 will "kink" in the line just from taking your fingers and "folding" the line over. for some reason it just retains shapes or something really well which for me makes it a nightmare trying to cast. pitching and flipping, no problem, spinning gear, no problem, but trying to cast it out on a baitcaster is a miserable experience FOR ME….. I have some left and will likely not even use it or perhaps save for some use later on but do not intend on spooling back up with 832 anytime soon. will be sticking to REGULAR PP from here on… the slick just doesn't feel right with that waxy coating
  14. this was/is happening at the lake at stone mountain park where i've been fishing lately…. more or less making it impossible for my artificial lure to make any appeal while 3-7" shad are dying all around me. although it did give me an excellent look at the bait in the lake so that i could really study it close and try to match some of my lures to the hatch...
  15. yeah, take that thing back and exchange it for something better…. that many problems/quality control issues from the start is a sure fire bad sign….
  16. both of the options above are great choices…. i was up there last weekend with similarly cold conditions and my buddy with me was catching some on a rat l trap…. dark color, almost black with an orange belly….
  17. i guess i'll just never understand the gimme gimme gimme aspect of expecting pay to wear/use/drive/eat??? i just couldn't imagine before each and every transaction asking how much $ i would receive for using/wearing/eating their product…. furthermore if you look closely i assure you there is a logo on more or less everything…. brand awareness/differentiation are one of the many ways sustainable companies keep themselves in business (sounds like your company shirt is evidence of this very behavior)
  18. why do people always ask this???? did the companies that placed those logos on your bucket hat, t shirt and shorts (avatar) pay you to wear them? have you ever thought of the fact that you're supporting siebert outdoors (american company) to print a shirt in the USA. i'd pay Mike and the printers $17 to further them and their businesses than to pay $5-$10 for a plain t shirt from bangladesh that only supported wally world or some giant conglomerate of similar stature. that said, i like the shirts and the jigs from siebert. Mike, perhaps you have a little deal on the site where you can get a discount maybe $1 or $2 off or something if you buy some jigs and add a t shirt to the order? maybe the reverse where if they buy the shirt you throw in a jig or something like that.....
  19. those textured ones look mean! those look good man!
  20. experience skate boarding will have literally nothing to do with standing up in the kayak. width and hull however will play a huge part.... it is not an easy thing to do no matter what your athletic ability and is something you must pratice again and again (easier with warm water)..... that bigger model the 128T is going to be a bit slower than the 12T.... so factor that in in terms of how quickly you want to move and how much water you want to cover....
  21. if my employer were reading..... i'm barely ever on here if i'm being realistic ...... WAYYYYYYYYYY too much time
  22. looking forward to hartwell! pretty close to the house!!
  23. i've caught a couple out of lake juliette down in middle georgia and frankly they about scared the h*ll out of me.... growing up in the mountains of nc fishing mostly for trout makes a longnose gar look like some creepy alien fish.... honestly me trying to unhook that gar from a treble hooked crankbait was probably the visual equivalent of my wife trying to get ANY fish off the hook.....
  24. oh i understand that, i guess one can interpret "won on" a bait one way or the other. just seems a tad "dishonest" if you will for a guy that seems so honest and earthly. that's just my opinion, maybe wrongly…..
  25. he said at the weigh in that it was a lure that livingston gave him at media day
