  1. thanks for the info.... wish i could get 35% off dobyns rods
  2. very fair point.... maybe he's upgrading to the next line of rods....
  3. and just to flaunt my ignorance on the topic i will ask, do these guys have contractual agreements with their sponsors? I mean like a signed lawyer-lingo contract? And i guess i'm referring to the local club guys, not ones seen on TV....
  4. certainly agree, and i can assure you i left the forum without a word as it is obviously his business and not mine since i wasn't buying....
  5. yeah, i'd say that about clears it up...... i certainly wasn't going to interfere with the sale he had going, it just hit me that it has to happen and so i thought i'd get some opinions here.... Kevin's reply really makes sense for me though. I do not and have never fished a tournament so i'm unsure of how that goes and was obviously assuming either free or greatly reduced cost of materials for some of these guys.
  6. So I was cruising another forum site in the "flea market" and ran across something that struck me as odd and wanted to get some opinions on the matter.... I saw a guy who was selling some Dobyns rods at some fairly reasonable prices, but then noticed that according to his signature on the site he was sponsored by Dobyns as well as about 5 other companies. Now my question is this, assuming he either got these rods for free or at a GREATLY reduced price, does it seem wrong or immoral for this person to sell these items given that he is sponsored by them? Now if it clearly stated that proceeds went to a charity or something like that, I wouldn't have even thought about it. BUT considering it seems that he was going to pocket the money, I was curious how others would see that? Thanks!
  7. I have a big noggin too man... bought some costas a month ago and love them.... i will say the frames are actually a little bit heavier than i was hoping for, but with the lifetime warranty i'm sure they were protecting their interest.... can't go wrong with costas in my opinion
  8. not sure of any tricks aside from just slowly picking it apart..... my suggestion though is to practice with some super cheapy mono until you've got it down for practice, then step up to some better line when the time comes to catch some fish....
  9. I'm sure a similar argument came about when they came out with the foot drive for trolling motors, handheld remote for trolling motors, GPS self pilot for trolling motors, etc. Still a kayak, just on a different level in terms of features and price. In fact, I wish it would breed more competition from the pedal drive manufacturers and get someone to put out a quality model that didn't cost about as much as a boat!
  10. Sounds like you're in need of a license! You should really work on obtaining written permission from at least one if not more residents. When you have that and license in hand, return to pond and fish away. If she comes back just show her the written permission letter and then if she decides to call the cops so be it.
  11. bug-eyed piglet right there man!
  12. cool video man. that flooded barn and house area with the stick ups looks sick!!
  13. I have braid on a few set ups as well. i love the casting nature of braid and the sensitivity.
  14. awesome!
  15. you may just have to let the fish tell you, some days i'm whacking them on both..... other days it's obvious they prefer one over the other. if you really want to find out, i say throw the same color worm and same color creature and you'll find out if they prefer one over the other.....
  16. i have a SINK and am trying hard to find me a deal on a used SOT.... then i will pass my current yak on to the wife for her to float the river in.... if you are serious about fishing from it (i mean more for fishing than recreation) i would get a SOT.... the weight issue is only an issue at the ramp which is about 15 minutes of my day.... the other 8 hours or so on the water are CRUCIAL so all the other factors are more important for me than weight.... either way having a second yak would be great!
  17. look for some sales and buy it then. one thing to consider is how much of that lb test you really need.... power pro comes in 100, 150, 300 and bulk spools so just get the amount of line you actually need for that lb test.... personally i don't think there is a big enough difference between the super slick and regular power pro so i'm not spending the extra $$$ on the super slick, but that's just my opinion.... ulitmately you get what you pay for and for those who have a quality rod/reel/lure but cheap out on the line, you're asking to lose fish....
  18. weightless senko or t rigged trick worm, one of these two nearly guarantee you a fish in the boat on any given day
  19. awesome man, now win that scholarship money and find yourself a college with a fishing team.... oh and get a degree while you're at it!
  20. i'm not saying i use it or even take it every trip, but somethings are just too hard to do on a BC setup for me so my spinning rod gets the call from time to time. a weightless senko skipped up under some overhang in a river or skipped under a dock is just DEADLY for me, but trying to do that on a baitcaster just isn't happening for this guy.... i've tried practicing, tried skipping under the garage door, all that but FOR ME a spinning rod is hands down the only way to skip light and weightless baits into some nasty spots where the big ones are chillin. I have a cheapo berkley lightning rod and lew's speed spin (like about a $65 setup altogether) and it does the job. as much as i use it i just can't justify spending $100 on a spinning reel or $150 or so on a decent rod. now the BC setups that I use every trip, yeah i'll spend a little money on them.....
  21. i've actually considered one for my 10' kayak.... that thing is brutal when the wind picks up, so much so that it makes you want to just load up and go home.... Let us know if you get one and your take on it.
  22. nice fish! looks like there are still some pigs in VA!
  23. Well frankly i don't know, it was my first time there and we were at someone's house that i had never been to before... i'll have to find out. I need to determine if the lake is worth fishing for me.... i'm moving to marietta in a couple weeks and it will be the closest lake by far. other than that, i will have to start scouting some new places around the new house!
  24. that made my morning! i'm pairing it up with my regular tatula 100HSL. i didn't want to go overboard on action or power since i rarely if ever toss big heavy jigs or big heavy c rigs or anything of the like
  25. i had the exact same problems going on with my revo s a while back.... i loosened the spool tension and got it off with little to no problem....
