  1. Get a decent set of pliers and put them in your pocket if your not comfortable handling the the fish with your hands. I wouldnt worry about the pliers hurting a walleye, because hes going in the frying pan anyway. I agree with everybody else, easily the best tasting freshwater fish. Ive only caught a few walleye down here, but they are easy to handle with bare hands. Like a few others said, they tend to stiffen up and make it easy.
  2. Agree with alot of folks.. if it is a good deal, then go for it. I wouldnt hold a beef, but i would be wary the next time that the seller is selling something that you are interested in. Pride can sometimes mask it self as principle and get in the way of good things. Good luck.
  3. Two things to consider before your question can be answered. Lure &Weight -whats the average or range of weights you want to throw with it? And how thick or sparse is the cover that you will be fishing?
  4. Double palomar, berkely braid knot. Im just starting to use the snell knot for straight hooks ... havent really had a chance to test it yet. Alberto for line to line.
  5. Heavy windy sucks for the boater or angler, but not so much for the fish. It took me a while to enbrace it. I used to go to unproductive areas to get out of the wiind...boy was i wrong. Im no expert but i think the fish are turned on by the current produced by wind (as well as other factors) i have had much better outings now that i try to use the wind/current to my advantage. And yes it did cause me to start doing things that i was intimidated by before and most of them have worked out for the better. ... im no longer scared of a 1oz spinnerbait, nor am i affraid to cast into the wind for fear of backlashes and theres probably a dozen more techniques and things ive started doing ...
  6. I havent used the Senshi line but all of the Berkely Monos are pretty good. XL,XT, and big game are good lines. Ive used XL and i havent had any problems with it. Not to hyjack this thread as i know it is about senshi and XL but maybe look into YoZuri Hybrid. No experience with it, but ALOT of guys on here LOVE IT and it may give you the best of bboth worlds as far as what you get out of mono and FC. Im gonna buy some and and try it in place of mono at some point. And yozuri is pretty low in cost too.
  7. The Vendetta2 7'3H Mod, may be a "crankin" rod. I thought you meant moderate fast action but that rod is a moderate. Any reason you dont look at the 7'6"Heavy fast Veritas. Its a bit longer than the two you mentioned...
  8. My topwater rod is my jerkbait rod. I kind of like it that way. Like it was said above, I prefer just regular mono for both applications. I also use my frog rod for my heavier topwater baits like big spooks and lunker plunkers. It is lined with braid. Last year i had 8lb mono on the topwater/jb rod, but decided to go up a notch. Topwater jerkbait rod 6'6 M Daiwa T Rod, 10lb Sunline mono Frog rod 7'2- H Powell Endurance 725, 50lb Spiderwire ultracast
  9. Exactly, the slower taper and more parabolic bend will make up for the zero or little stretch of braid and will help a bunch on the hook set. But and XF will work too.. i have filppin sticks with both actions.. the XF sticks, just dont rock the boat when you set the hook..it isnt needed.
  10. Do you plan on using braid, fluoro, or mono line?
  11. Thanks Traaveler, That is some good rainy day info to play with. Ill check it out. It would be nice to layer the topo over the real time map and be able to circle the more probable or likely to be productive spots or docks and then circle them with the google tools and print it and take it along with my maps...
  12. I use google pro on a daily basis with work on different lakes and wooded areas..my question is ...is there anyway you can take the countour lines and topo from something like nav planner and layer it on top of the google image....that would be especially useful..
  13. Jigs - 3/8 and 1/2 the most.. i use a 3/4 alot too just not as much as the first two. Football jigs- 3/4 and 1.. T rigs 1/4 is most used, 1 oz is second most used.
  14. 111#s, thats why Falcon is famous!!! Thats alot of big fish over 4 days.
  15. A 6# in closing mins... wow... he must be drunk on the Zen Juice today.
  16. No. I Dont watch it. Not big on zombies, vampires, aliens, or post apocylytic movies with a combination of either. With the exception of I am Legend... good movie. That said, my three brothers love watching that show.
  17. Good review RW. Price is a hold up here.
  18. I do that alot also when im using spinning gear.
  19. I just saw them on TW a couple days ago. They definitly look interesting. Id like to see tackle tour reviews or a reveiw from an unbiased and credible source. (i am not saying that customer reviews arent credible or reliable, they often are quite helpful) The rods look great too. Def, intrigued.
  20. You can certainly use a heavy jig, but keep in mind, that it is not weedless and in super thick stuff a weed guard is only going to help you but so much. I use a jig often but if its so thick that im pulling weeds out of my jig on every flip or its is constantly getting caught in the weeds, then ill switch to a heavy t rig simply because it is weedless. When im flipping or punching im trying to flip as many holes/spots as i can and standing there jerkin on a jig or pulling weeds off my jig slows me down. The punch skirt is optional...some of the newer guys think that is mandatory ..not so... i use it to bulk up the profile a little... If you have a rod heavy enough to flip 1oz jigs, then you shouldnt have to go get a new rod or anything...just use that one.. I was "punchin" with 1oz t rigs long before i knew i knew about punch skirts and and that it was called punching..
  21. First off, im going to define the word "intrest" more veiwers =more fishermen, more advertising possibilities, and more money for the network, BASS, and the companies pushing products. Sacrificing professionalism and sportsmanship for capital gain in the sport in down right discusting. Thats whats wrong with alot this society.. Since i brought money into the discussion, ill share anothwr opinion, if i was one of Rojas's sponsors, i would seriously call him and ask him if he thinks that kind of behavior represents me well. Im not trying to come down on Rojas, i think he is a phenomenal angler and has done good for himself and his sponsors. I still think he is one of the good guys, and i will still pull for him.... i am simply using this latest example of a pro athlete/ fisherman and bad camera/ interveiw behavior to vent.. Professionalism and class is something that is dying in sports and it makes me sick. Thats my two cents... im now done with this topic.
  22. Im about 2hrs ans some change from you, roanoke rapids nc. I mainly fish Gaston, Kerr, Roanoke Rapids lake. and some times i make it down to Shearon Harris Lake and Falls lake. We have another member, Grayson Collins, hes in the greensboro area too.
  23. LLooks like you had fun,
  24. Thats why i love deer hunting season from october thru last day of december, and nasty januarys adn februarys... im all alone on the lake, zero to very litttle boat traffic. The noise of the rain and stain from winter run off do make shallow water fishin a little easier. No sticking snow down here but really cold rain, wind and some sleet make for dreary days. Its depressing weather but i bet it would make for a relaxing day on the water. Ill be glad when the water warms up about 8 more degrees. Still 46-48 down here...
  25. I have only used the Minn Kota and have no problems with it. It does exactly what its supposed to.
