  1. Spend the majority of your time practicing pitchin. The video above is a good one.
  2. Small 1/32 oz jigs with tiny tubes or grub tails. Anything chartruse or pink has been good to me.
  3. Thats awesome!
  4. If you google bass fishing clubs NC, you should be able to find a few lists. You may need to type in a few different variations but you will find them. Go to local tackle stores and ask. hang around long enough, and you may be fishing in the back of the boat with an old gentleman, ... happened to me.
  5. Im with snakehead whisperer. I clip ALL of my knots down close, except for the snell with braid and still its down to 1/8 or so.
  6. A good rule of thumb for me is 1000 size reels, (shimano standard- using that as a base line) for light action or ML rods. 2500 or 3000 size, for M and MH But you really want to try the reel on the rod while at the store and see how it feels.
  7. Still say wild card. Whats the point of a 500$ rod that now has an incorrect taper. Fixing a tip like that is something I would do to a Berkely Lightning Rod or a Shimano Convergence. other wise, i replace the rod.
  8. Dude, you will be able to line watch. Just try and see. I like that it sinks, you will see it gets hit. But even if you dont see it (night time or not pay attention) you will feel it. Rod power doesnt dictate sensitivity. I have a 7'7H that is the most sensitive rod i own. Try the combo out and see howw you like for pitchin florida cover, if not heavy enough, get a 7'6 H or Extra Heavy next time and use that set up for something else.
  9. After your first fish is caught on that reel with the braid, cast it lightly to make sure you didnt dig in, i say light because if your wail it and it did dig, then you will be picking a back lash. If you cast it lightly and feel where it did dig in, pull the line out, fix it, and then ease off of your drag so then next time when you set the hook and start reeling, your line will come out rather than down tight into your spool. Braid has zero stretch, so it helps to compensate a little. When i said ease off the drag, i mean only a little more than your noraml setting. Drags being too tight for braid is common for diggin. Good luck! Post pics of your swim jigs fish!!
  10. That set up will do fine for light to moderately heavy cover. For really heavy cover i would have gone with a longer heavier power rod. I bet the Helios looks great on that rod! Fluoro is great for pitchin and flipping, the line sink is a good thing, its excellent for slack line, bite detection. (When your bait is falling) Floro is very sensitive IMO. If you werent using braid, id say use try some fluoro line. I dont know how heavy your cover is, but 16lb fluoro is a good start.
  11. Happy birthday Sam.
  12. I may have to do that Jeff.
  13. Ive been luckly, never had a rod to go in the drink, but ive had several pair of sunglasses and a couple of cell phones.
  14. Most of you guys that read my posts, know that I am an avid jig fisherman for both shallow cover and deep structure. I am getting ready to order some jigs for the year, budget of 75 bucks or less. Ive been using Dirty Jigs, Hackney jigs, and BooYa Ajigs. (Mostly Dirty Jigs) I plan on buying Siebert Jigs but I also want to try some of the NorthStar Jigs. I want both, but dont really know which ones from who. I know i want some Big O brush jigs and I really wana try the Flip and Swim and Orginal Swim jigs from NSCB. Buth both builders have a full line of jigs and i really want ALL OF THEM!. Too much to choose from. Im torn and im probably gonna sit at the computer for a couple of hours debating on which jigs to buy from who. I want to get a good taste of both but i also want to be stocked for the year... Any feed back on which ones i should jump to would be helpful...and i am also good with which colors i like and want. Thanks for listening to my silly rant
  15. Sorry to hear that Raider, i hope the job hunt does well. You shouldnt stay out of work long. Good luck buddy. Oh and since we all know thaat you have a little more time on your hands, you better be posting some fish pics!!!
  16. FOr me, Swim jig goes in the same category as spinnerbbaits, chatterbaits, scrounger heads, and hollowbody swimmers. I use 30lb braid on a 7'2MH Powell 723. If the cover is really thick but the fish want a moving bait or the swim jig is hot, Ill tied it on my flipping rods that have 50lb braid and i wont use a leader. Ive never had a problem with braid digging, back off the drag just A LITTLE MORE, than you would for mono for fluoro lines.
  17. Rip and capt bob are both on point, both are great reels. The TP is lighter but both are smooth. Either one will be good on your Savvy. My choice would be the TP, but thats just me.
  18. Yeah, i did. Ive also seen those rods before. My post above was my polite way of saying not to waste money on that garbage.
  19. Cut bait. Carolina catfish rig. Bream halves work well. I dont mess with anything like livers or stink bait. Ill either buy some jumbo minnows or use shad that i can catch with a cast net. To use bream in NC, they must be caught with hook and line.
  20. Save your money. There are plenty of "budget" rods on the market that you can buy that still give great and trusted performance. Berkley Lightning Rod Daiwa Procyon Shimano Sellus Shimano Convergence Powell Diesel Daiwa Aird Abu Garcia Vengence Field and Stream
  21. For spring thru fall, you can get a great value for FROG TOGGS. If you are looking for cold weather rain gear, then i really like the BPS lines.
  22. Wow. Simply amazing.
  23. I bet it was still fun and exciting!! Good spinnerbait fish!
  24. Baits with high vibration. Chatters, spinners, lipless cranks
