Welcome to the board Standard cranking rig thats pulling double duty for other applications (in my mind) is a 6'6-7' Mh Mod. With a 6:1reel. The bigger harder pulling cranks rrequire a lower gear ratio to get the down to max depth. I don't mind 7:1 for square bills but if its an all purpose crankin/spinnerbait rod iI'm going with the 6:1

The fact that he says that reel isn't that old and he wants 150 for it is a red flag. Could be desperate for cash... Could be defective... Could be stolen.... Who knows...go check it out. Call or text him and see if he is willing to put some line on the reel for you. Bring a dummy plug or an old crankbait with u and take a second to cast it across the parking lot.. that's a quick test. For the money u are spending, its not an unusual request.

10 lb mono for most topwater. The frogs and huge topwaters and wake baits are on a frog rod with 50# braid

I don't know if it will happen but I hope to live long enough to see a day when somebody puts a 28+ or a 30+ lb bass in the boat. I don't know if they can get that big in their lifetimes' but I would love to see an American break the record on an American fisherie. Dottie was an incredible fish.

Love that bait pictured above. Looks great I'm like you, for some reason, I stick to the bream, bluegill, sunfish, perch colors. I do pretty good with those patterns.

Between this one and the last one on the subject of braid, it seems there isn't much love for Spiderwire anymore.... Is that the general consensus? I still like the stuff.

Combo arrived yesterday. Did some pitching out in the yard today with it and I can say I am very impressed. Will go fishing this week ans next week and will spend time breaking reel down before I say more about it. But I will say that I'm very happy with my purchase and I expect good things. Combo is beautiful.

I use a Powell Endurance 695, and I like backbone it has. I like throwing squarebills around a lot of cover, and I like the extra power to keep they from wrapping me around dock poles, trees, brush, ext... But the 684 should be a great rod for this too. That's a good reel! Should make a good combo. I'm looking to upgrade topwater and jerbait rods, I've been think of getting 2 Dobyns. Was looking at getting one of each the 684 and 685. But the sale is gone now so ill either wait or look another direction.

Not as familiar with Dobyns crankin rods, but 5 power is what I would want. A 6'8 rod should be a good all round rod for jerks, topwaters, ans cranks. A 6:1 reel would give a good deal of versatility for picking up slack on tops, jerks, lipless, and still is a fairly fast reel which is what I like in a squarebill set up. I'm not as concerned with sensitivity in those rods. I like a graphite rod with a good tip section and mod fast action. It helps with rippin cranks and lipless cranks as well as working jerks and topwaters.

None of the above. Spiderwire Ultimate. Ill buy 832 or slick8 if I see them on sale but SW is what I order in gerneral. Haven't used FX or Daiwa braid. Spiderwire works fine, why fix it... All are good lines.

Not so much one technique, but one or two specific covers: thick vegetation or heavy brush and boat docks!! Punching, flipping, pitching, froggin, ripping swimbaits nd swim jigs through hydrilla is just my thing. I also love skipping docks with jogs, plastics, flukes and square bills. That's my niche, that's what I enjoy most, but still fish alotnof other techniques and diffeent structure like everyone else. Hank parker once said that if u find grass, you will find bass... I just toook it and ran with it. Its paid off

Yes sir! I use their flipping craws, punch craws, big mamas, super newts, and the pirhana swim jigs. They make quality stuff. A little pricey but great action. DM Custom Baits are one of the best kep secrets out their. I'm starting to see more online stores carry their stuff now... But not the full line.
