  1. 400 for a reel is double what I would typically spend...but an antares...heck no...unless I find one for a heck of a deal like I did the CONQUEST rod. The bantam idea is also a good one. different prices but as fat as Shimano Reels, looking at the bantam and the Chronarch 150 right now. Any of yall have any experience with the 2 reels above as well as the Met? What do u think @jbsoonerfan I know u have used most of shimanos stuff at this point I havent ruled out getting another Zillion Sv Tw either
  2. @roadwarrior I would like a CONQUEST reel as a swimbait or deep CRANKING reel tho. They are gorgeous!
  3. Thanks @roadwarrior but I'm looking for a low profile reel. first thought is a new Met.
  4. Just ordered my first Ultra high end rod! Found a CONQUEST 844c on a marketplace page and bought it, and it's on the way now! Lightly used but looks great.. 500 bucks cant beat it! Plan on it being my jig rod. Anybody got experience with these rods? Now gotta buy a reel to put on it... probably a shimano even tho I'm Lews/Daiwa man. Feels like a sin to put a daiwa on a shimano rod..(yes I realize it's a Loomis/Shimano colaboration)
  5. Hey buddy, I would first and foremost check with your parents on what they think . They can probably give some guidance. Secondly check your state and local laws on keeping game fish like that. I've known and seen people do it, however, unless you have pond (at least an acre) I wouldn't suggest keeping bass. Even tho, I think personally it would be cool, I personally dont think it's fair to the bass. Not enough water, space, or any natural food there. Even if you fed him a dozen crawdads a day it just not the same as his natural habitat. Just talk to your folks, look up local regulations and look at your limitations on taking care of fish(es) versus what they can receive in nature. Welcome to the forum. Good luck and stick around you can learn alot here. I dont want to come off as some one crushing your dreams, I'm 38 and i have a boy that is almost 11. I'm just trying to guide you, the way i would for him.
  6. Yes, my rods, reels and line are done either the night before or right before I pull out. But I do have several jigs, swim jigs, arigs, and things like that that I will put the trailers on ahead of time or the night before. Alot comes when I'm in my shop making jigs, or just taking old trash skirts off of good heads and on-hand tying them. I'll also pre rig double fluke RIGS and Carolina rigs so all i have to do is tie on the leader to a swivel. Not big into snaps or swivels at all other than swivel on those two
  7. @Jigfishn10 you can make you own cold brew. I do it in the summer time. Make a pot of the coffee you like and pour in a little ice and the creamer you like... I pour creamer until I get to a certain color that I like my cold brew. Put in the fridge and drink it all weekend.
  8. Preface - I'm a Panthers fan...on a die hard level.. But I've been pulling for the Bill's for a few years now since our old DC (Sean McDermott ) went to yall as HC. And then brandon bean, left carolina to be y'alls GM. Naturally alot of carolina players went to western New York as well following those two men. It's a tough team that's built much of the same way carolina was for a long time, built strong from the inside out, meaning, built strong on the OL and DL, first then with a strong running game and linebackers to stop the run. Honestly I didnt trust Josh Allen out of college..he reminded me of jay Cutler a bit, with a cannon arm and chip on his shoulder, but man oh man, he has developed into a fine top level nfl qb. I also love the defense yall bring. Good luck next weekend! Hopeful to see yall inthe superbowl! Western NY deserves a trip!
  9. Having been in law enforcement for a decade then traveled doing forestry for 6 years... I'm a gas station coffee connoisseur. I'm not picky. At home forever, I bought folgers, got into the black silk for a while. But lately (past year or so, I I have been buy Black Rifle Coffee. It's awesome. I dont drink it black anymore unless I'm in a hurry, now I just use a little French vanilla creamer. That's because my fiance, isnt on this Forum. Krista LOVES it. And she loves Starbucks. I dont care for star bucks. Their Coffee tastes awful to me. I do like Dunkin tho. I could drink theirs black.
  10. You definitely arent wasting our time this is what we as a forum do! I remember when I got into bass fishing 20 some years ago.. spinnerbaits were a mystery to me...could quite catch fish on them. Then one day back in 2011, I was fishing a point (fish were moved back on long points) I was throwing everything in the tackle box that day. I casted out a war eagle screaming eagle which is half ounce but compact like a quarter ounce bait. I remember feeling it hit hydrilla on bottom, I ripped it up and kept it above the grass and slow and steady... next, I hit something and pulled on it...then my rod bent and I knew it was a fish... that day changed it for me with spinner baits. In the past 10 years, I have caught more fish on spinner baits than any other lure period. And that says alot because I am a jig man through and through. I love to skip docks, punch and fish close quarters, but over the years I've been able to dial in the spinner bait to be my most productive lure in most or any conditions. Colors- easy - white, a shad or sexy shad color, or a darker blue gill color. I dont carry many colors. Weight, depend on depth. I dont throw 1/4 any more. I like a 3/8 at bare minimum. I like compact spinner baits. You can always bulk them up with a trailer. 1/2 oz Screaming eagle is still my go to. I like what they call Hitch. Best time to throw it- anytime but, chop on the water is best for me. I think it shines a little more in stained water. The darker water or muddier, the bigger and flashier I go with my blades. Mostly a double willow. I will throw a Colorado in colder water with a heavier head and I'll slow down. Good luck, buy a few and just fish them in the same places you would anywhere else dont be afraid to lose one. My 10 yrs old son used to throw the up on the bank and then gently pull them down into the water, and run the by a dock....man he had out caught me a few times doing that.
  11. It depends on how much u plan to use it. I probably have as many or more Heavy action rods as I do mh.
  12. 7ft? Um no... just a hassle to cast. I'll do 3 or 4 if I'm using a floating worm in places that have some vegetation..but 7...heck no
  13. I always start with about 2 foot and by time I retie a few times it gets down to about 14 lol.
  14. Good Job @Bluebasser86
  15. I have a new @Delaware Valley Tackle custom Rainshadow JUDGE 7'0 MH Mod. Its rated 3/8 to 1oz but so far does ok with smaller 1.5s as well. I like it for all sizes of cranks and lipless. Reel is a Daiwa Zillion Sv TW, 6:1. Personally I'm thinking of buying a tatula elite for thos set up. The sv tw is good but I think I could get more distance out of the elite. Right now I have 12 lb Sniper.. come summer time I'll go up to 14
  16. Kudos to Gary for bringing something that the BFS guys have been wanting! Not for me, but I'm happy for the BFS guys and Dobyns.
  17. 50 or 60bucks. Now work boots are a while different story. If I'm not working, I wear crocs or flops most of the time anyway
  18. All too well, Mr.Bass has caught me with my pants down before and rod out position so he gets 30% of what I should be giving to em... ex fast taper and no or zero stretch line has covered up for alot of technical mistakes.
  19. Same for me as for the ML as a crankbait rod. Like them for tiny JERKBAITS and weightless softplastics like small robo worms. I dont care for glass rods period. I do however like the composite rods. I tried my new Custom Rainshadow Judge Crankbait rod out with bladed jigs. Only caught one bass on it with the jackhammer, but I didn't miss any fish. That rod has plenty of hook setting bbn power and it bent in the middle and kept him pegged while he was thrashing... I'm still gonna be likely to use one of the Powells for JackHammers, but I was made a believer in mod Fast rods with one. For most bottom contact stuff, I'm extra fast all the way. To me it makes a difference especially with a jig
  20. Welcome back
  21. I'm intrigued by all of the AFC matchups. Could go either way on any of em.
  22. There's probably alot that I havent caught. But as far as what we have locally, I think I've pretty most of them in the boat at one time or another in terms of freshwater. One that comes to mind that I know I havent caught Is a freshwater drum. I know there are some in Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Reservoir. I've seen videos of guys catching them when bass fishing on Kerr. Looks like fun. I have never seen nor caught a smallie on the local lakes near me. I have however caught them from lakes on the western side of the state and up in VA on the western side. Walleye are few and far between here but I have caught a few. Good eating. I've caught more long nose gar than I care to talk about.. dang poachers.
  23. Pretty much sums it up for me
  24. This actually very good post and poses a question that sits in the back of my mind sometimes. I have some random thoughts about it. Mastery is term that inthink gets thrown around sometimes but is very difficult to achieve in any aspect of life much less something so debatable, controversial and left to personal preference like bass fishing with artificial lures. Do I believe there are guys out there that have mastered some techniques? Yes I do..absolutely. But what does that mean? It means this person has the what, where, when, why, color preference, weight, retrieve speed, and adaptability to change on the go much like a wide receiver running an option route..I think a master of a bass fishing technique would have ideal fishing gear set up specifically for that technique and a back up combo that varies slightly to accommodate changes that they need to make. In a sense, a master of a technique cant just be a guy who is great at this one thing with it all figured out, to me a master (and I hate the word master by the way) is someone who is innovated in their craft, ever charging forward, making changes, improvements, and is consistently finding more efficient ways to do way they do. Example, look at Gary Klein, not only is he a jig flipping fool, he is designin jigs, and constantly pushing the industry standard. But let's go back to basics real quick. To even get to that level in one technique, this person should have solid if not excellent basic fundamentals. I honestly dont think I have mastered anything, I try to stay really balance but there's a couple things that are my bread and butter and I try to tend to those and keep my production and efficiency up. Very interesting topic But to answe the original question. How do you master anything? Time spent..practicing, studying, and taking advantage of every resource you can to get better.
  25. I'm sure there is some small effect on bass, probably mainly on smaller bass or just in competition for the small food sources like bream and crawfish
