  1. Maybe one of the crappie reels. I like a 4500 series Abu C3 reel. I'm not sure how well that would work. See if you can get your hands on one of the JDM reels or a 50 series Shimano for cheap. My logic- the JDM reels or and reputable 50 series equivalent is small and super reliable. Maybe still to big for his hands but he will be learning a reel that is reliable and not for being any easier reel to cast ans to learn on. Logic on the associated prices with said reel- you get a sweet reel out of the deal.
  2. Good thing there wasn't a pothole, or ANYTHING like that... That would have been a much sadder video
  3. Hate it for you bro. That's why I love that I live in a neighborhood full of older people. All you can do is raise your children they way your supposed to and hold accountable the children that come over. If the kids that come over cant follow the Raider family rules, then they can't come around. You are handling this right. Just hang in there.
  4. Wow. I guess his voters never had a one on one conversation with him. Too much LSD back in the day
  5. I tried to get away with that answer and I was told to let it flow... So figured I would humor them.

  7. Don't really have one favorite.
  8. Most of the time, my rods and reels are on a rack in the garage, but if unjust back from fishing this evening and plan on going again in the morn, ill leave them in the boat
  9. Great rods. I have 2 of them!
  10. Ideal fishing conditions: 1) I'm off of work 2) I have gas in my boat, or a few bucks to get gas. 3) I have at least 2 hours to fish before a scheduling conflict 4) There is not an on going thunder storm at or near my local lake 5) I am not deathly sick or in the Emergency Room 6) Do not have a member of my household that is in the Emergency Room 7) It does not interfer with church 8) It is not Superbowl Sunday 9) there are no weddings or funerals of immediate family or close pals on said day
  11. I said that too Ghoti, and I rationalized to my self why I should up grade on my upgraded rods.. .. Good luck my friend. Just stay away from the swimbaits. Addictive and expensive.
  12. First off, a mag heavy rod is another term for extra heavy or in some cases, in between heavy and extra heavy. I use a floating hollow body frog or mouse in some areas where I simply cannot use a typical topwater lure that has treble hooks hanging down causing me to get hung up. This is where these hollow bodies come in. The hook is facing up on the top side so I won't get hung. Thet float also giving me the opportunity to work it very slow if needed. This is where the heavy rods come in. If the cover and vegetation, slop, or whatever is so thick I can't use most conventional lures like spooks, buzzbaits, flukes, or whatever... Then you are gonna need a lot of backbone to set the hook and drag in a fish that from the strike is trying flee in a garden of hydrilla, milfoil, pads, hyncith, or thick brush....watever the case may be. This case senario is why I I choose the rod by he cover isfish ssaid lure in. Like I said above for fairly clear water and little cover. A mh will be fine
  13. Powell 714, Powell 764. Can be had online for 150. Very nice rods.
  14. My 05 Ford Explorer pulls my 20' Javelin. My transimission is holding up but I can tell where it has taken a toll on it.
  15. Just depends on what type of cover if any. From what you described, ill toss rage frogs and such on a mh rod, if its clear with little vegetation. I do that becuase it just loads easier on a lighter rod and especially in clear water that you described, a longer pitch or cast may be necessary. On the mH rod I spoke of, I have 30# braid on. As for hollowbods and thick cover, I like a mag heavy rod.
  16. Have fun with that. I catch a few big swimbait fish on a magical day when the stars line up and then for the next few weeks I'm spending excessive amounts of time swimbaiting and foregoing other techniques and spending money on swimbaits and more gwar to toss them on. It takes q few skunk days to bring me back down to earth.
  17. Not going to get into WHY our society is the way they are. That would be me touching on two forbidden subjects for this forum. I will say that I agree with everyone, it is everywhere in almost every aspect of our lives. A lot of people are more respectful than we give them credit for, but they do get caught up and lose sight sometimes. A lot of times in the orginal posters case, he could have just said something to the guys and they probably would have apologized and moved on. Ive had the urge to launch a Zara Spook at people before but it is better simply to turn the other cheek if you are not prepared to respectfully and gently tell them that they are out of line and in the OPs case " hey guys, you cut me off....I'm fishing here... But yall can come back to this spot when I move". Rant over.
  18. Abu garcia actually has launched more round reel line up in the last year or so. I don't ever see round reels going anywhere
  19. Abu Garcia Record reel. 20 lb mono and a Ugly Stick. Fished for Stripers long before I started fish for the green ones! It was my dads rod and reel, but I still have it today 17 years later..
  20. For 100 bucks of my hard earned money, the dang rod needs to be 100% perfectly constructed. I don't mind a ding or something in the cork, but the guides and reel seat need to be 100% correct. A lot of guys on here will look down on 100 dollar rods as if they aren't worthy, but lets not forget for most of us, 100 is a day or a half day of work. 100 bucks is a lot of money ans the product needs to exemplify that You are not expecting too much. Send it back till they get it right. And if you experience more headache, look at a diff brand next time
  21. Probably around 200ish. Biggest being 6.62 went all the way through March with out a fish over 4lbs. Caught several in the low 5s in the past two weeks. Proudest accomplishment is having a new 16 year old fishing partner that has caught over 100 bass this year with me and has a PB of 7.13 lbs in his second season of fishing. He caught the fish by skipping a 1/4 homemade jig of mine under a thick bush into the back corner of a laydown. When I seen the lure placement, I actually clapped and said, " that's how its done !, you catch a fish there" .... And he did... If I don't catch another fish this year, I am happy and content with knowing that I've taught a young man this sport and that he's learning something that will give him a life of joy.
  22. Happy Easter! Yall take a day and spend time with your families and remember the reason for today.
  23. Good flipping or punching bait.
  24. That's a good question. Maybe Maico or someone more educated in round reels and the larger low pros will chime in
