  1. The new ones are nice too.
  2. Way outta my price range but I have an older powell endurance 702 with an even older stradic 2500 spooled with 10 lb braid. I use it for alot of hard and soft jerk baits. I also have a daiwa tatula6'6 medium ( one of the first gen) , *** 2000 with 8lb mono.
  3. It seems like 6 or 7 years ago, 7;1 was a super high speed reel. And 4.9 or 5 was the low end... now we are told that 7 is in the.middle and 8.5 is the top.. who knows... I'm still using Alot of my 6.3:1 reels and I dont really care for a rod longer than 7'6" I dont have any answers. I'm just sticking with I know works.
  4. Your HOA wont let you fill a parking space with a boat on a trailer? Any friends or family that have a place that you could park it? Hell my neighbor uses his driveway for his boat and he parks in the street lol
  5. Those seats are SLICK! looks really good man! Now you can get back to posting pics of big green fish!
  6. Sweet boat! We have a rule here, any Virginia residents that buy new boats have to take me out fishing with them! ? jk Pic doesnt show a trolling motor or seats. A pedestal and seat or bicycle seat is something that makes a long day easier. I recommend getting some affordable electronics and a good trolling motor. I typically replace the stock cord on trolling motors with a small gauge steel cable. That way you never have a problem with a cord breaking. Make sure you have all of your state required equipment. If you dont have a good battery charger and whatever drop cord, get one. Rods straps or some sort of way to secure fishing rods is a must if yours doesnt have a rod locker. Double check for a bilge pump, get one if needed, they arent expensive. I make sure to install/or wire in a cigarette light plug for my phone charger - that's not a need- but its convenient.
  7. About half of the time for me pitch skipping is what I do too0... kinda of a back handed pitch and I end it with the rod tip kinda high, this gets you a little extra distance and lands the bait a little softer. Took me years to stop the back lashes and stop the loud splashes. If you are passing a dock and it is on your right, you can use that back handed pitch skip to get to and past the piers on the back side as you are passing it. Then on the next dock on the front side, it's kinda a front facing side arm deal... I saw a video of a young guy trying to teach how to skip, he goes through talking about it really fast, but if you key in in his mechanics, they are flawless. I'll find it and post it here. Watch "MASTER THE BAITCASTER! How To Skip Baits" on YouTube He starts with the actually skipping around the 8:30 mark. I dont agree with everything he says, but watch his mechanics. Dude is good.
  8. A 6-3 mm would def work.. it would prob load up great, but dont lose track of what you wana do with the rod. If you are gonna be using it for skipping lures, keep in mind where you are gonna skip the lures, and what lures you are trying to skip. If you are gonna be skipping under docks, under bushes, into and between limos and lay downs, you may want to think about a MH. If you are thinking about jigs, t rigs, and flukes, I'd stick with a fast action. I'd practice it with the rod you are using for it now. Heck, i can skip with my 765 rod and it's a broom stick except for the last 3 inches in the tip. It's all in the wrist If you have a 6 - 8 rod, try it, start with the tip down and just focus on keeping lure low and level. I havent used the ALX rod that Tom suggested, but a 6-9 my like that would be super easy. If I'm on a dock bite, I've been known to grab my 683 and use it as a back up or for a different color alternstive... It being shorter, it helps and I can wind back a little more with out touching side of the boat I've had no issue with either type of breaks. I will set tension a little looser than normal tho, just loose enough that the lure falls fairly quick when I release it. For the OP, I agree with Tom, dont use floro if you arent used to it when you start learning to pitch and skip It will be a nightmare.
  9. It's easier with a shorter rod if your new to it. Key is , practice! If helps me to turn the tension down and io the breaks just a hair. But to each their own. There are videos of it on you tube.
  10. Heck yeah!
  11. If you were gonna be at 3/4 - to 1 ALL the time, I'd say step up to a Heavy. But if you are gonna be consistantly be in the 3/8 to 1/2 range, you should be fine using the high range weights every now and then. Just make sure to get a MH rated for up to 1 or 1 1/4. To be on the safe side. Most mh are rated for up to 1. There are some 6'6" - 6'9 heavys out there if you feel the need to step up.
  12. Improved clinch knot
  13. Wow! That's a FAT fish! Congrats to Mr. Dunham.
  14. JB it looks pretty good. Dont beat your self up. Smile, you will be back catching fish soon.
  15. @WRB its helped over the years if I'm using my.left hand for off hand/ free hand shooting, batting left handed, and casting left handed to squint or close my left eye, so I'm getting the whole picture from my right eye.. it works for me. But like most people who's hands and eyes arent on the same page, I'm reasonably ambidextrous.
  16. I'm right eye dominant too. I had a lot of work to do on the range at the police academy 18 years ago. But now it's second nature
  17. Hey guys, I was looking through TW and it Lews makes a rod thats pretty close to an old school pistol grip. The Lews Custom Plus line up has a 5'9" MH. I checked lews website to make sure The 5-9 wasn't a typo The Lews website calls it the target casting special. It appears to have a shorter full grip handle, no pistol butt end, but it does have a trigger. I'm tempted to order one and see if I can make it into a dock skipping rod. I'm sure it would be a good spinner bait or square Bill rod.
  18. Welcome! I'm weird, I'm left handed but i do a lot of.things right handed. I shoot and carry firearms right handed. I play softball left handed, I bat left handed but i can bat right handed as well I fish right handed almost completely although I can pitch either hamded . If my.target is in front of to my get I'll go right handed, if it's to my right, I'll either switch hands, or use the back handed pitch its taken.a lot of years pf.picking back lashes out and pulling down limbs to retrieve lures. Practice practice
  19. Is the Hudson a xf? I'm not sure if changing rods is the answer. What type of line and jobs are you using. What is.actually going on to miss fish? Are.you whiffing on them or are they coming off?
  20. Tie direct. No swivel needed. No issues from straight braid.
  21. 4000 size reel is a bit big for my taste but that setup will do. Good luck.
  22. Welcome
  23. Years ago, my boat at the time didnt have a live well, I would use a shad barrel. ( live bait tank made from 35 or 55 gallon drums) theres info all over the web how to make one. That's a good alternative if you dont want to fool with the existing cooler in the boat..( I beleive that's what that was meant for) bonus on shad barrels is you can build one or have them made fairly cheap. And you can take it in and out of the boat. Or, you can simply plumb a s pump and recirculate to the cooler
  24. What size are you throwing, the 110? I'm loving this lure. I love the 110 and 130 size. Typically I'll throw the 130s on a 4 power rod. 110 size is what I throw the most a powell 683 and lews tp 7:1. I have quickly tied one on to a 723 powell endurance, with same reel. Generally I think you can stick to a Medium rod, or even MH for the 110. The 130, start thinking about a stouter rod.
