  1. I dont get enough line twist Texas rigging to worry about it. Pegging the weight closely helps some, but like in said its never been so much of an issue that I have to worry.... only spinning tackle is it aggravating. Braid takes care of that.
  2. 1/8 - 1/4 is what I use most of the time. There are times when I "bubba it up" and I'm tossing a 1/2 or 3/4 ounce football with magnum size worm on it.... I fish it then same way. But for all intents and purposes 1/8 and 1/4 are all he needs. He could possibly split the difference and just buy 3/16 If he can find em
  3. Endurance 683 6'8 MH. I use it for topwaters, jerks, and as a skipping rod. I really wish I had 2 or 3 of them
  4. Length is a personal decision but I use a 7'3 Heavy extra fast. Powell 735 Like @jbsoonerfan said, I could get away with a M or MH but I have to assign the rod according to the cover I'm throwing too. So I have the Powell 735 with 65 Daiwa J braid and a Lews Tournament pro 7:1. There are days when I feel like shorter rod would be better. But they 6-9 to 7-3 range is where I would stay. Itsnmy dedicated frog and heavy top set up, but if you are on a budget, make dang sure you buy something that fits alot of things that you do
  5. Kerr lake here in NC or BUGGS ISLAND as the VA folks call it, has been getting a rep then last few years..and it can be a very frustrating lake to fish... but I've seen a buddy of mine easily go over 30 lbs in his 5 best about 10 years ago. I think alot of it is just from people who don't spend alot of time there and then have a less than great outing. A local tournament past week was won with 14 lbs.... but it's also mid july... it happens.
  6. A 7 inch hammer on a 1/2 ounce under spin worked well yesterday. Caught 9 in 3 hours in 12- 18 fow, working deep flats adjustment to a main channel. Powell 723 rod. 2 of them were over 4 pounds easily. I hate deep cranking I try everything else first. I didnt get bit on a 1/2 once trap yesterday, but stroking ior straight retrieve on a trap is a primary technique this of year
  7. Dbomb is a one of my favorite flipping baits or punching baits. They are aggravating a jig trailer but perfect as a HEAVY t rig with a straight shank hook for flipping. John crews has pretty good.luck with them too!
  8. I have 2 powell 723's. Their power ratings are similar to dobyns..(Gary dobyns had a part in Powell's rods) i can say that my powell 723 will do well with sqaurebills. It's a lighter power rod so that works in your favor and makes up for a faster action. Cant go wrong with that rod.
  9. For the 1 to 4 oz range, I've been using my striper rods.... I have 2 - 7'6 H duckett inshore rods... hey it works for me. They can be found for 75 bucks, they retail for 139.00
  10. Brett Ehrlers 7'4 mh crankin/bladed jig rod. It's a glass rod too
  11. Daiwa tatula 6'6 M f Daiwa tatula 6'3 M f St.croix legend tournament 6'8 m f St croix legend tournament 6'10 m f I would add those to the list I use a powell endurance 6 8 medium heavy. Endurance 683 Add the major craft ms 1 7' medium f to the list
  12. For me wind, clarity, and profile size... I keep a double willow tandem tied on year round. I keep some sort of jig on year round.. just one if those things I'll figure out on the water. Same thing with a soft swimmer, all three are attempts to mimic a baitfish... I like the soft swimmers and swim jigs on super slick water
  13. I think they still have a decent cult following, but one of my secret baits that lack popularity these days is a 3" tube in either black/blue or green pumpkin. I like to skip them under trees and docks. Not many baits skip like a tube, I get lucky and am able to zip that thing in some tough spots...some times when they dont want the jig or a rage bug, the tube is the ticket.
  14. I think mine was silver. I had a daiwa excellor too... it was a great reel as well. Hard to be daiwa even on the cheap stuff.
  15. I had an old dawia Laguna that was 50 bucks... that little thing was awesome. Whoever broke into my shed a few years ago wanted it more than me... thank goodness all my good stuff was locked up inside the the boat.
  16. War eagle Screaming Eagle. In spot remover or sexy shad...whatever they call it? it's a 1/2 but same size as a 1/4. I throw it year round.
  17. They still have the zillion and steeze reels if you need a change.?
  18. Undeafeted in regular season and tournament. Finished the last game batting 1.000.
  19. Finally broken down and got a new to me truck last August. I had to argue with myself over bigger truck to haul 20 foot boat or fuel economy to make 1.5 hours to work on way.
  20. I think the tatula sv will be alot better than the reel that I have on mine... those things are made to SLING light lures... so should be a killer combo.
  21. I got that same rod a few months ago, I may or may not have talked @AmmoGuy in to getting his. ?? I use it as a back up for everything. I pitch and skip jigs with it, I throw big topwaters, frogs, wake baits, buzz baits, spinner baits, and even soft swimbaits. It at it's best as a bottom contact rod.. but does all those things well. I honestly think 3/8 total weight is the sweet spot. But I can flick a 1/4 oz lure too... its just a beefed up version of the MH. Look at sportsmansoutfitters they may still have it in stock..do a thorough interweb search and you can probably find it for as low as 110 like I did.
  22. Oh ok... at least you tried. I just recently started using them myself.
  23. Does @Siebert Outdoors make a hard head or swinging jig head
  24. 1.Green pumpkin. (Far away the leader) 2.Watermelon /red (close second) 3.And the Morning Dawn and Aaron's Magic colors are becoming my favorites in any water clarity. Honorable mentions- occochobee craw, June bug, blue saphore/ black, red shad, pumpkin seed, and motor oil when I can find it. But like catt said, depends on the worm.
