  1. 20-25 big game. I have thrown smaller ones like 1 oz on 16 lb SNIPER floro and it works ok.
  2. I'm still throwing the double fluke rig...great in the fall. I have even modified it a few ways.. I also been throwing baby brush hogs on 3/0 1/8oz weighted hooks for aboutn15 years... great on a spinning rod and 10lb braid.
  3. I'll second that... this is the first year I think of that I've had a chatter bait on ALMOST (not all the time, but almost) typically a black or green pumpkin color jackhammer with painted blades. It has not replaced spinnerbaits or soft swimmers for me, but rather compliments them
  4. I'm with him... just use whatever meat u need to get rid of. DO NOT USE GOOD BACON. I'm pretty sure there's some old testament penalty of death for that.
  5. Yes, 15 years ago I would have said 1/4 but.3/8 is where I start now. If it's a super slow bite, I may go down to a quarter oz. 3/8 takes up most of.my 4 jig boxes. My.next.weight is.probably a 1/2 with 1/4 being third. I like the 3/8 with the best...Has a quick fall, and loads easily. Just gotta keep in mind that when you are skipping, you do not have to sling it as hard with slightly heavier jigs...the weight and momentum creatures a good deal more energy off of the same effort...if nothing else, dual it down a notch. Thst s.prob why u had some backlash with the 1/2 oz
  6. Arky style jig with a beaver style trailer skips like a dream. I can skip dang.near any type of jig with even a swimmer on it... but if you want a good, easy, effortless, and quiet entry, something flat and wide.
  7. Most of my rods 5hrow multiple things, except my jig rods... they throw jigs. I always have some type of jig on a rod. Period. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200$, gone straight to Jig
  8. Dont know about the Fitzgerald rods... but i have a 7'1heavy in the regular tatula. It doesn't have a super soft tip, but it's great for 3/8 to 1oz lures. Butnits not what I would call "too heavy of a rod The. 7'6 may be completely different, but i think you will be fine with the tatula elite. When I retire my Powell 775 I'm may look at them too... that or the BLX or rebellion line .
  9. 18 inches to 2 feet. I've never really seen a big difference in the long 4 foot leaders. Also when it's short, I can still pitch it to shallow cover if needed... its bulky but it works good as a pitching technique in a pinch. It has bailed me out before when I broke off a t rig rod and had the same lure on a c rig rod. Pitch it in there and get the same bites. That 18 inch leader really shines in light grass.
  10. Man if that's the case, you can always go tackle warehouse. I think they will let you try the product first.... I'm not sure how it works but I think @A-Jay does. Pm him...I'm positive he used their trial program before.
  11. Dude.... check your line after every cast... if I'm fishing rocks, brush, or any thing abrasive....I retie often. Most of the time, If I stop to take a smoke break or snack break... good time to cut, and re tie... there's no consequence in being too careful. I learned the hard way ... several times
  12. I like them alot... I'm sure they are compensated by several different sources to do what they do... kudos to them to find a to 1. Fish all the time, and all over the country and even in mexico. 2. Fish with top gear. 3. Test and review fishing gear. 4. And take the time to teach anglers to fish. Like I said, I'm sure they have created capital from their channel and for what they bring to the world. I'ce seen them favor certain brands over others...i.e. shimano..then fish with Daiwa and sing itsnpraises. So it seems as subjective as they can be. Probably my favorite non profession or non tournament anglers. Mikey Ballz is pretty good too.
  13. I sure do miss that guy on here.
  14. I think from the last thread I read about the. ARASHI is that most guys called them decent. That was the consensus. No overwhelming majority loved them or hated them... most said they were solid lures. Arashi does have a unique action to it. And they have other favorites like the typically.less expensive KVD SB. I the OLD LC 1.5s have a good following here as well. I like them... always have been one of my favorite big square Bill's. So for 4 bucks. I bought quite a bit. Ollie's also had LC staycee, LC bevy shad, lc gunfish, the LC rattle trap, and alot of the big 2.5 sqaurebills, and pointers and pointer dd..all the LC stuff and under 6 or 7 bucks each. I stocked up....alot
  15. Mine did too, also had a bunch in lucky craft stuff. I bought more than a dozen square 5s and half dozen of the flat 7
  16. U can get by with that mh, I suggest a heavy. But you definitely need to throw some heavier line on it. If mono, at least 20lb if not 25. Go with at least 40 -50 lb braid. I have thrown frogs with 20lb floro in a pinch but would rather have braid. Mono has alot if stretch, hard to slam those two heavy hooks homenwithn12 lb mono.
  17. Mine stays in the right storage opposite of my rods... in the event I think I need it, it's as simple as dropping to one knee open it and get it out while I'm keeping pressure on the. Fish. Only takes a second, once I get it out, I leave it out until I turn big motor on. I do tend to get it out sometimes ahead of time if my son is with me....he.is my net man
  18. My javelin still has a factory installed flasher in the dash
  19. Most of.time mine dont get used. Just snap a pic and let her go!
  20. Same spot I'm in, if want something in future with similar action I'll look to the dobyns, daiwas, megavass or even custom stuff. But im happy with my gear.
  21. Dang didnt you just get that boat and set up? Trolling motor and stuff.was new right?
  22. Pay no attention to Powell's web page. Look at the tackle warehouse and other stores.... I dont know why its webpage prices are showing high then marked down... and you go to dealers that carry them and they sell them for the "markwd.down" price. I love the old powells I currently have 9 of them...but I dont but them any more... the product isn't the same and I dont get the pricing now. Before it was easy to get Bryan on the phone, I called 5 times in last 18 months and cant get him on phone... just.somone giving me a line... so I choose not to buy them. I called dobyns 2 times and get gary on the phone twice I dont have to speak with the boss, just some who knows what they are talking about. I like my powells and I still search the web for old ones... just dont know about the direction the company is going. My money, I can decide where to spend it now
  23. Or suspend dots
  24. Gary Dobyns helped get Powell Bass rods off the ground then he got his own line up. He had alot of influences on Powell
  25. I'm with Tom on the light line. I like using 8lb line and spinning gear. I use live shad and nose hook them...if I need to get deeper, I set it up like a split shot rig. I use small hooks just big enough for the shad to carry it #1 It is a different skill. But it's still fishing so alot of the same things apply And in the heat of the summer it's great tactic for night fishing. It's also family friendly given spinning gear and you really dont have to choose the right lure and the right way to "work" it. My son loves fishing with live shad at night. We have caught some toads like that. Good for kids to learn how to fight a fish on light line too
