  1. If you are using a paddle tail, I think you turn it upside down and it will help. Also, try one a little heavier. @Bluebasser86 maybe has some tricks
  2. I love fishing decent equipment with modern advances as much as most...
  3. Gear has gotten better...but bass haven't changed in 30 years.
  4. From Mr. "Good night irene" smh
  5. Y'all are getting side tracked away from the OPs intention for the post. I agree that new reels and new rods are amazing. But the original idea of the post that some of the biggest bass we caught on older and heavier rods and reels...rather than the new ones. The point was not to elicit what is acceptable on other sites or that other anglers have caught monster bass using new tech. The op is a very accomplished angler and shares alot of good knowledge that has helped alot of us.... his post wasnt to start a debate

  7. Good grief man..out with it already
  8. The point of the post was that guys are focusing on top end gear with new tech and that alot of the big bass we caught on old school gear. As fisherman, and I mean me specifically, we need less focus on top end gear and more focus on finding fish.
  9. I dont think you are hijacking at all, I think @jbsoonerfan wanted to how y'all would rig them out. Only took me a few minutes... but I was hard Cuz I have only fished with 2 of those rods... so i had to go by spec only... having fished with them would make it easier for someone to go through the list like I did
  10. @jbsoonerfan you could try that cumulus as a PRIMARY Jerkbait rod, especially if your like me and like throwing the heavier jerkbaits... since its on the soft side... also try some big 2.5 squarebills with it. But it still may be too fast.
  11. I didn't put anything for the 3 6,10 zodias rods...can tie on anything I could be super wrong.... but looks good on paper....you have alot of rods.. I started to do it as if I was rigging them for me to go fishing tmw.... it's just weird for me, Cuz I've I'll only fished with 2 of those rods
  12. One more question and I'm done... how does the cumulus and experide compare as far as sensitivity
  13. Which ones are spinning What line types focus typically use
  14. Ok I like this project... I'm gonna have to write these down on paper and match them up with techniques... gonna take some time... I'm excited... pretty fun project. I might do the same with my rods just to see if I'm thinking right. So if I take this seriously and give you a full response of what I think... u gotta do same for me, JB.
  15. I still got a stock of the Lucky Craft LV 200 and they are 5/8. They are my favorites. I think they are 3". Its a little compact for its weight. I love em. Like most above said I throw some 3/4 oz. But mostly 5/8 or 1/2. The 200s seem to match the bait fish size pretty good in the late summer and fall and I can stay deeper with them. In spring time I like the smaller ones,... k lipless cranks are a staple for me in the fall during.. I can cover water, and they larger ones mimic the larger shad that made it thru the year. Ollie's has been selling the Lucky Craft lv 200 and lv 500 dirt cheap. If u get the Lucky craft lvs, put new hooks and hard ware on them. The ones I got from Japan were good to go.
  16. I use some smoke/white jigs that I put together too... it's a fall and winter jig for me... deadly during the shad spawn. White or sexy shad pattern can be very good on a football jig. During last winter, I used a football jig white/smoke with a smoke color drop shot bait as a trailer and got a lot of fish to hit.
  17. I can agree with the OP, as far as function and getting what I need outta of a lesser value reel. But I agree also with Tom, the higher end reel will hold value for years to come...but if I'm on a budget and just need to get on the water, I'll buy value reel over a value rod... but I I have to buy the right value reel, they are not all created equal. I can still find reels like Tom has been selling or old citcas or older daiwas. I'd buy used older stuff that holds value over some of the 50 dollar doyos... but like the OP said, I have a good technique and a trained thumb, I could make it work.
  18. Yep I've gotten wet to save a 50 dollar swin bait. I've also gotten wet to save a 9 dollar crank bait.
  19. The xxx are the ones I'm so intrigued with. I like the shorter rods with heavier actions...and they seem down right specific... with the new yak, shorter rods are what I like too
  20. I fish the thumper or cutter worms either t rigged or on a football head. I use a quick drag on the football head. Also in that situation u can use hardbody swimbaits.. I like the smaller ones. Heavy spinner baits are one of my go to presentations year round in deep water
  21. Skipping under docks with a spinning outfit isn't horrible.... I just think about getting the fish out if they hit, a extra fast tip, hard hook set and a 10+ plus lb test. You gotta be cognizant to of the fact that a fish with try to wrap you up, so u gotta be alert and get his butt out a there. That hard to do with light line if anlunker hits. I still do it, I skip shakey heads alot...
  22. That's pretty impressive. Answered alot of my questions right there. The rods rear you have 2 or 3 of are the ones I had the biggest questions about...glad to know i was half right @Logan S have you had any of the xxx . I like their price but if it's a big step down, then who knows
  23. Ok. So I've be intrigued by these rods for a while and I enamored by their huge following but even more but their very distinct lengths, actions and design intentions. Can someone help me make a little more sense out of them. I'm looking to upgrade a couple rods at a time. I've looked through the hook up, and tackle trap and they give decent descriptions of the rods, can yall tell me what rods you have, and what you use them for and what you think of them and are there better options out there even if it's a different brand.
  24. Not a slip shot rig...but I said in thread yesterday that I am guilty of putting a shorter leader on a standard c rig, and pitching it to cover and grass. Works really good with flukes, senkos, and baby brush hogs.
  25. I'll throw a white or sexy shad pattern, but for when I'm fishing them, the darker or more natural patterns are better.
