  1. Lol. In in NC. I keep forgetting that a lot of you guys live in freezing climates.
  2. Whenever you get a chance to get fishing again, let us know how Tatsu line performs. I was wondering if it is worth the price of the line.
  3. Why wait for spring time. Fish are still hungry during the winter.
  4. Other guys have mentioned it but I would absolutely stress when you are saving to buy a firearm that you add In the cost of a locking gun cabinet and costs of ranges and safety courses so that you can get a safe at the same time as the gun. Then you can get properly trained ( as well as your spouse) within a short time of putting the firearm in your house. I would also recommend teaching your children about firearm safety as soon as your gun e ters the home. My son is only 2 but he already know that daddy's gun safes are absolutely off limits. It is expensive when you add everything together, but we all agree that protecting your loved one is absolutely worth ever penny.
  5. Glenn is exactly right! I am a big fan of shotgun You can buy what we call squirrel shot #6s. It makes a hell of a mess at close range and shouldn't go through both sides of the wall. I have suggested it to many people. You can also buy flashlight and laser accessories if desired. If you do go the direction of a shotgun, 18 inch barrel. Simply because it is easy to maneuver in tight spaces such as a house.
  6. Hey guys, in another thread, someone brought up scents and attractants. It got me thinking. I normally use Berkley Power Bait. I buy the bottles from wal mart. In the past I have applied a small amount in a new bag of plastics, and I normally put it straight on to the jig or plastics. But it's not something that I have put an awful lot of thought into. And I haven't really ever put it on hard baits or spinner baits. So my questions are as follows. What is your opinion on attractants or scents? What do you use or recommend? How do you apply it? Straight to lure or in a bag of plastics? Do you use it for Hardbaits? I personally haven't used anything outside of power bait or the spike.
  7. I have been wanting to experiment a bit more with scents so that is cool. I may have to look into that. I have been using powerbait as a scent for years and haven't really tried anything outside of that..
  8. About darn time! Go Hurricanes!
  9. Oh forgot to give the fishing report. It was overcast and cloud with drizzles. I end the afternoon with 7 fish. 6 bass and one white perch. I caught one bass and the perch on the jerk bait on a flat off the main channel. 3 more on a 1oz football jig off of main points. And I caught one fish on the jig in question on a boat dock that sits on a main point. Overall the fishing was good for a dreary January day. All bass were keepers but only one would go 3lbs.
  10. Ok guys. I checked weedguard today before going out and it did not feel significantly softer, a bit softer, but not much. I went fishing at Roanoke rapids lake, ( infested with hydrilla and milfoil). I worked the jig through some weeds that haven't completely died off and some milfoil stalks. Even though it didn't feel softer to me by hand the jig actually came through a little bit easier. I set the hook on a fish with it and i didn't see a big difference. My only conclusion is that the KVD sauce doesn't hurt it at all. I'm gonna stick with trimming at an angle. I talked to my dad about my it and he said that what I felt about it coming through easier could be that the sauce reduced friction by coating the guard... Who knows. Same thanks for the advice, but I'm gonna leave this experiment alone. I'll use your advice when I run into a more pressing issue. I normally just just my weed guards at an angle and almost even with the hook. Weed guards are easily alleviated.
  11. I might be getting a little over the top or going too far, but on certain jigs I feel that the weed guards are just too darn stiff and cutting them shorter has a fine line of good and bad when You fish very weedy lakes like I do. I was in the shop a little while ago and after applied a lip of themkvd sauce to my spools before I go fish after church tomarrow. I decided to experiment on a weed guard to see if the KVD line and lure would soften the weed guard enough to make it more effective and still prevent snags. I came to this because kvds sauce does an incredible job on line, and question in my mind was, would it work for this too I applied a small amount to a used Hack Attack jig that has not been trimmed. Note the weed guard on this jig is very thick and stiff. I chose this one because i know it is a very thick weed guard and it is not one of my better ( or my choice of jigs. Didn't want to ruin a Dirty Jig). It will dry over night. I'm gonna to inspect it time and hopefully through some grass and through the mouth of af fish. I hoping to hear y'all's thought on this and if y'all have tried it. And if I'm thinking too much ...lol For past couple use I have been using mainly dirty jigs and haven't really had a problem with them.
  12. Springfield Armory, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Glock, Sig, Beretta and Taurus are all trusted weapons. I'm really impartial to the Springfield xd's and the smith and Wesson M&P. they are really dependable pistols that you can obtain for less than 500. The rest of the makers are listed are all awesome.
  13. Another vote for Carhartt
  14. I have one on my javelin with johnson200. The SE 300 boat gets out of the hole...Keith is absolutely correct .. All u can do is try and see
  15. Broke bass, save your money. I have seen too many failures from those firearms. What is the cost of the firearm that you are looking at? There are some quality pistols out there in the 400+ range.
  16. 1/4 from the top, especially on rods that I use for skipping baits.. I bet I barely have 40-50 yards on my jig and worm rods.
  17. My wife is a nurse, I just asked her she said that every person is different but she was guessing at least 6 weeks before it regained good strength and circulation. She that it should be fine before its time to flip on bedding fish. Lol. My wife is a fishing fool too! I hope it feels better bud
  18. Good idea if it you are within the rules. We fish for stripers and largemouth with llive shad all the time here in NC. We catch them in cast nets and place them in shad barrels. Very effective for cats too. I don't know about other states but in NC, cast net can be used to catch NON GAME FISH. A buddy of mine got a ticket for getting bream in his net and he didn't release them. Game warden saw it and wrote him up. Just make sure you know the rules
  19. My favorite is a L**** C**** P****er. But I really like the Rapala XRap. I throw it a lot. I did buy two of the Luck E Strike STX jerkbaits last month to see wht was all the fuss about, and it is a great jerkbait for 8 bucks. ( if any of y'all buy these, change the split rings and add quality hooks). I found out hard way. Otherwise a good bait. Suggestion. Start out with the Smithwick Rogue. They are 5 bucks or so and they are proven baits.
  20. There are some manufacturers that make schooling/umbrella rigs with lighter wire for that purpose. Something to think about. Paycheck baits, I.e. donkey thrasher. I don't use it, I just know it exists
  21. Manage the trebles just as well. stupid auto correct on iPad
  22. Yes they do have less sensitivity. But quality fiberglass rods do have good "feel" to them. Fiberglass acts like a shock absorber when a fish strikes and allows the trebles to take hold and stay put especially when I fish I shaking hard. There are graphite, rods, with slower taper, that manage the sure less well. Some say that they can cast a bit further with fiberglass, rods, however I can't personally attest to that. I do have two graphite/glass composite, rods, that I am really pleased with. But either way you go, make sure, you buy a quality rod.
  23. Really depends on how much you are trying to spend. You can normally find Berkley fishing sunglasses at your local Walmart for 10 bucks. I have had several pairs of the, over the years. I have a pair of Costas that I wear specifically when I am fishing. They are 179.00. I don't classify that as affordable. But I work for a Lake Managment company and I spend a lot of time on the water at work, working with aquatic vegetation. Since there are chemicals on the work boats, I wear my old Berkleys. They work fine. They effectively take the glare off of the water so i am able to see rocks, stumps, vegetation and anything else. I also keep a spare pair in my personal boat
  24. I own a few powell rods. They are great rods. i think they are a steal at full price. I don't not own a crankbait rod made by them. But I'm sure I will. I throw square bills on 7'MH mod and sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten the heavy action. I fish mine in moderate to heavy cover (open water too, but they really shine in junky stuff) TW has two more 7'H powell cb rods on sale. One is glass.. Something to consider... I haven't heard anything bad about the Lexa. I recommend lews to everybody but its hard to go wrong in that price range. Line size is gonna to depend on how thick is the cover you are fishing. Inviz x is good line. Really examine your needs and do the best you can in your budget. Hard to go wrong with a powell rod that is on sale. Good luck
  25. Good stuff. Good luck with your new combo. Let us know how you like it!
