  1. Getcha a spiining rod to rod round it out. Between the the two rods you have a spinning rod you will be able to effectively work any topwater.
  2. Put it on a baitcaster.
  3. Its got to be one of the best reels ever made. I have a few that i striper and catfish with. I used a couple of mine for cranking for a long time till i bought "crankin reels" never had a bit of trouble out of mine.
  4. Nice dude!
  5. Easiest way to survey this lake to see if catfish are there. Simple. But before you take my advice please look into your states wildlife regulations and see if you can do this. Jug fish it with crappy minnows or any kind of dead bait fish or cut bait ( in NC we cannot use live bait on jugs and we cannot use more than 40 per person). There are all sorts of high dollar "jugs" made with pvc and all that. But for this experiemnt get as many two liter bottles, milk jugs, or any type of plastic container with a lid. Tie on some masons line, heavy braid, or just 20# mono. Tie on a circle hook and put on your bait. Use a boat to spread jugs. Use boat to get to and retrieve jugs once you see a fish on the line. This is probably the most thorogh and effectice way i can think of to survey this pond. Remember to check into your states wildlife regulations before you do this and make sure that it is legal in your state. All of my personal bests in catfish have come from this method.
  6. Sam when does their sale start and end or has it started? Not that my wife thinks i need to spend anymore other than fuel for the boat.
  7. Im with these other guys. Need more info. But right now for me with water temp at 46. I dont go out till at least 930 and i do ok with a jerkbait, football jig, or a suspending deep cranker. (I normally use suspend dots on cranks this time of year) As for technique. SLOW. Jerkbait ill get it down and then ill light a cigarette and smoke half of it and then ill twitch it slightlyy a couple times. Then i let it sit for another minute or so. Football jig, dead stick it. Let it sit for a few and then slightly drag. If i hit a peice of rock or wood, ill shake it without really moving the lure then i kill it. Crankbait similar to jerkbait. Ill get it down and ill kill it for a about 15to to 30 seconds. Then ill working for a ways and repeat. On all baits the bass normally strike after the pause. Or on the pause. These are what work for meand in my waters here in NC. I havent had a topwater bite in weeks!
  8. Yacker is absolutely right....
  9. 6'6" - 7'0 med , xf spinning rod. 2500 series spinning reel. 10-20 lb braid, 6-8 lb fluoro leader if needed. Use it for, light texas rigs, weightless worms, flukes, shakey heads, dropshot, jerkbaits, and small and medium sized topwaters. This agood all purpose rod for all grades of techniques but will allow you to focus on lighter lures
  10. In North eastern NC, weve had a lot of rain this week. All day everyday. I expect this week will put some water in our lakes. Tonight they re calling for snow in raleigh and west of there... ugh.
  11. The 5inch on a weighted swimbait hook. The bluegill color is my favorite.
  12. Thats natures way of telling you to go with a 7.1
  13. 00 mod, that is sweet. I miss having an aluminum boat. Looking at the pics of what you guys have done, im really thinking about buying a 10 or 12 double wide jon, just for ponds and for fishing on the roanoke river, (the section of river ib live near is really rocky and not good for my Javelin) Ill probably start looking for a used one that i can make new.
  14. Draft stock ...going down
  15. I used snaps on my cranks. I dont bother to take the split ring off. The action is fine. At least the fish think so. I havent really noticed the snap snaggin grass. I buy the Berley Cross lock snaps. Norman speeed clips work well too, but id use the berkleys. I like them because i can change lures much quicker.
  16. Georgia makes a really good boots
  17. I pitch jigs year round on two separate Lews Tourneys Pros and i have found that i much rather have the 7.1 i can take up slack quickly and as for it being too quick if you swimming it or quickly bouncing it, i havent found that to be the case but the reel operator can always slow down a touch. Def agree that you should be more intrsted in IPT. Personally i havent noticed it being a harder fight than my 6.3:1 reels. With all that said, if you want an all round reel that that you can uuse for most techniques, get a 6.1, but it is my opinon that 7.1 is better for pitching jigs.
  18. Rip, by the way, that fisher is a nice rig. My buddy has one that is similar.
  19. Rip, those reasons are exactly why i sold my Alumacraft years ago and bought the 20ft Javelin. I wanted/needed storage and a more stable ride with a better liewell Mine is pictured a coupke pages back. I do miss the fuel mileage from the alumacraft tho. I could put 25.00 bucks and fish every day for 2 weeks. Cant do that anymore!!
  20. Its hard time of year to fish. Every week i have to remind myself to SLOW DOWN.
  21. Give your self a couple of hours. They have a nice resturant in the bps.
  22. I dont know about that. KVD would be danger even if he fished with a deck full of snoopy rods.
  23. Thanks dude, next time you come back home. Hit me up and we can go down to Cle's stop and shop and get a burger and break the ice the right way. Heck, we can see if we can catch some on gaston or kerr.
  24. Sorry bud i took a little bit of offense to it. I probably shouldnt have.
  25. So... was that the wildest thing you have ever seen while fishing or hunting? If you want to ask personal questions, tell your back home stories and cast insults you can private message me.
