  1. Haha, once i get settled in with my new job and a few things going on right now, i was thinking of getting my TPs super tuned and possibly tricked out with Carbon/hawg handles...idk, something ive never really done to a reel other than stripping it and replacing bearings or cleaning it. Im def gonna go Hawg tech on it, those handles and cork grips are sexy.
  2. No certainly not. I have a 14 footer (double wide) that is use for ponds and the roanoke river, i do not have a gasoline motor for it, just a trolling motor and there is really zero maintenence. Its like a big canoe. The only maintenence is the trailer (bearings) and keeping my battery charged,(it is on a tender in my shop) Now my bass boat is another story, not a headache, but you do need to stay on top of things. There are more systems and moving parts.
  3. B - bust O -out A -another T-Thousand Nah, it isnt all that bad, just keep up your preventative maintenence and be meticulous. X2 on using two anchors, especially on a small boat. Congrats and Good luck with it, i hope you catch alot of fish in it.
  4. Its no JdM or High end exotic but i challenge you try a Lews Tourney Pro. Its a great reel at a humble price. I have one Zillion that is better built and is a beast, but i have several Lews TPs that i got for half the price and preform pretty dang good. Look on e bay and see what you can find...save money dont buy retail. I am a "lews man" but ive been searching trying to find a pixy or a Td Sol for cheap..i had a Sol before and i got on hard times and hard to part with it. It will cast a weightless finesse worm or a tiny jerkbait a mile!! They are good reels. I dont know if you are in need a Spinning reel, but there are used Stellas up there for 275. And new Stradics for 135.00. (a i bought a stradic off there last month)
  5. Sunline Sniper!!
  6. I gotcha man. DUHH..GET THE CITICA. It really is a no brainer.
  7. Wow Snook, thats a toad!!
  8. Its a lure that can add alot of fish in the livewell in the winter and early spring.
  9. Oh..i was going off spec...and what ive done wiith similar spec. I guess its speaks for the diffferences in rod manufactuers.
  10. Welcome aboard!
  11. Occasionally ill hit the bottom of the mouth with a red marker.. cant say it works. But its a confindence thing.
  12. Topwater poppers, sammies, prop baits, Jerkbaits, docks skipping finesse jigs, light t rigs, senkos, flukes, lighter swimin jigs,... pretty versitile specs. Im pretty sure its what st.croix calls a topwwater or jerkbait rod... but its a fishing rod..use it for whatever you can use it for within the limitations of the rod...id say stick with lighter stuff with it... Just my opinion, i dont own a St. Croix, im just going off of specs on the rod.
  13. Sounds like a good fluke, senko, finesse jig rod. I dont know how loomis tips are but it might could be a jerkbait or towater rod...that is if you dont use it for dropshots..lol
  14. Take it!! Im sure that rod would work for something that you do! If not, sell it and make a few dollars off of it. I havent read the specs of that rod, but im sure u can use it for finesse or light baits or shakey heads.
  15. It is a very popular bait. I have 4 or 5 bags of them. I have used them on jigs, swimin jigs, and pitchin them t rigged and c rigged. I have not punched with them, simply becuase there are a few other lures id rather punch with. I dont use them as often as i use to simply because i found some other compact plastics with good action that i really like. Overall good lure. I like the bigger speed craw, its good bigger claws.
  16. Badmitton is still in but wrestling is out.. what a joke. Wrestling is a true test of strength, endurance, and technique. A sport thats been around forever in most ancient cultures and they are taking it out...what a shame.
  17. Lews Speed Spool comes in 5.4:1 99.99 Lews Tournament MG 5.4:1 129.99 All of their higher reels have that gear ratio too. If you are interested in Lews, look on E bay, you can save some serious money. I have several lews and thats all i buy now.
  18. My wife is the same way. She dont mind the heat of summer or being out for 8-12hrs, but cold, cold wind, or rain and shes out! I offered to buy her some insulated bibs a few years back while at BPS and she said " theres no need" Mine did fish a club tourney with me that we were already registered for. We woke up and it was raining HHARD! she only did that because i couldnt find another partner at 4am. (The one guy i diid find, was still drunk and hadnt been to bed yet) i guess she felt bad.
  19. X3. I dont mind taking a few extra seconds to do that. If im on the fish, then then they will bite again. In the grand scheme of things its not that time consuming to quicklt wiegh a fish after unhooking him and looking at the board, putting him in the livewell and writing down his weight on the board. I like it because it is accurate as long as you write the numbers by the right color.
  20. I use the Powell 725. They also make a "frog rod" thats a 735. Its a beast with a soft tip. Both are just slightly out of your price range at 170. But you can find them for less on E bay from time to time. My local tackle shop sells alot of Daiwa products. They have the Ballistic line up there and there is a Frog rod in the line up. I think it retails for 110.00. I have handled that rod and it has a good tip to it. I think it is a 7'4" H.
  21. Wow. Cool video, whats the deal with the in-car camera? I used them in police work but didnt really know if in car videos were used outside of police/government/secret squirell work.
  22. Ive been with my wife since we were in high school (almost 14years) It wasnt until about 4 years ago that she showed intrest in going. While i was at work one day she bought her fishing license much like yours did and went to the local tackle shop and got some help from the guys in the store and walked out with a Fenwick spinning rod and a Abu cardinal reel that she had them spool wiith some line. I got home from work and she informed me that she was going fishing with me in the morning and she showed me her rod and reel. I was really blown away with her enthusiasm. I asked what was the reason for all of this all of a sudden and she said something that i will never forget. "A life time with some one is a long time, so we better start finding things that we can do together" I had always knew that i made the right decision in marrying her, but that moment solidified it. She doesnt fish with me everytime i go, but at least a couple times a month she goes. I found that it helps to find little things to keep her interested. She had slacked off for a while and i bought her an Avid Pearl Rod. And she liked that. My wife has been my partner in a few local tournaments and has become pretty proficient with a baitcaster and backing the boat in. I know some guys like to be alone when they fish, or with a buddy, but i advise everyone to get their spouses involved.
  23. I have a set of costas but i dont wear them at work (i work from a boat) for fear of breaking them, so i have a few cheap pair too. The Berkely fishing glasses at walmart are ok. But my favorite cheap set is made by Calcutta. I think they were 25.00. They are by far the best "cheap" polarized glasses ive ever had.
  24. Thats the way i leanred and the way i continue to learn. Time on the water is very valueable. There is no substitue for it. And in your down time you can use this site for research and to bounce ideas and experiences off of us.
  25. No twitter. I used to be on facebook. I just got sick of all of the the drama queens and all of the bullcrap that goes along with it. My wife says that Bass Resource is a fishermans facebook. I can live with that
