Basically comes down to the plastic used. Additives must be added to get it to float. These additives (microbubbles) make the bait stiff and much less durable.
Some people make just the tails of a trick type worm in the float plastic and this works well.
I get them here. I use the #8 3/16 ID but I think the 1/4" ID is what most others use. They say $.06 each but put 100 in the cart and they go down to $.03 each. With $5.00 shipping it is still a good deal.

Here is how I put them on.
Thanks for all the great ideas. I have just started using a DS this winter in deep water.
It has been working well for me and I am gaining confidence.
I gained alot of "feel" by switching from straight light floro to braid with a light flouro leader. I feel the bottom and bites much better.
Also moving the bait less has improved my bites
I was gonna say the same thing LOL.
I just started drop shotting this winter for the first time. The fish are 30' down. I started with straight 6# flouro and could not feel much.
I swithed to 15# braid with the same 6# flouro 3' leader and feel the bites better.
I am only catching 2-3# fish but have not lost one yet with these standout hooks. I use the #1 hooks. I just lift and reel. Those bigger fish have much tougherbonier mouths though

Just realized are Ebay links allowed???
All the major companies injectors and molds use a 5/8 hole and can be interchanged, with the exception of Jacobs.
Some 2 piece hand pour molds can be injected and some wont shoot properly without vents. My Senko mold would not work.
To match the fall of a real Senko add 4 heaping teaspoons of salt per cup. Use the finest salt you can. Pickling salt from Walmart is OK. Some powder the salt in a coffee grinder to suspend better but that makes the baits cloudy and opaque. Also add 2 tbsp softener as the salt stiffens the plastic. Make sure you stir frequently.
Water temp here is 42-44 in AM. I get them deeper and with a slower presentation like a drop shop.
IF the sun comes out in the PM and water gets over 45 try shallower with a suspending jerk..
If the sun is out try a suspending jerkbait in the shallows. If not try a drop shot deeper.
I recently have been catching a couple here or there in deep water on the DS. I just watched Ikes vid on drop shotting where he said to let the bait sit and impart less action on it. I did much better today with that method.
Fish also turned off about 2 pm so you just never know when they will bite. Frustrating when you are marking fish and know they are there.
If I lose a bass on a crank, it is usually when they come to the surface and jump/shake. In that case, when you feel the fish coming up, ease up and stick you rod down in the water.
I found a medium rod bends more and keeps the line tighter
Caught nine today and brought them in slower. Some were a little woozy but all swam away. Fish are holding to the bottom in a creek channel in 32' water. 45* surface temp.
Interesting side note, I watched the Ike video on drop shotting and reduced my twitching and hopping. Just letting it sit and slowly dragging like he suggested worked real well. I also switched from straight 6# Berkley Vanish flouro (awefull twisty stretchy stuff) to 15# braid with a short 6# flouro leader and felt the light bites much better.
Caught a bass on a drop shot in 32' of water today. Fish seemed almost dead at the surface. I let it go and it flopped for about 5 mins and then finally disappeared. Can their swim bladder get messed up in 32' depth?
