So, DS and line twist is almost inevitable unless you're using VMC spinshots or the Gammy version of the spinshot. Has anyone tried threading the line straight through the eye of a hook of choice with a bobber stop ontop and under the hook.
Braid wont warp a spool. The only time braid will have any negative impact on a spool is if you're using a finesse spool that has thin walls, it will crush your spool because of the lack of stretch if the drag is to tight.
IMO crank bait color really isn't that important since its more of a reaction bait, so the fish doesn't really get a good look at the detail. The jerk bait on the other hand might be worth a try, the fish can get a good look at it on the pause.
For smallmouth I like 5-15 foot of water, with bigger rocks to smash crankbaits off of.
For Largemouth I like 5-10 foot of water with vegetation that grows halfway up the depth I'm fishing, using a jig just light enough not to crash through and work it off the top of the vegetation.
I can honestly say there are no zebra mussels in any of the lakes or rivers I fish, the only time I usually loose a lure/hook is when a big pike or musky slam them, and obviously the occasional snag.
Another good way to get away with BIG purchases (and not letting your wife find out) is go to BPS online and get all the SKU numbers for the items you want, then call the 1800 number and get them to put it on a 6 pay plan.
