I have 3 spinnerbaits models which I use
1 - Megastrike Strikeback 1/2oz Chartreuse/White. My all purpose spinnerbait. Usually the one I start the day with on "good spinnerbait" mornings.
2 - War Eagle finesse spinnerbaits. a clear/white skirt and a translucent chartreuse/white skirt I custom made.
3 - Strike King painted blade series. Ch/White, White and all all chartreuse
x2 on this. Rigging it straight is the key. It will spiral otherwise. Not a very natural baitfish when that is happening.
Also ... don't underestimate the power of a slow and steady reeling presentation. Reel it slowly so it stays close to the bottom. Pause it from time to time. It's KILLER!
I was able to make this work for me up north. Now I can't stop fishing the fluke.
When I first started it was easy to use the "I'm a noob" excuse and not get frustrated. As I gained more experience I would get frustrated if I happened to get skunked. At some point though I realized that I wasn't taking the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. Not only did I begin improving much quicker but I found I was getting skunked a lot less.
I swear that fish can sense stress through my rod, into the line and on the bait. LOL
This is what I use. The 6'2" rod is perfect for skipping under docks and for other finesse techniques like split shotting or the mojo rig.

There are some interesting things coming out of the Strike King camp at iCast. I am particularly interested in
1 - KVD 1.5 Flat. I have a Rapala flat. Looking forward to compliment my line of KVD 1.5's with the flat versions.
2 - Rage Blade - A new redesigned chatterbait of some sort. Co-Designed with Ron Davis, the inventor of the Chatterbait. Looks interesting
3 - Rage Cut-R-Worm - Looks like an interesting twist to the speed worm category. Something I love to use.
You wouldn't need a bubba shot for open water. You can get away with a traditional drop shot. If you are fishing from the bank then I will share with you my setup. Gene also covered this as the setup for replacing a carolina rig.
8-10lb test
1/0 EWG hook (or #1 split shot/drop shot hook)
1/8 - 3/16 weight
the length between the hook and the weight is much longer. I go with around 12 inches or more.
You need to think of the angle in which you are dragging it. The farther out the bait the closer to the ground it is. YOu need the long leader to get it up off the ground more from the bank.
Also ... keep the tip high. That helps a ton!
Good luck.
I don't like it.
1 - After 2-3 reties you need to chop off 20 feet until you get to a new "tie zone"
2 - If you get hung up good luck ripping that thing off. LOL
3 - I wonder how it will spool on a rod? Are those "tie zones" harder, heavier, less pliable?
You're referring to the "Bubba Shot" or heavy drop shot. Something you can use to pitch/flip in and around brush/cover etc.
With that you use heavier line (I use 10-15lb FC), at least a 1/4oz weight and a short leader around 6-9 inches. Rig your favorite bait weedless and have fun.
When you set the hook with this you use a more traditional overhand hookset because of the thicker hook. If you use a thin wire hook you can get away with a reel set.
This forum must have read my mind. I just bought a pack and was literally was going to search for Ika information when I saw this post. There seems to be a bunch of ways to rig this thing. Here's one that I found on youtube which I like. Does anyone else do this?

Fishing: I caught 5 fish in a row on one GY Senko. That has to be a record.
Non-Fishing: Haven't strangled my teenage daughter yet ... 6 'teen years and counting.
