RoadWarrior ... I was more than floored when I opened the box.
MegaStrike, RageBugs to last me a while, Siebert Jigs, treble baits of all sorts ...
Thank you so much!!!
As promised here are the pics ... I had to make a collage. Site wouldn't allow me to upload the 7 pics I needed to take.
My opinion ... "To each their own ..." ... I lived in the "inexpensive but effective" lures over the last few years. Just recently I bought by first double digit baits (over $10) ... That includes the Whopper Plopper, A-Rig's, Spybaits etc.
Is it worth it ... Only way to know for sure is to fish them and have fun doing it.
Holy c&*p ... I just got my box ... I should NOT have opened it before my work day was through ... LOL
I will post pics tonight BUT man oh man ... was I pleasantly surprised. Couldn't wait to say thanks!!!!
As a co-angler I like to keep variety into the setup I bring. I tend to begin with a crankbait but have also tried smaller swimbaits. Was looking to uncover what other things I might be able to use it for.
The one way I tend to fish 10" worms is to T-Rig it with a bullet sinker (1/2oz generally). Simple cast and drag on the bottom.
I also have had some success flipping and pitching grass with it. I peg the sinker when I do that.
When I began working topwater I started with the Zara Spook and learned how to "walk the dog". It took some time but it has paid off in some big bites through the past two years. I prefer the Strike King Sexy Dawg's now. I use a 6'6" MH Biatcaster, 7.1:1 reel and 15lb mono as a minimum.
As for other topwaters ...
Buzzbait - My favorite from last year. I use the exact same setup and throw a Cavitron (3/8oz white). Reel just fast enough to get the blades going. Vary the speed until you find what they want.
Pop-r - The slowest for me and believe it or not I have yet to catch on a popper so maybe you can give me pointers there.
My favorite technique this past year was the Cavitron Buzzbait. Never caught a bass on a buzzer until this year. Once I got one I was hooked (pun). Love those buzz baits. (3/8 white)
Not necessarily my most productive ... that would be the good ol senko.
I lost one on a run last year. A few others were about to go as well. Ever since then I use them to transport to/from the launch and remove them once I get into the boat.
To date the hardest hit I have ever had was on an alabama rig this past year. The bass was just over 2 lbs BUT man ... you would have thought it was a 10 lber. Nearly took the rod out of my hand. What a surprise.
I have a handful of techniques/lures I want to try next year ...
1 - Whopper Plopper (topwater)
2 - Spybaiting
All my other purchases will be to replenish my stock.
I have been using a uni-uni knot for 3 years now ... The key to me was 2 things ...
1) matching line diameters ... The closer the braid and Fluoro diameters are to one another the better the connection.
2) number of loops. I do at least 7 wraps on either end. Some prefer more. 7 has worked for me.
My go-to setup for spinning is 15lb Braid (Smackdown) with 6-10lb leader (InvizX)
For baitcaster I don't use leaders.
Just curious about those members who have a crankbait rod (parabolic bend, Medium-ish Flex) and if they use it for other things. What are those other things?
Thanks in advance.
I tend to hike an area and do 3 casts. One straight out and two at angles which cover as much as the edges until I get a bite. After that I tend to pick it apart with a more thorough fan cast "pattern".
Didn't get a chance to do that ... Two mornings in a row I wake up to see people fishing outside my window. One morning it was a bass boat ... the next it was a kayak. I swear they were doing that to torture me.
Was it you on the yak???
