  1. Patience is absolutely the key ... As for how long ... to me it depends on the situation. If you know you are around fish and not getting bit I give it 10 - 15 minutes before I switch lures/presentations to see if I can figure out what they want to eat. If you are in search mode then the "1 hour" rule in a spot works for me too. I use a high confidence bait and give it time. FWIW - My high confidence bait this year is a drop shot. Felix
  2. Nope. The bass could care less.
  3. I am always hunting for sales. Just picked up VMC spinshot hooks for $1 a pack. Took all the #1 and #2 hooks they had.
  4. DVT ... definitely will be looking you up. In an effort to diagnose on the kayak I removed the drag knob and of course lost it down one of my scupper holes. A replacement is on its way.
  5. Yesterday I was out fishing a drop shot and caught into a nice pickeril. I was using an Abu Orra SX-20 so it was a small reel. Well this pickeril took that drop shot and took a ton of drag on my reel along with it. I finally get it in and release it but when I went to cast and wind again it felt sluggish (harder to reel, not smooth like it was just before) and almost as if something was "grinding" ever so subtly. Aside from having the drag set to high I wasn't sure if this is a sign of a reel which is now messed up. {Sidebar - kudos to Seaguar 6lb InvizX) Thoughts?
  6. I use a Trokar tube hook, a tungsten weight and a peg.
  7. I use anything as long as it's the 4.5 inch one. Love these baits.
  8. Welcome!
  9. I had a tournament this past week where this came in handy. I always carry a pack of swimming caffeine shads just for this purpose. Saw it on an episode of Strike King fish hard on Okeechobee ... tried it ... it worked ... kept doing it.
  10. Oh boy .... two events and most likely can only do one of them .... I had so much fun on Toledo Bend with the crew that went last year. Looks like I have some planning to do.
  11. I bought my 115x one year too soon. Love it but I love the ATAK even more.
  12. I bought the USA version for my Android and upgraded the features for fishing. I love it for research on a lake.
  13. I live in the Albany, NY area and have never fished Lake George. This is making me want to take a "sick day" and get out there before the season up here ends. Where do you launch?
  14. My fishing buddies call me the local Bass Pro shops. I have quite the stock of plastics. Have given some away, sold others and I STILL have a ton to work through. I have slowed down my purchase of plastics considerably. I think I am making a dent this year. LOL .... Just foolin' myself
  15. I was given this same advice when I went shopping for mine. Comfort was my #1 priority. As I traveled around to sit in them I could quickly tell which I would prefer to keep. After that it was all about your own personal preferences. For me I wanted a very stable fishing yak. It was narrowed down to the Ride 115x, the Hobie MIrage and the new Predator. Of the 3 the 115x was perfect for my needs so I went with that. For the record I had a canoe before the kayak and it was uncomfortable as hell so I avoided fishing out of it. Wasted good money on that thing so do yourself a favor and make comfort your #1 priority. It will make the difference. Good luck.
  16. As Glenn stated 1/8 oz. is where to start. Up the size based on depth. Keep it light enough to "glide" through the weeds rather than sink through if that makes sense.
  17. Man ... my "secret" is out. Since watching a video on a Mojo 3 years ago I put a gitzit tube on. Works wonders up north through the grass. LOL
  18. I am a huge fan of the Mojo rig (aka Finesse Carolina Rig). I just began fishing a traditional Carolina Rig this season with some decent success. I tend to use a 1/2 oz. weight, bead and a Carolina Keeper. As for lures ... thus far I have kept it pretty simple. Either a Zoom trick worm, UV Speed Worm or 7" Berkley Power Worm. I am sure I will expand over time but if you are beginning (like I am) this seems to get bites and begin building your confidence.
  19. Agreed ... I do the same with the Zoom French Fry - The Fish Doctor
  20. In my first 2 years fishing I had to show it at least 3 times each season. Since then I have done what you did and have had ZERO requests for it. Like you ... I am ready.
  21. Same with me ... disappointed in the bait frankly. They seem to be on clearance in DSG for quite some time now. At least up here.
  22. Exact same thing I do. Online, several copies, stored everywhere.
  23. I just had to replace the legs on my frog along with patching a hole and I used marine grade epoxy. So far ... so good.
