  1. Yeah I got a gen 3 sx, a gen 2 sx, and an mgx, and there isn't a way in heck that the mgx is closer to the gen 2 in any way, shape, or form. You will not notice a difference between an mgx or gen 3 revo besides the gear size.
  2. In my opinion, the 50ish retail dollars is worth it for the LTB. But I wouldn't complain about having an Avid either.
  3. In open water or light cover I love it. It casts wonderfully. But get near rocks, it snaps little effort.
  4. The action seems to be pretty accurate to me, but the power is definitely over rated. what you are looking at is probably more along the lines of a medium mod fast rod.
  5. I've had really good luck with the SXs Ive owned. I really liked them.
  6. Did they have any of the black carbonlite rods? The Olathe store doesn't.
  7. Thanks! I might make a trip out there.
  8. What Dicks are you talking about? I see you're in Lees Summit, and I'm not terribly far from there.
  9. I'm also a boca tool user. They're very quick and easy to use, but I have bent a pin or two with them. Likely my fault as the pins were stuck in there pretty good, but don't think just because you're using a proper tool that you don't still need to be careful.

  11. Yeah me too. And only a week? That will suck! My brother and I were planning a trip, but if it really starts the 6th and only a week, it may be difficult to pull off.
  12. Yeah, I really wish any of the Dick's close to me carried the Patriarch. I'd be all over those for $75.
  13. I was just at a dicks that did have a sign that said 50% off all clearance marked stuff. Then noted that it was things ending .93 and .97. They didn't really have anything worth buying though.
  14. Or you can think of it like planets around the sun. Earth takes 365 days for one revolution. Pluto takes 90,000 days to make that same revolution.
  15. A longer handle should be more comfortable/easier due to increased lever action, therefore less force required by fisherperson.
  16. It considers the system as a whole (handle, gear set, spool) rather than just the gearset alone. To quantify: Effective ratio = old handle or spool diameter/new handle or spool diameter x gear ratio. No, this doesn't affect ipt, but how fast your hand moves through space for given spool rpm. The OP is referring to it as overall ratio.
  17. Right. But changing the handle length will change how fast you must move your hand through space for a given spool rpm.
  18. There's a difference between the set gear ratio of the gear set and the "effective ratio" from handle to line. It's the same concept as putting larger wheels/tires on a vehicle. You didn't change the gear ratio of the drive train, but your engine will certainly turn a different rpm for the same road speed. For a given engine rpm, the wheels will still turn at the rpm determined by the gear ratio, but due to the larger circumference, more distance will be traveled per revolution of the larger tires. Therefore, for same revolutions per minute, larger tires will give you larger distance per minute. With a longer handle, you will have to crank your hand faster for the same spool speed (ipt). Or you can crank your hand at the same speed which will result in a slower spool speed. But as said above, the spool revolutions per handle revolution is a locked ratio. IMO, Ipt is no more informative than gear ratio as it also depends on how much line is on the spool and that spec will only be accurate for a short period of time.
  19. Yeah I don't understand it either. It casts perfect, wonderful casts for hours, then all of a sudden it backlashes, and then does it every cast. It seems tightening up on the brakes doesn't have any effect unless I make a very drastic tightening, pretty much to the point that it will only cast about 10 feet. Then it stops back lashing, and I can free up the breaks back to where it was at and then perfect beautiful casts for more hours. I guess it's new enough I should send it in.
  20. I love mine. Very nice reel. My only complaint is it seems after so many perfect casts it wants to start back lashing and I have to crank down on the brakes to stop it, then back them back off. Some days I have to do this a few times.
  21. I'm pretty d**n happy with my St Croix Legend tournament 7'1" M/F and MGX. I wouldn't mind trying a core 50mg on it though.
  22. You won't be disappointed with the gen3 Revos. I've owned 3 and still have two of them (SX and Mgx), and I also have the new chronarch. It's tough to really like one over the other. I will admit that the revo isn't quite as refined as the shimano, but the chronarch is $100+ more, so it should be. I've never had any reliability issues with my revos.

  24. Call Abu Garcia parts dept and order Eva knobs, if you have a compatible handle. You can get red, black, or gold trimmed (mgxtreme, mgx, premier) for quite cheap. They give you 20% if your order is greater than like $20-30 too.
