  1. That's how it is done... I've never experienced anything like that, but man it sure does look like a good time.
  2. Champ, There's a club based out of Richmond that fishes Lake Chesdin, Chickahominy River, James River and Appomattox River if you're interested. Message me if you want some more info.
  3. Prince George, VA here. There are several clubs in the Richmond area that you may want to look at. Just head over to the bass club forum and search "VA"... You'll get some good results there.
  4. Do you mean Diascunds Resrvoir?
  5. Just want to throw my two cents in on this thread. Last year was my first year in the area and I was looking for a club to fish with. I found these guys here on Bass Resource and it has been awesome ever since. Great group of guys to fish with, lots of experience amongst them and just an awesome experience overall. If you're in the RVA or Tri-Cities area and looking for a club to join, you should definitely look at River City Anglers. Here's to a great 2014 fishing season!
  6. 1. Patience 2. Work on my boat and keep it clean 3. Off shore structure 4. Limit in every tournament, Win 2 5. Have fun and enjoy mother nature
  7. I am in the planning stages for a move from one coast to the other this coming fall and want to hear yalls thoughts on hauling my boat from tidal Virginia to the Seattle area of Washington. The boat isn't worth a whole lot, but I do love the boat and have it pretty much customized to my fishing style and habits. Is it worth driving it across country? Or is this something where I should give serious thought to selling it and buying something else once I get settled in there? Anyone ever made a trip similar to this? Thanks!
  8. I haul my boat around (18' glass with a big heavy 90s model 150 on it) with a '13 Tacoma (V6, 4x4), no issues to speak of with power or braking. I absolutely love my truck, it gets great gas mileage - it works perfectly for what I use it for. Good luck finding your truck.
  9. Heres a link to some info for Percy Priest I shared a while back... Thanks for putting on the uniform from a fellow Soldier. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/111347-anybody-want-to-share-some-spots-on-percy-priest-lake/
  10. If you need a guide, I don't charge too much.
  11. Reel down and swing up - and man-size your hook set. Like everyone has said above, you should have a pretty good hook-up ratio when you do these two things, anything less than a full swing on a jig and you're asking to lose the fish.
  12. The only time I get irritated is when folks are fishing off the dock at the ramp and don't want to reel their lines in when I am trying to launch or load my boat. Other than that, I steer clear of folks on the bank, I remember the days when that was me and I would get irritated with boaters fishing on top of me.
  13. I just consider it the sign of a good day...
  14. Good morning everyone, Just wanted to know if anyone has fished Little Creek Reservoir lately and if so, if you have any tips on what they're hitting or where to fish at. Thanks!
  15. After doing a lot of research on here and looking at reviews on the internet, I am ordering my first *** Rod today (***, 7'1 M) - hope it lives up to everything I have read. Plan to break it in next weekend.
  16. I found the club that I fish with through this site and it's been an awesome experience. I also learn something on here every time that I log on... Whether it be a new lure, technique, something to waste money on, creative boat storage, or something random about a poster. Great website and really glad that I found it.
  17. I've decided to go out and fish a pretty big (# of boats wise at least) tournament on the James this weekend... blind - just lucked up into having a free day and decided I am gonna go out and see how I do. Never fished the James and have limited experience on tidal rivers. I've read the posts above and was wondering where some of this stuff is at - like the barge pit and such. Any pointers for this time of year on the James would be helpful. I have a solid gameplan I think but am trying to get as much info as I can before I head out. Thanks for any input.
  18. Fished Swift Creek Res on Saturday and didn't see any fish on beds. Fished Chick Lake for the first time yesterday and couldn't figure that place out, do they bed back on the cypress roots? I found muddy bottoms everywhere I looked.
  19. Tournament tomorrow morning with my club out at Swift Creek... Hoping to load the boat up with big momma piggies. Taking my father in-law out for his first tournament ever and he's been bass fishing for 50+ years. Hope everyone who's fishing this weekend does well, good luck gentlemen.
  20. Definitely going to try and fish as many of these as I can fit into my schedule. I like evening hours, haven't fished a tournament during that time of day before.
  21. First year fishing as a member of a club and I want to finish in the top 5 for AOY. Win a tournament. Catch a limit in every tournament. Fish one "big" event and finish in the money. Get more experience on the waters of Central VA.
  22. Muddy and 44 at Chesdin yesterday - tough fishing for sure. We've got more cooler temps after this short warming trend... I expect we're still a good ways off from spawn. I'd just like to see the water break that 50 mark and get them in more of a pre-spawn pattern.
  23. I've thrown a jig all fall and winter, almost exclusively (I'd say 85% of my casts) and it has done wonders for my ability to fish with one. I'm not really going to focus on one rig or another during spring and summer, instead I'm going to try and hone in on my ability to fish the conditions that I am presented with better.
  24. Add it to the boat fund...
