  1. LOL I even watched videos on how to remove backlashes. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I guess I'll see how that trick works on a really bad backlash but so far it has worked.
  2. Yesterday I finally got chance to play with the new rod and reel. Was watching ever video I could so that I could minimize backlash as much as possible, and it was under control . I spooled up some mono (momoi hi-catch) and let it rip. it feels so different from a spinning rod but it is so much faster to keep fishing. Reel it in and cast. Really cool. One question. How far should I be able to cast is it the line that helps it go further or was it all the brakes I set up to keep me from backlashing. LOL
  3. I would have waited for the rod trade in. But they were offering 4x rewards on Friday for Abu products.
  4. I picked up a PQ reel, veritas rod and yo-zuri line. Bait monkey happy for now. Lol
  5. I'm a newbie to baitcasters too, but when I filled my first one the other night it was pretty even across but it did feel bumpy. Did you thread the line through the line guide?
  6. Would a scrounger jig head work?
  7. Sell the car and buy a Subaru. Lol I keep 7' rods in there all the time and I have 2 car seats.
  8. In sale as of yesterday. Plus turn in an old reel and get an extra $15 off. I picked mine up yesterday
  9. Took the plunge last night and picked up the PQ 6.4 lefty reel, veritas 7' MH F rod and the Yo-Zuri 12lb hybrid. I spooled some mono on the reel to practice so I don't waste the good stuff. I hope to be able to test it out soon. I'm a happy camper thanks to all of the help.
  10. Cool thanks for the information.
  11. So the first rod and reel that we got was little zebco combo. Will BPS take that for the reel trade in deal? Or is it not worth enough? Guessing no. -Michael
  12. x3 tried it and it rocks. Easier to tie and it has not failed yet. I used to use the palomar and I spent too much time tying it so was happy to learn the San Diego Jam
  13. X2 on the San Diego Jam. I am a recent convert and I love it. No losses yet and it's pretty easy to tie.
  14. Oracle Applications Database Administrator working on UNIX systems. AKA computer geek. Lol
  15. If I were you I'd get the battery. Unless you want to be a bank fisherman like me. Nothing wrong with being a bank fisherman but if I had the boat I would try to do what is needed so I could float around and reach the spots I can't cast to. I know that you really want the reel. But you need that battery.
  16. I can guarantee that a dry lure will not catch a fish, regardless of the weather.
  17. I was thinking since I was already using 10# mono (Moimoi) it made sense to use the same weight line with the hybrid. I usually fish local ponds around Weston FL so there are rocks around. Thanks for the heads up.
  18. I snagged 3 today in about an hour. A dink and 2 nice ones 17 in and a 14 inch, then it got dark and my son was freezing.
  19. Double check the laws in Miami Dade about dogs. Pit bulls are illegal. I work in Miami and its true about Spanish is everywhere there. I walk into a grocery store and the staff barely speaks English. And I do mean the entire staff. Most of the houses are in gated communities you will be hard pressed to find a non HOA home in south florida. There is a huge culture shock coming here. I came from Arizona and was still surprised by some of the stuff here. People drive like maniacs and the insurance was through the roof compared to AZ. And that was a border state where cars ended up in Mexico. Find a nice spot in Broward and commute. Stay off I-95 and the Palmetto your commute will thank you, and learn Spanish if you want to function in miami.
  20. Thanks for the heads up on the KVD line and lure that saved me a few bucks. I would have never known until I got it on.
  21. Not too long ago I asked about how to spend my gift cards at BPS for my first baitcaster. After looking at the options and the big sale. I will be getting the PQ reel and the veritas MH fast tip rod and spool it up with yozuri hybrid 10#. What do you think. I was trying to stay under $200 so I think this would be a good solution.
  22. X2 sounds like that
  23. One option would be to go to Costco to buy really reduced price on quality sunglasses. There is a huge markup on sunglasses and Costco has the prices on just about all of them amazingly low. Bolle Raybans even Maui Jim. Check it out you may stay in budget and still get a quality pair of sunglasses. Another option is that your insurance may cover a portion of the cost of the sunglasses. Buddy of mine got a pair of vuarnet sunglasses. No prescription and the insurance covered them fully. Some options.
