  1. Ran my champion welsh in several hunt tests and events. Earned his Working Dog Excellent and Junior Hunter titles and a leg on his Senior Hunter.
  2. 1. Have fun 2. Improve as a kayak angler 3. Take my son as often as possible (weather permitting)

  4. If you are looking for a ready made solution, then I highly recommend using the new RAM Zooka Tubes. They are designed to work with both spinning and casting rods. The holder has designed notches and cutouts to hold the different rod styles. The holder itself can be rotated from vertical to horizontal and any angle in between and then locked to prevent the holder from loosening. I use two on my Hobies. One for a stake out pole anchor point near the front and one on the opposite side either fore or aft depending on how I want to use it that day (ie: trolling versus storage). It looks like this mounted and in use as either a vertical or horizontal....
  5. Not sure of other specs out there but it would depend upon what rod type, action, etc. you are looking for. I can tell you that the lightest rods I personally own and use religiously are my Bull Bay Rods Tactical Series AR-15 spinning rods. They have a composite 7'2" blank MED/XF, American Tackle Company Microwave guides, and such all resulting in a blank that weighs 2.9 oz. Lifetime warranty to boot. Drop me a line and I'll put you in contact with the owners.
  6. Welcome aboard!
  7. Koppers Live Target Bluegill - $10, I know it pails in comparison to some of the swimbaits that you guys use, but what hurt most about this one is that I had literally just tied it on and made one cast. It got hung up on some sunken submerged chicken wire pens on a managed lake. Sucked!

Landed this Potomac Special retrieving a Ribbit over the top of submerged grass in Pohick Bay on the Potomac.
  9. Top water frogs are killer on the 'mac!!
  10. I would recommend doing a google search for Jeff Little and river paddling skills - he has a good example of using the river as your energy to propel you upstream. In its simplest form, its generally pointing your bow at approximately a 30-40 degree angle and paddling on the downstream side across the current. It is more efficient and can help you save energy. Once you reach an eddy or slower moving current, you can angle your bow the opposite way and repeat. This might help you some also: specifically the 3:23 mark...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N3bstswReM

  13. Good question - the rods are proprietary composite handmade blanks made in California. The blank itself is an intermediate modulus blank with a base layer of glass for added flexibility when placed under high pressure.
  14. If you're still in the market, I would like to suggest something different than everyone else. Take a look at Bull Bay Rods Tactical AR-15 series of rods available in both spinning and casting. These rods are phenomenal and the only brand I trust anymore. I've had all the traditional off the shelf consumer rods (Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Duckett, Shimano, St. Croix and a couple hi end Daiwas and Powells), and I sold them all and now use BBR exclusively. I am not sponsored by them nor do I receive any compensation or discounts for any referrals or sales I generate. I'm actually ordering another one in the same specs you are looking at - a 7'0"-7'2" MH/Fast casting rod with Microwave microguides. $165 with a lifetime warranty! Hand made right here in the good old USA - Deland, FL. Give them a look!
  15. I had a custom flipping rod made for me - being in a kayak affords me the ability to shorten my rod length being closer to the water. Rod of choice was a Bull Bay Rods 7'2" H/XF casting rod paired with a Revo Inshore spooled with 50lb Sunline FX2 braid. The 22lb of drag on the Revo Inshore enables me to pitch and flip into the heaviest of cover with little to no fear of breaking off. If the fish gets hung up, I just paddle up and go get him/her!
  16. I would recommend pool noodles and other forms of closed cell foam. You can cut and shape it to fit your hull shape. Once installed, it also serves as a noise deadening barrier and helps hold your battery box in place. With a Pelican style container, you also will realize that the weight of the battery box itself will help keep it fairly motionless. You can also place those cabinet door bumpers with the adhesive backs on them to act as stoppers as well to hold the box in place. Home Depot and Lowes are you friends here because you can walk around and get some ideas.
  17. Sorry for your loss - thoughts and prayers for your family!
  18. Ballast and trim are key factors to keep in mind when deciding on a location in your hull. I prefer to keep mine in the bow area, since most weight in a kayak is located in the center and rear. While I now use a Hobie specific battery holder, I started with a simple Pelican case and placed it in the bow area of my first two kayaks.
  19. So here's a couple points to ponder............. Do we have actual definitive evidence of when this occurred? As in when the artificial fish attractors were placed? Now, once you have that information, compare it to when the Classic location was disclosed to the BASS competitors? Did he place the fish attractors before or after that date? Until you know the specifics of when the event happened, you run the risk of rendering an opinion without complete information. For all we know, he could have placed those attractors with the SCDNR some time ago as a part of a state funded conservation project. Just some food for thought.....
  20. Action is definitely not an issue with the PowerTeam Lures Craw D'oeuvre, Texas Rig Jig or even the Diesel Craw. The baits are neutrally buoyant, so even the slightest twitch of the line or current movement will impart action from the appendages like a natural craw would.
