  1. Well I went out today from 5pm to 7pm. Got 6 or 7 bass, the largest on was 16" so nothing worth posting Did however hook into a NICE snakehead, must have been 6-7 lbs and put up a very nice fight! Oh yea, I was using Lizards and Space Monkey, Senko didn't catch any fish today, weird...
  2. Oh, AK, with that stunt of yours you've given me beautiful ammo for my next video
  3. Well I for one have no problem with AK's prank and actually thought about doing one like that, except I don't catch fish like he does We all wanted a Ninja, we got one
  4. i ate two before, both from my local canal, and they were just fine, and i'm still here to talk about it i'm sure one once in a while will not harm. there are too many in my canal though, for me to eat every one i wish to eliminate...
  5. To add: I tied the bundles to stakes in the ground as well as to some roots sticking out the edge of the canal, so they don't float off in high wind or current...
  6. So here's the story: Few weeks ago I was mowing my lawn, including the backyard right by the canal. I took a weed whacker all the way to the edge of the canal and a lot of clippings fell into the water. Those clippings stopped on a patch of weeds and created few feet of nice cover in an otherwise bare canal. That evening LMGambler came over with his fishing rod, threw a zoom speed worm past the grass and pulled out a nice bass on the very first cast! I guess we were both surprised, since the canal around me holds mostly snakeheads and other small fish, but not much bass. He said to me: "You should throw some palm leaves in there to create some cover." Well I didn't think much of it at first, but eventually my engineering mind kicked into high gear and I started to formulate a plan... Create a massive cover along the canal to attract fish! So, while doing landscaping two days ago, I collected A LOT of palm tree leaves, I've bundled them together with some rope and started to make my own "artificial" cover (my neighbors probably think I'm skipping on my medication by now). I have about 20-25 yards of canal accessible from my back yard (and I can walk for 1/2 mile at least along it) and I plan on creating more cover to cover the area in my back yard. The function test will come soon when I try to throw some lures around the cover I've made to see if I can pull some nice bass and/or snakeheads. Sooooo what do you guys think? Waste of time, or decent strategy to improve fishing in my part of the canal? I know that if I walk the canal toward more cover and vegetation, the fishing definitely picks up. Below are pics of what I did today... your thoughts?
  7. scientists decided to create a new species of gamefish. so they crossed a koho salmon with a walleye, and came up with a fish called a ko-wal. well, it got real big and had nice markings, but it didnt fight worth a chit. so they crossed the ko-wal with a musky, and came up with a fish called a ko-wal-ski, and it was so f-ing stupid they had to teach it how to swim!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1FZCdEQjUM
  8. i would think a dead snakehead at the bottom of a canal would be good food source to many critters
  9. you mean the horse pulling it?!
  10. the only things i don't mind killing are: mosquitos, cockroaches! disgusting creatures!!! and sometimes tiny pharaoh ants running all over my house. otherwise i'm of a believe that everything wants to live and it's not up to me to kill it. i will however kill to eat with no reservations, that's part of God's creation to me. now having said that, if snakeheads are causing issues i could talk myself into clubbing them on the head and throwing the body back in for other's to eat...
  11. hey if you're willing to drive down here, of course you're invited! i think in about a month or so after my mom goes back to Poland we can organize a BBQ
  12. actually i though about throwing a BBQ party for the local guys! perhaps once the weather cools down a bit we can have a BBQ/fishing in my back yard
  13. Sliwowica is the plum moonshine. I don't know what Wisniak is, but by the name of it it's cherry vodka. it's disgusting (sliwowica) but some like it. Zubrowka is the vodka with grass leaf. I can get you both if you want. PM me your email, we'll work out the details
  14. Hi gang! So I fished in a little canal behind my house, and it's absolutely infested with snakeheads! I've caught 3 in an hour (as well as 10 small bass), and saw MANY more all on a 1/2 mile stretch of a narrow, not very deep canal. This canal dead ends at a park and also forks off a bit north of me, but basically a dead end. What I also noticed, is that there appears to be a strange patter to where the fish are located. Toward the two dead ends of the canal, there are only snakeheads (plus some small cyclids and sunfish), only traveling in the opposite direction where the canal meets up with a larger one do you start to see Bass and other fish. I wonder if the snakeheads have wiped the fish population in part of it, or are blocking other fish from entering the dead end by killing and eating anything else that dares to pass. For the longest time I was of the believe that snakeheads are not harming the local eco system; but after fishing for a while today, I see that it's a snakehead infested wasteland. So... putting my ethical issue of killing things for "no reason", should I start a campaign of "terminate with extreme prejudice" to restore my canal to some sort of a balance? We're talking about a 1/2 mile of canal, and I can easily cover all or most of it and catch them. I know they can return from the larger canal eventually, but would a consistent catch and kill approach restore more bass into my canal? And finally, what is the quickest and most humane way to kill a snakehead? I've seen people cut them open through the upper belly/jaw, but it's rather grotesque. Any other way other than a rock/stick to the head? Thanks! Martin
  15. and the fry was guarded by two adults one maybe 2 feet, but the other one was HUGE, probably 36-38 inches, and fat too! i tried catching them but once they saw me they were no game. so, what's the quickest and most humane way to kill a snakehead (I can't believe i'm asking this question )? whacking them on the head does little because their skulls are so hard! i once tried to decapitate the one i caught for dinner and it took good 10 minutes with knifes and scissors :-/ so, HOW DO I KILL IT! I've seen people cut them open UNDER the head on the soft side, but that sounds gruesome...
  16. hehe Lou, i'm heading into a busy weekend. my mother is flying in from Poland on tuesday (want some Zubrowka MCS, or some other liquor? no joke, i can ask her to bring some. maybe Sliwowica?) and i have a lot of work around the house, plus my friend (13sn13) is turning 30 tomorrow so it's a party! i did manage to go out today after work though, this time i fished behind my house in the small canal and it was on fire. i pulled 3 snakeheads and about 10 bass, all in about an hour, though the bass were TINY! from 6 to maybe 13-14 inches, on a good day. speaking of snakeheads, i saw a pair guarding young, and the young ones were HUGE! i've never seen a school of 5" snakeheads! there were hundreds of them! this whole canal is infested with the devil fish and i'm beginning to wonder if i should thin them out a bit. i normally let them back in the water, unless i'm going to eat one which doesn't happen often, because i have an ethical problem with killing things for no reason, but it has really gotten bad in my canal. i must have seen a snakehead every 20-30 yards!!! this is insane!!! there was a lot of small bass and other fish, but the snakeheads were all decent size. i'm seriously starting to wonder if this little canal can sustain the eco system with so many apex predators of one specie in it what do you guys think? should i go on a "kill snakeheads" campaign for few weeks? my mom will be here and i'll be taking some time off so i can find time to walk up and down that canals and do some serious damage...
  17. just because i'm not going doesn't mean you can cheat on me!
  18. Oh Lou, I have the video of all videos picked up for the "Hitler, errrr, Martin finds out Gambler Won" video. I've been thinking up the subtitles for the last few weeks, and each time I watch the original video while imagining the subtitles I laugh my butt off! It will be a block buster... assuming Gambler can actually put his money where his mouth is
  19. Just remember, it's my videos that bring the audiences
  20. reply # 927. i think we're on a 4 digit track here guys
