  1. I would say 7+:1. I've been doing A LOT of top water fishing lately: hollow body frogs and flapping plastic frogs, and my 6.5:1 reel just isn't cutting it when I need to work the bait faster...
  2. Hi gang! So for my baitcasting reels I have 3: Citica E, Curado G, and Chronarch E. Citica casts the heavy plastic lures fine with a 14# mono on it. Chronarch casts like a dream, i'm still amazed how far that thing will send a fluke flying. But my Curado G, well, ahmmm, underperforms when casting a Booyah Pod Crasher Jr. with a 50# PowerPro braid (yes I know I should have gotten the E :-P they do feel more refined). So what are my options for improving casting distance? I was fishing with LMG the other weekend and he was throwing the same lure on the same line except from a Chronarch 200 or 50, not sure, and was able to cast TWICE the distance I could with my Curado :-( I can start with giving the reel a nice clean and lube. I tried going from 3 to 2 breaks but that didn't make any noticeable difference. This leads me to believe that it must all be in bearing and spool. Also releasing the spool tension completely has no effect at all. I can do 2 breaks and no spool tension, or I can do 3 breaks and tension adjusted to slowly drop the lure; same casting distance. Would dry run ceramic boca bearing help here? What else can I do with this reel? Thanks! M. P.S. Take it easy on me for getting a G please :-D
  3. you can say that again :-)
  4. ok i'm going frogging in a new spot today after work. be afraid! be very afraid! muchahahahahahahaaha
  5. and i was really starting to like you man! LOL J/K!
  6. you mean like those d-bags with tricked out 2011's, drilled slides and frames, 0.0001lbs triggers and holo sights where the rear sight should be, who can't hit a barn from 10 yards away? yeaaaaaaa, i loved it when i clocked in 1st with my stock xdm-9 :-D
  7. so could this be a symptom of an underlying problem i didn't realize i have, or normal reaction to something my body is not used to doing?
  8. i hope not :-( this only started to happen recently when i started to fish a lot on weekends (half day long boat trips) using topwater lures that require a lot of action/motion of the rod etc... i'll read up on it.
  9. yes same fingers you mention! i also realized that part of the problem is my large wedding ring that presses against my finger and gets pushed up when i hold the bait caster in my left hand. the rod trigger gets in the way (i have the trigger between pinky and ring finger) as i'm working the lure (i was using top water frogs yesterday all day). i'll have to try taking the ring off when fishing :-(
  10. One other thing, I cast with right hand and then hold the rod in left hand. Sometimes I'll add left hand to the cast by grabbing the end of the rod and giving it an extra whip and force...
  11. Hi Guys! I have a question regarding sore wrist and fingers when using baitcasters. I've noticed that after a long day of fishing my left wrist and last two fingers in my left hand are sore and hurt. I think this might be due to me sometime casting with both hands for greater distance, I can feel the strain on my wrist when casting, and end up in pain later. It was especially bad yesterday, my fingers felt numb and very sore, and my wrist was hurting. It's all fine today, but I wonder if any of you experience the same? M.
  12. oh sweet! so we're doing this for a month! 2 or 5 best fish then?
  13. OK, I went out today again, and had a near-skunk-experience. With only one small bass, all I got for this tournament is 1 18" bass :-( Let's start a month long top 5 fish on the 15th :-)
  14. So I went to the weight in, in case you guys were there too, I was with the cute petite blondie and two little kids who kept peeking into the fish bucket :-) I wanted to cry when I saw all the beautiful, large, and DEAD snakeheads :-( Saw the kid with the state record and I vowed before the gods of Catch and Release that I shall beat his record one day!!! :-D
  15. Sunday at midnight I think :-) Still plenty of time to impress -) Edit to add: I think the next tournament should be a month long. Some of us get to go out once or twice a week you know... :-D
  16. 18 inches so far. the other one I got wasn't even worth mentioning... more fishing sunday AM :-)
  17. I've had a similar problem last weekend, was throwing Booyah Jr pod crashers and KVD Sexy Frogs and out of the 12-15 strikes i set zero hooks :-( I'll have to try bending the hooks out. I have to try that for sure!
  18. I think those gambler flapping swimmers or something they're called... you can work them like a fluke, swim fluke, top water, drop it and let it sink like senko... but i don't have much if any experience with other lures mentioned....
  19. I recall there was a similar thread about line twist on a spinning reel few weeks ago. The conclusion was that the person spooled TOO MUCH LINE on the spool. I've fished flukes a lot on spinning and casting reels alike, and the lure does not spin along line's axis, so....
  20. Guys please explain to me how a heavier rod or a heavier rod with faster tip will feel when casting, presenting, and bringing in fish. My only experience is with Hurricane spinning rods, I have a light/fast and medium/fast spinning setups. I quickly moved from light to medium because fish was overpowering the rod. On my spinning rigs i have 7' MH/F and 6'8" MH/F Compre rods, and one MH/F Crucial rod (yea i'm a shimano fan boy I guess... thanks LgMouthGambler!). I understand that heavy rod will take more force to bend, and that faster tip, like extra fast) will have less flex in the rod. But how does that translate to casting distance, feeling the strikes, etc?
  21. Glad you're coming around to the Jedi side of the force :-) NOP! They suggest you kill it, but it's not mandated by law. I wonder if a law that requires you to kill it would pass "constitutionality" test. I for one have an ethical problem with killing things just for the sake of killing them (except mosquitoes and cockroaches, yak! :-P ) and would not follow such a law. what about people who wouldn't do it for religious reasons... anyways, getting way off topic and last thing i need is another suspension ;-)
  22. yep definately should have been put on antibiotics before the surgery (I had the same thing happen, an infection feeding off of a root canaled tooth that was eating through my jaw bone). vicodine helped tame it just enough for me to stop being suicidal. BTW, DO NOT GET USED TO THOSE PAIN MEDS, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL PAY THE PIPER, TRUST ME...
  23. i would have whipped out my 45 and had tuna AND shark for dinner! ha!
  24. i just posted that on FB :-) she-who-must-be-obeyed calling me in 3... 2... 1... oooooh snap!
