  1. Cool video, now you need to add some creepy music to go with the breathing and a final scene like in "Europa Report" movie I'm actually looking for a videos of bass taking a jig and can't find to many
  2. interesting... i can tell i have a snakehead on the line because 1) very distinct sound and feel when they hit top water lure and 2) they NEVER jump but instead always dive down. i am yet to see or catch one (and I've gotten 20+ maybe more, i've lost count) what will NOT dive down and deep; never jump.
  3. Ahhhh man, now I have to go order some
  4. here's the actual jig, 3/8oz archy head with the new square hook; i dropped it on the edge of some thick grass and half a second later it got hit hard! also got 2 other bass today (that's 3 fish in 2 hours of fishing the jig, it has never happened before and i'm pumped) on was 18" and another got away, he jumped. the biggest thing for me was slowing it down AND putting my finger on the front of the baitcaster so i have the line run over my finger before it enters the reel. this way i could feel when it hit the bottom, rock, wood, soft bottom, etc. also made detecting the strikes "easier" though i absolutely believe that for 3 strikes i detected i missed another 10 oh, i used black/blue jig skirt and same color rage tail craw and space monkey. keep practicing, it took me 20-30 hours on the water of patience and persistence but it finally paid off, i'm umped and my confidence in the jig ticked up a bit too
  5. I was in the same boat too, been using jigs for the last 4 weeks or so and having really hard time... until today Got this puppy right on the fall, on a Siebert Outdoors Jig of course
  6. JIG is the name of the game in August... stay tuned for today's catches in the August Tournament thread
  7. i've done it with both braid and mono. i noticed that mono coming off one reel and onto another had huge memory issues, but somehow straighten itself out after several casts, no joke. i think it was p-line, mono coated with fluocarbon, it's super soft and smooth.
  8. Mostly in the supermarket sea food section LOL It's been so tough this summer in FL (my first summer ever fishing for bass, i'm a noob) that I feel defeated and can't wait for Sep/Oct to come...
  9. I recently started to buy from the sponsors here (Siebert Outdoors and Rage Tail baits). I don't know of any mom & pop shops in S.E.FL that have much if any bass fishing equipment, it's all geared toward ocean fisherman here...
  10. So I noticed that all the guides, and especially the first 3-5 at the tip of the rod are dirty from all the crap line picks up from water. though where the line touches it's clean, but around the edges it's a mess. do you guys clean your rod guides often if at all? should I?
  11. Jitterbug!
  12. most of the canals i fish i can cast all the way across. i usually have the best luck casting on the grass across and making a soft/quiet entrance (it works wonders with frogs and snakeheads). i've been doing the same thing with jigs the other day (really confused neighbor's dog LOL) throwing it on a nicely mowed grass, slowly reeling it to the edge and then gentle hop into the water (i mean you should have see that confused poor old dog LOL); sometimes it would land on the vegetation so i would pull gently and it sinks, and sometimes it goes straight down (most of our canals are just a vertical drop 6-10ft deep). so going "uphill" is not really an issue for me; btw all the bites i had so far happened within 2-3ft of the bank's edge...
  13. not to hijack the thread, but it's not quite what happened. husband was outside; woman went back inside, where she was presumably safe, and then went back out to confront the hubby with a gun, and that's what got her in trouble. she didn't stand her ground, she left, got the gun, and then returned to the confrontation. that's a huge no no. now if he followed her inside and entered or attempted to enter illegally, she would have been justified in shooting. but you can't safely leave, grab your heat, go back to the danger, shoot, and then claim self defense and stand your ground. agreen on a light backpack Lou! i got one a while ago from tackle warehouse: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18829116 it's enough to hold enough gear for day's worth of fishing with 2 rods; what i mean by that is that i can pack enough jigs and trailers plus hooks and plastics, or worms and frogs, etc, you get the idea. it fits very comfortably, has one large main compartment and two smaller ones where i keep "most used" lures for the day, digital scale, braid scissors, sun glasses, also on the sling i have attached pliers, flash light, measuring tape, and second set of smaller clamp on pliers. it's really the best setup had for fishing. it frees up my pants pockets for cell phone, cigarettes and back pocket for trash (cig buts and used up lures always go home with me and end up in trash ) EDIT TO ADD: oh yea, and it gives me freedom to have my hoodlom / gator pacifier in my front pants pocket too
  14. those poor poor snakeheads... now that i think about it the guys i saw in my canal where there on a weekend in a boat and i bet they were participating... explains why there are no more snakeheads in my canal
  15. oh man when i fish jigs it happens on almost every cast that it stops feeling like a jig or there is much less resistance... i guess i'm missing a lot of bites ha?
  16. and you would be doing mandatory 25-to-life under FL law (look up "use a gun and you're done" laws). it's something i though about for a VERY long time before i started to pack heat, and still to this day, having carried for 7 years now, i think about it very often. gun to defend life or limb ONLY. property can be replaced and is insured.
  17. it would come with me, always, and no, i would not use it to defend property. the headache that would come with firing at thieves that were not threatening my life would simply not be worth it and could probably land me in jail for a very long time here in FL... now in TX i hear you can shoot to defend property
  18. Well since i read they catch big bass i started fishing them few weeks ago... since then i spend $70 on jigs in Bass Pro, which I promptly gave to my brother after getting my first batch of Siebert Outdoors jigs and realizing they are superior in construction. i've since lost 3 or 4 of my nice jigs by hangups on rocks and wood... few days ago i snagged on a HUGE log in the canal, having 50 lbs braid on i pulled slowly and brought what looked like 100 lbs of wood from 6-7 feet deep water and then the line broke. that's frustrating. also i'm not having much luck so far, it's super slow in FL now and i don't know if i should blame my super noob jig skills or the nasty heat on the fact that i'm not catching squat. so yea, i'm struggling bad!
  19. exactly. since my last android phone took a poop i enabled google+ pictures sync, since i also lost 500+ pics of my little kids like that, but never again. every pic i take now get's uploaded when the phone is charging...
  20. thanks i actually started in my pool, at night with a light on, so I could see exactly how the jig behaves in response to my twitching and pulling of the rod so far i've been jigging in canals in S. FL. exclusively.
  21. several times now i've seen people fishing for them along the small canal behind my house (I can tell they're going for snakeheads because of the top water fast moving rubber toads they're using) and even few guys on a boat. ever since them my canal appears to have 1/10 of the snakeheads it had 6 months ago i'm guessing they're killing them
  22. i have both and wish i got 2 chronarchs instead for extra $40...
  23. Few weeks ago I was walking along a canal behind a movie theater with LgMouthGambler, and I found a $20 bill it made up for getting skunked that day...
