Good topic especially for newer guys like myself. My carbonlite and pro qualifier rods are both "medium-heavy, fast" but there's a significant difference in their stiffness and actions. I would be really leary about ordering rods online without having actually felt them first. It was a little surprising how inconsistent this standard could actually be between rods.

Yeah I'll eventually put the pro qualifier on another rod better suited. The 6'6" mh it came with is much stiffer than the 7' carbon light. But for $69 for the combo it was worth it for just the reel. I'll have to adjust setting the hook softer and to the side sweep in guessing.

Ok so I'm new to fishing and the site. Started about a month ago with my buddy's stuff and was hooked. Have been going a little nuts lately lol and now I have 3 setups thanks to BPS and black Friday sale. I think these should do me for a while and was wondering what you guys thoughts are. I'm thinking: Quantum Smoke spinner(5.4)/Smoke 6'6" medium-fast: my finesse soft plastic rig. Quantum KVD PT baitcast (7.0)/ BPS Carbonlite 7' medium heavy fast: crank/spinner? BPS Pro Qualifier combo (6.4)/ 6'6" medium heavy fast: jigs and ?

Me and a buddy decided to hit the lake today. Got up to Cheatham Annex in Williamsburg about 11:30 or so. They have a couple small lakes there on base and the MWR will rent you Jon boats and a trolling motor. This was only the second time fishing with my own stuff and it turned out to be a great day. Started with wacky rig Senko's for a while with no luck. Decided to switch to the only hard lure I have for the hell of it. It's a white and red fish with three hooks on it, I think its for striper, its pretty big. Seemed to work though since I caught all three with it!

Hey everyone, new guy to fishing here. Been reading the site for a while now while I was fishing with my buddies stuff. I finally got my own first setup and got it for finesse soft plastics. Seems to be my favorite so far. Picked up a Quantum Smoke spinner and 6'6" M Smoke rod plus a BPS tackle backpack and boxes and an assortment of hooks/soft plastics. Got some for flick shake and wacky rig. Goin fishing this morning and I can't wait.
