  1. Gonna make a TW order, and looking to grab some Keitech Swing Impact Fat to try out this season. Anyone use these as a swim jig trailers? How would the 4.8 or 3.8 do as swim jig trailers?
  2. Just picked up a *** *** 7'3 Medium/Fast casting rod. Impressive rod! Using this rod for my lighter trigs/jigs/swim jigs and maybe even squarebills/lipless crank/jerkbaits. Planning on picking up a reel this weekend to pair it up with. The 2 reels i'm looking into is the Abu Garcia Revo STX gen3 and Lews Tournament Pro. The price on both reels are in my budget. However, i am open to suggestions as well, and just wanted to see what reel and gear ratio ya would pair up with this rod?
  3. Thanks for the info everyone. Much appreciated! I'll give the 6:4:1 a try.
  4. With owning and fishing only 7:1gear ratio bait casters, will i notice a big difference in using a 6:4:1 gear ratio? Is a 6:4:1 gear ratio suitable to use for trig/jigs/swimjigs/worms and even pitching? I would prefer 7:1, but the reel i am getting is only available in 6:4:1 for LH.
  5. Im thinking about split grip, but thanks for the info. I think the 744 might be the one. I just got a Powell Endurance 723 last month, and although its listed as a MH/XF, feels more like MH/F to me. So the Dobyns Champion Extreme 744 would probably best. However, maybe i might trade the Endurance in for the new Cumara 7'2 MH/F instead, and also get the Dobyns 744 to complete my arsenal.
  6. Kickerfish1...i'm from the midwest, minnesota to be exact, so most of the lakes i fish are vegetated. I was debating on the Champion Extreme or the Cumara (7'2 MH/XF), but i heard so many good things about the Champion Extreme, so decided i'm gonna go with Dobyns. I have a Core 51mg7 that i would like to pair it up with, and plan to pick up another reel later this spring that i could match it with too. However, i never held a Dobyns, so i'm not too sure on how they feel, and if the 744 would be to stout or not. But looking at the lure weight, thats the one i been eyeing. So i'm just hoping the info i get on here would save me the time from buying and having to send the rod back to swap.
  7. Good info! I am also looking into buying a Dobyns Champion Extreme here in the next week. Been debating on either the 703 n 704 or 743 n 744. I understand that one rod doesn't cut out to do everything, but i am looking for this rod to be my main go-to rod, whether if i'm fishing from boat, canoe, or shore. I also plan to throw 1/4-1/2 oz jigs and trigs with this rod. So from reading some of the posts, i'm thinking the 744 would be the most versatile and be the one? There's no stores where i am that carries Dobyns, so any more info would help greatly help before i purchase.
  8. I ordered a Powell Endurance from BTD last week also. The tracking number shows that it should be here on Thursday. This is my first time ordering from them, and the process and shipping does take longer than TW. Do they ship the rods in a hard tube???
  9. Crappiebasser...thanks for the info. I recently ordered a Powell Endurance 723 MH/XF, but the lure weight is only 1/4-3/4oz. I was hoping for it to be my jig rod, and planning to get the Cumara MH/F for t-rig and lighter jigs. However, the MH/F Cumara lure weight is 1/4-3/4 oz, same as the Endurance MH/XF. Would u suggest i should just get the MH/XF Cumara (lure wt. 1/4-1 oz) to be my jigs/football jigs rod and keep my Powell Endruance MH/XF for trigs and ligther jigs?
  10. kickerfish1..thanks for the response. i am looking for more of an all around rod. For t-rigs and swimjigs, i throw 1/4 to 3/8 oz, and for jigs(pitching/football), i usually do about 3/8-3/4oz depending on the season/cover. How does the Cumara MH/XF compares to the Powell Endurance MH/XF? I hear Shimano has a softer tip, but for what i plan to use it for, i just want to make sure it's not over powering the rod.
  11. Which one would ya prefer for jigs and t-rigs or overall? I know the MH/F lure wt at 1/4-3/4 oz and the MH/XF lure wt at 1/4-1oz. Have anyone tried them? Does the MH/XF feel more like a Heavy? Because i know some Heavy/F in some brands lure wts from 1/4-1oz.
  12. smalljaw67 - thnx for the response and info. i've held the vendetta and the veritas (the old and new models), but have never fished with them. from just holding and playing around with them in the stores, IMO, the Villain feels a lot nicer. Again, i have not fished with either rods. This is my first Abu rod and my first 7'6 rod, all my other rods are Shimano (crucials and cumaras), and my biggest rod i own is a 7'4 Cumara H/F. Just wanted to see if it's versatile for other techniques (jigs/flipping/worms) as well, how's the sensitivity, and if anyone owned or fished with it before. i live in Minnesota, so it'll be awhile until i can hit the waters with it.
  13. I found one in the clearance rack at my local Dicks Sporting Goods store a few weeks ago, and my wife went back to buy it for me for V-day. It's definitely a light, sturdy, and great looking rod! i compared it with my Shimano Cumara 7'4 heavy, and it's feels just as light, if not lighter, but the action feels the same. I saw a vid of Mike Iaconelli saying that he uses the 7'6 Villain mainly for frogs/swimbaits/carolina rig. Have anyone try using it for jigs/worms? And has anyone used this size? Most reviews i've seen are from those who have the 7'1 MH/F. Just wanted some thoughts.
